About Jennifer Mandler

Born and raised in Bar Harbor, I currently live in New Jersey with my husband and two kids. We spend several weeks a year at the house, and enjoy beachcombing, hiking and biking in Acadia National Park.

Jennifer Mandler purchased this house in 1995

Why Jennifer Mandler chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

This beautiful property has been in my family for generations. The house was custom-built in 1995.

What makes this house unique

I love waking up in the morning and seeing the amazing water views from my bedroom. We love to take a picnic to the cove or walk to the Nature Conservancy preserve next door. It is really our little paradise.

Stunning water views & private cove near Acadia National Park
average rating of 5.0 based on 13 reviews
Arlington, VA

This was one of the most well-appointed and well-equipped homes our family has ever rented in the 15 years we have been using vacation rentals. The view was gorgeous, and we enjoyed sunsets and fireworks over Western Bay each night of our stay. The trails down to the cove and over to the nature preserve were beautiful. It was within easy driving distance of everything we wanted to do on the island and off. The owner was very easy to work with, and we will definitely stay again.

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

First, I must agree with other reviews that say the pictures do not fully capture the beauty of this location and this house, as well as the other positive comments made. The views, the sunsets, and the house are all amazing. The weather was lovely...warm during the day, cool nights with windows open. The house is located close to all the things we wanted to do while in the area, it is an easy drive to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor (about 15 minutes). We were able to hike and kayak in various locations in Acadia, see the beautiful sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, and visit the great town of Bar Harbor and its wonderful restaurants each day. The house is very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked, there wasn't a thing we needed...and it is stocked with quality dishes and other kitchen supplies. The owner supplies all linens and towels, and the quality of both are very nice. The views were spectacular from the deck. We made sure we were back to the house each night for the beautiful sunsets, there wasn't any place we wanted to be other than the chairs on that deck. We had a wonderful trip to the area, it was a perfect vacation!

This house is very special set above the treetops overlooking the bay. The view is outstanding. Very peaceful and quiet, not another house in view. The deck was the best . Inside every room were windows with views and comfortable furniture. Plenty of room for 8 people and two dogs. A path led to a cove that was like walking through a magical forest. So much to do in the surrounding area but hard to leave the house because of the beauty of where it was located and the comfort and peace the house offered.

Absolutely amazing!

  • 5 of 5

First off, I just have to say that the pictures do not do this house, or the view, justice! I took that advice from another reviewer and I am in complete agreement! The house is situated on a private lot-can't see another house!-atop a hill/mountain with a fabulous view of the water and the woods. The deck was by far my favorite part. The house was immaculate, comfortable and spacious enough for 8 of us. It is far enough from the busy touristy town/national park that you literally feel like you're in your own world out there, but only about 10 minutes to get yo anywhere you need to go on the island. The weather was perfect-warm during the day, cool at night. I would recommend this house and this vacation 20 times over...couldn't have been better!

Just a side note if you do end up renting, do NOT go to Brandon and Laura's Cafe in SW harbor. The waitstaff were incredibly rude, Like they couldn't be bothered with us. It was a rotten experience. However Cafe 2 is right down the road an the food is amazing and the people are friendly!

Already planning on going back again! Great time!

A Week to Remember

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start? Treetops is a place to remember. It's location is extremely accessible to the small wonderful towns in the surrounding area. But the view, which is seen from almost every room in the house, would make any traveler want to stay indefinitely. The owners were the absolute best to work with through the entire process. They made us feel comfortable traveling 100s of miles away with our family. No detail was left undone. The kitchen fully stocked with coffee maker, toaster, microwave, every utensil necessary; even glad lock zip bags were there which we used to keep our seashells. We had extra linens, games, great books and magazines filled the house, along with great information on the adventures one could take while visiting. It was an absolute dream for my family as well as myself. The pictures online do not do justice of Treetop, you have to see it for yourself to appreciate it's beauty and all the little things the owners have successfully remembered to make it feel like home. There is no doubt that we will be visiting Maine again, and for that brief but pleasure moment, we'll make Treetop our temporary home. Thanks for the memories : )

The Essence of Maine

  • 5 of 5

"Treetops" is a great house, spacious and comfortable with the best equipped kitchen we've ever seen in a vacation rental. Tree top views of the bay and islands are spectacular from the living room, dining room, deck and bedrooms. A private trail to a secluded cove is a true Acadia experience.

From the house deck we watched Eagles, Osprey and Deer to the accompaniment of Loons.

Located on the less traveled side of Mount Desert Island, the house is still close to the Park, Southwest Harbor and the best home made pies at Town Hill Market.

We hope to visit Treetops again.
