My wife Kathy was born in Hawaii and I lived there from 1982 to 1994. We moved to Phoenix for a business opportunity but returned often to enjoy Paradise, Hawaiian style.
Harvey Migdal purchased this house in 2002
As we had always loved this area, we jumped at the opportunity to buy our Coconut Ave. home in 2002. In our opinion the location is absolutely unbeatable; a short walk to beaches and the wonderful Kapiolani Park and unusually isolated for being so close to the happenings in Waikiki. Being so conveniently located, a car isn't necessary; just an added convenience.
As a family, we frequently visit. As soon as we arrive, our children and guests are anxious to change into swimwear and walk to one of the best beaches for a bit of sunshine and water activities. The trades blow the fresh, clean air; the sound of the surf is captivating. The hike up Diamond Head and the regular activities at Kapiolani Park keeps you active and holds your interest each and every day. The Park has an incredible menu of weekend activities. It's always a sad day when we depart and count the days until we can return. There is a reason why people call Hawaii 'paradise'. Our home and its' location would best sum it up!
Following is a letter sent to me by a recent guest, who spent the Christmas/New Year Holidays in our place. To preserve his privacy, he did not want to enter his e-mail address, so I have submitted his letter under owner comments. This is only one of many positive comments we have received about our place, but have not spent the time, until now, in pursuing pleased visitors to send a recommendation letter to this adjunct of our vrbo web site.January 15th, 2005Dear Harvey,I wish to express my appreciation for giving me, my wife, & mother-in-law the opportunity to stay at your lovely house. Your care and appreciation for every detail of the house was a great pleasure for all 3 of us. Waking up in the morning, taking a peak at Diamond Head from our bedroom while watching the morning news on TV, and following step out in the garden to enjoy a long breakfast in the wonderfully decorated garden with birds singing was a fantastic experience, neither of us had ever dreamt of. All felt so serene, quiet, and far away from the busy city life, yet we were only a 15 minute stroll away from exciting Waikiki, which made the whole experience that much greater. The days we wanted a day away from Waikiki we often headed east for Kahala Mall or the luxurious Kahala Mandarin Hotel, which both were only 15 minutes away on one of the bikes or 7 minutes by car. It was all, almost too good to be true!I would like to compliment you, Harvey, for being a very fair, comfortable, and easy going person to work with. We appreciate your ‘aloha spirit’.Sincerely,Martin Anderson
My husband, granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, comfortable apartment. We spent a week here exploring all Oahu had to offer. We had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We did have a rental car that we used daily so the garage was a big plus. We spent our time in residence on the deck enjoying the trade winds and beautifully landscaped back yard. We walked to Waikiki, which took under an hour, depending on your destination. Parking anywhere in Waikiki is difficult. I advise you leave early for any activity, even driving to the north shore. But it's all worth it when you explore this beautiful place. I will say we didn't really have an ocean view. It is 1/2 block away but with all the tropical foliage, we couldn't see it. It was a private oasis in a very busy city. Harvey stayed in touch with us and was very helpful from my first inquiry to checkout. We highly recommend this apartment.
Could not have been more perfect accommodations for our stay on Oahu. All the pre-trip arrangements were easily accomplished and the directions on how to make use of the home were detailed and most helpful. Owner was easily accessible for a question here and there. The location is tremendous with easy walks to the beach and walks/runs on Diamond Head Road. Having a garage was great to ease any parking issues. Spent many early morning and evening hours on the balcony. So nice to have laundry facilities. Will be heading to Oahu again and this will clearly be my first choice.
My wife and I spent 4 weeks in the lovely house on Coconut Ave in October 2014. We had a most enjoyable stay and really loved the house for its functionality and location. Quiet and yet connected to so much within walking distance. We have used VRBO’s in the past but like others we had questions about the accommodations – is in a good location, will it meet our needs, is it up to date, will it be clean, in a good neighbourhood, well managed, etc. Based on our stay and having read the numerous 5 star ratings on the accommodation I can confirm from our perspective the house is a wonderful place to stay. The house is exactly as described in VRBO information, we agree with all the positive comments by other guests and Harvey has been exceptional to deal with. If I were to be in Oahu I would definitely want to rent the house again. A definite 5 star rating on all fronts.
My husband, my sister, my son and I just spent two weeks at this vacation rental . It had that undefinable quality of being luxurious and still allowing us to feel at home,at ease and comfortable in every way. The rooms are spotless, spacious, light, airy, and tastefully furnished with the Island touch. We did a lot of cooking and entertaining (we have family in Waikiki) and everything we needed was right there from convenient kitchen, to dining room, to furnished balcony big enough for a family gathering. Every window looks out on tropical greenery. The huge garden is a paradise with a well kept lawn and fantastic Hawaiian plants and trees. The house comes fully equipped with every appliance and convenience you can imagine. The towels, linens, pillows, and beds were of the highest quality. You are in walking distance of a great beach and a beautiful park. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly and well kept. Waikiki is on the other side of the park--far enough away so that you feel you are a local and close enough to fulfill the needs of a tourist. We used the bikes that were available whenever we were too lazy to walk.
We felt pampered . Worth every single penny we paid! Highly recommended without reservation.
I just wanted to write a review to assure anyone who may be having the same hesitations I did when booking a home through VRBO. We have travelled to Hawaii many times but this was the first year I considered staying in a house instead of a hotel. So glad that we did! Communicating with the owner, Harvey, was easy and he was so very helpful. He kept me updated with the weather in Oahu, as unfortunately, the date of our arrival coincided with the big tropical storm. All I saw in the news was people loading up their grocery carts with bottled water and preparing for the storm. Harvey had lessened my worry considerably by arranging to have water and some food to be at the house when we arrived. I had offered to pay for all the groceries but he didn't accept it, saying that he would want such considerations if he were traveling. His kindness and generosity were greatly appreciated.
The house is very well-maintained, both inside and out and the owners have really put a great deal of effort in thinking about vacationers' needs and wants. It feels like a well-loved "home" and not a rental until that has seen too many years. The décor is well thought out with art work that suits the environment and we enjoyed the beautifully landscaped backyard. As for the location of the house, we felt it was close enough to the liveliness of Waikiki, yet far enough to experience the peacefulness of Hawaii. We did use our rental car daily but it only takes at most 15 minutes to walk to the busy part of Waikiki. We went out for lunches and dinners, but it was nice to have a full kitchen to make breakfasts. It is a well-stocked kitchen for those who do want to prepare meals at the house. My child enjoyed having the boogie boards to use and there was a surf board there as well. We bought beach mats but discovered the house already had some. We had our own insulated cooler bags but I noticed there were coolers at the house. I rented beach chairs/umbrella on the beach but the house has beach chairs and an umbrella as well. Like I said, it has everything you really need for a vacation. Being used to hotels, I hadn't realized how nice it is to have a washer and dryer during a holiday; they looked very new as well.
I thoroughly enjoying having the space of a house, a clean and organized kitchen, air conditioning and laundry facilities, all in a great location! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
This was our second stay at Harvey's house and we hope to be back again. It is an awesome vacation rental: clean, safe, well stocked, spacious, and it has beautiful tropical landscaping. It was great to have garage parking for one car and a washer dryer. The outdoor swings are relaxing and a great place to have an evening drink or read. Harvey is also very accessible though email and makes the reservations process easy. You can easily walk to great surf spots, beautiful sandy beaches, around Diamond Head or into Waikiki. It was convenient to have a boogie boards and beach chairs and beach towels at house too.
Aquarium, Zoo, First Run Movