About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

This Gold Coast Jewel has been completely renovated and divided into two separate living quarters (2bd/2ba upstairs; 2bd/1ba downstairs). Downstairs currently rented long term. Our renovated home provides shellstone counters and floors, (bamboo floors upstairs), A/C, spacious master bedrooms, both upstairs and down, with king-size beds in both.

The view of Diamond Head from the large second floor patio is dramatic. Relax in the yard on a love seat swing while you enjoy the tradewinds and lush gardens. Perfectly situated, 1/2 block from the ocean, a walk of 5 minutes will take you to Diamond Head/Waikiki Beaches which stretch for miles. A walk of just a few more minutes takes you to the heart of Waikiki where the entertainment/amenities are endless.

The yard is as beautiful and updated as the home. The sizable yard has been landscaped with wonderful, colorful flowers, tropical fruit and palm trees. If you are interested in a relaxing, romantic day or evening, you can barbeque on your patio or simply enjoy the love seat swing. For those who prefer more energetic activities, you can take a leisurely bike ride through the adjacent Kapiolani park or along the ocean or hike Diamond Head to the panoramic lookout and see the backyard from the summit.

This wonderful home, its' setting and location, simply cannot be beat! That is why it is called 'The Gold Coast'. So, if you are up for truly 'the best, most comfortable and luxurious vacation', simply call for additional information and to make a reservation. Why settle for less?

About Harvey Migdal

My wife Kathy was born in Hawaii and I lived there from 1982 to 1994. We moved to Phoenix for a business opportunity but returned often to enjoy Paradise, Hawaiian style.

Harvey Migdal purchased this house in 2002

Why Harvey Migdal chose Honolulu

As we had always loved this area, we jumped at the opportunity to buy our Coconut Ave. home in 2002. In our opinion the location is absolutely unbeatable; a short walk to beaches and the wonderful Kapiolani Park and unusually isolated for being so close to the happenings in Waikiki. Being so conveniently located, a car isn't necessary; just an added convenience.

What makes this house unique

As a family, we frequently visit. As soon as we arrive, our children and guests are anxious to change into swimwear and walk to one of the best beaches for a bit of sunshine and water activities. The trades blow the fresh, clean air; the sound of the surf is captivating. The hike up Diamond Head and the regular activities at Kapiolani Park keeps you active and holds your interest each and every day. The Park has an incredible menu of weekend activities. It's always a sad day when we depart and count the days until we can return. There is a reason why people call Hawaii 'paradise'. Our home and its' location would best sum it up!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Following is a letter sent to me by a recent guest, who spent the Christmas/New Year Holidays in our place. To preserve his privacy, he did not want to enter his e-mail address, so I have submitted his letter under owner comments. This is only one of many positive comments we have received about our place, but have not spent the time, until now, in pursuing pleased visitors to send a recommendation letter to this adjunct of our vrbo web site.January 15th, 2005Dear Harvey,I wish to express my appreciation for giving me, my wife, & mother-in-law the opportunity to stay at your lovely house. Your care and appreciation for every detail of the house was a great pleasure for all 3 of us. Waking up in the morning, taking a peak at Diamond Head from our bedroom while watching the morning news on TV, and following step out in the garden to enjoy a long breakfast in the wonderfully decorated garden with birds singing was a fantastic experience, neither of us had ever dreamt of. All felt so serene, quiet, and far away from the busy city life, yet we were only a 15 minute stroll away from exciting Waikiki, which made the whole experience that much greater. The days we wanted a day away from Waikiki we often headed east for Kahala Mall or the luxurious Kahala Mandarin Hotel, which both were only 15 minutes away on one of the bikes or 7 minutes by car. It was all, almost too good to be true!I would like to compliment you, Harvey, for being a very fair, comfortable, and easy going person to work with. We appreciate your ‘aloha spirit’.Sincerely,Martin Anderson

Excellent accomodations

  • 5 of 5

My husband, granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, comfortable apartment. We spent a week here exploring all Oahu had to offer. We had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We did have a rental car that we used daily so the garage was a big plus. We spent our time in residence on the deck enjoying the trade winds and beautifully landscaped back yard. We walked to Waikiki, which took under an hour, depending on your destination. Parking anywhere in Waikiki is difficult. I advise you leave early for any activity, even driving to the north shore. But it's all worth it when you explore this beautiful place. I will say we didn't really have an ocean view. It is 1/2 block away but with all the tropical foliage, we couldn't see it. It was a private oasis in a very busy city. Harvey stayed in touch with us and was very helpful from my first inquiry to checkout. We highly recommend this apartment.

Owner's Response: Rebecca: Thank you so much for your kind remarks. We try to give our guests whatever help we can to insure that their stay is most enjoyable. In this case it was easy as we have a daughter not much older than your granddaughter. Our suggestions about places to go were therefore from our personal experience. We also find the walk along the ocean into Waikiki, about a mile distant, to be quite enjoyable and relaxing. The alternative of hasteling with traffic and limited parking is by no means as appealing. A close second is sitting on the porch on the swing and taking in the lush landscaping as the palms rustle in the wind. Our favorite is the triangle palms (neodypsis) which dot the yard. They are quite prolific and we have replanted all the offspring we can to give the yard an even greater feeling of privacy. Mahalo again for your kind remarks. We look forward to your next visit. Harvey and Kathy Migdal

Perfect, all the way around

  • 5 of 5

Could not have been more perfect accommodations for our stay on Oahu. All the pre-trip arrangements were easily accomplished and the directions on how to make use of the home were detailed and most helpful. Owner was easily accessible for a question here and there. The location is tremendous with easy walks to the beach and walks/runs on Diamond Head Road. Having a garage was great to ease any parking issues. Spent many early morning and evening hours on the balcony. So nice to have laundry facilities. Will be heading to Oahu again and this will clearly be my first choice.

Owner's Response: Charles: Thank you for your generous review. We have been fortunate to have rented to guests who, by and large, take care of our home in Hawaii as they would their own. Your case was no exception. That provides the continuing incentive for us to maintain the house in the condition which we would like to see if we were the guests instead of owners. We agree wholeheartedly that the location is ideal. One can choose not to use a car for days with no loss at all, as it is walking distance to most anything you may want or need, including restaurants galore in Waikiki, exercise in Kapiolani Park or the beach and pleasant walks along the ocean. We also love enjoying the patio/deck with a cup of coffee or glass of wine, looking up at the palm trees or listening to the ocean, relaxing on the swing or a lounge chair. Mahalo again for your kind remarks. Kathy and I look forward to your next stay.

Great Property and Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 4 weeks in the lovely house on Coconut Ave in October 2014. We had a most enjoyable stay and really loved the house for its functionality and location. Quiet and yet connected to so much within walking distance. We have used VRBO’s in the past but like others we had questions about the accommodations – is in a good location, will it meet our needs, is it up to date, will it be clean, in a good neighbourhood, well managed, etc. Based on our stay and having read the numerous 5 star ratings on the accommodation I can confirm from our perspective the house is a wonderful place to stay. The house is exactly as described in VRBO information, we agree with all the positive comments by other guests and Harvey has been exceptional to deal with. If I were to be in Oahu I would definitely want to rent the house again. A definite 5 star rating on all fronts.

Owner's Response: Gary and Marie: Thank you so much for the kind remarks. Your positive thoughts about the Coconut Ave. location mirrored our own when deciding to buy the house many years ago. We equally believed that its proximity to Waikiki while being a short distance away gave it the ideal location. A fifteen minute walk to Waikiki, five minutes to San Souci beach at the New Otani Hotel, a few minutes further to the Aquarium and Zoo all of which are adjacent to the wonderful Kapiolani Park. Thank you also for your feelings that our VRBO representations are not merely an owner's conceit . We try very hard to describe the best the home has to offer while insuring that our descriptions are wholly accurate. Thank you for acknowledging the success of those efforts. Kathy and I are planning on spending almost two weeks at the house beginning next week. As always, much of that time will be spent insuring that the things which made this trip enjoyable will remain in a condition to insure that your next trip will be equally so. We look forward to that. Mahalo again, Harvey and Kathy

Beyond Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, my sister, my son and I just spent two weeks at this vacation rental . It had that undefinable quality of being luxurious and still allowing us to feel at home,at ease and comfortable in every way. The rooms are spotless, spacious, light, airy, and tastefully furnished with the Island touch. We did a lot of cooking and entertaining (we have family in Waikiki) and everything we needed was right there from convenient kitchen, to dining room, to furnished balcony big enough for a family gathering. Every window looks out on tropical greenery. The huge garden is a paradise with a well kept lawn and fantastic Hawaiian plants and trees. The house comes fully equipped with every appliance and convenience you can imagine. The towels, linens, pillows, and beds were of the highest quality. You are in walking distance of a great beach and a beautiful park. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly and well kept. Waikiki is on the other side of the park--far enough away so that you feel you are a local and close enough to fulfill the needs of a tourist. We used the bikes that were available whenever we were too lazy to walk.

We felt pampered . Worth every single penny we paid! Highly recommended without reservation.

Owner's Response: Your Review could not have been more rewarding for us. Over the course of renting our place to guests, perhaps, even more particularly to foreign visitors, we often have warm personal interaction. That has absolutely been the case in our dealings with you. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet you while you were in Honolulu, but did have the opportunity to meet your son and daughter-in-law (local residents), during our last trip to Coconut Ave., both delightful. And the joy of their first child delivered just prior to your arrival, must have been wonderful. We will do our utmost to insure that your next visit will be as satisfying as this one apparently was. In that regard, rest assured that we are always replacing, renewing and replenishing all of the items which helped make your stay so special. Mahalo Nui Loa, Harvey and Kathy Migdal

Fantastic holiday!

  • 5 of 5

I just wanted to write a review to assure anyone who may be having the same hesitations I did when booking a home through VRBO. We have travelled to Hawaii many times but this was the first year I considered staying in a house instead of a hotel. So glad that we did! Communicating with the owner, Harvey, was easy and he was so very helpful. He kept me updated with the weather in Oahu, as unfortunately, the date of our arrival coincided with the big tropical storm. All I saw in the news was people loading up their grocery carts with bottled water and preparing for the storm. Harvey had lessened my worry considerably by arranging to have water and some food to be at the house when we arrived. I had offered to pay for all the groceries but he didn't accept it, saying that he would want such considerations if he were traveling. His kindness and generosity were greatly appreciated.

The house is very well-maintained, both inside and out and the owners have really put a great deal of effort in thinking about vacationers' needs and wants. It feels like a well-loved "home" and not a rental until that has seen too many years. The décor is well thought out with art work that suits the environment and we enjoyed the beautifully landscaped backyard. As for the location of the house, we felt it was close enough to the liveliness of Waikiki, yet far enough to experience the peacefulness of Hawaii. We did use our rental car daily but it only takes at most 15 minutes to walk to the busy part of Waikiki. We went out for lunches and dinners, but it was nice to have a full kitchen to make breakfasts. It is a well-stocked kitchen for those who do want to prepare meals at the house. My child enjoyed having the boogie boards to use and there was a surf board there as well. We bought beach mats but discovered the house already had some. We had our own insulated cooler bags but I noticed there were coolers at the house. I rented beach chairs/umbrella on the beach but the house has beach chairs and an umbrella as well. Like I said, it has everything you really need for a vacation. Being used to hotels, I hadn't realized how nice it is to have a washer and dryer during a holiday; they looked very new as well.

I thoroughly enjoying having the space of a house, a clean and organized kitchen, air conditioning and laundry facilities, all in a great location! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: Jodie: Thank you so much for your most thoughtful comments. It is always so fulfilling to feel that the effort we spend trying to anticipate our guests needs are both productive and appreciated. With your particular stay, we were very concerned that your late arrival on the first day of what was anticipated to be a large storm might start your trip to Paradise on a challenging note. As we have lived in Honolulu, we fully appreciate that these occasional larger storms encourage locals to stock their pantries with the necessities, sometimes looking, in the press, like there is a run on the markets. I'm glad we were able to take the precaution of at least minimally stocking our pantry for your arrival. Fortunately, the storm(s) were less severe than might have been and it sounds like your vacation was all you hoped it would be. We love staying at our home on Coconut Ave. and our greatest reward is in knowing that our guests feel the same. Mahalo Nui Loa, Harvey and Kathy Migdal

Tropical Diamond Head Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Harvey's house and we hope to be back again. It is an awesome vacation rental: clean, safe, well stocked, spacious, and it has beautiful tropical landscaping. It was great to have garage parking for one car and a washer dryer. The outdoor swings are relaxing and a great place to have an evening drink or read. Harvey is also very accessible though email and makes the reservations process easy. You can easily walk to great surf spots, beautiful sandy beaches, around Diamond Head or into Waikiki. It was convenient to have a boogie boards and beach chairs and beach towels at house too.

Owner's Response: Although I won't mention you by name, thank you very much for your most positive review. My wife Kathy and I spend a good deal of effort to insure that guests have the most enjoyable stay possible. We are always so pleased when our guests come away feeling that we have been successful in that undertaking. Even more so with returning guests. We do our best to provide for every reasonable need. In that regard, in addition to boogie boards and beach chairs there is one surf board and some bicycles. Although not professional grade they do get us around Diamond Head.
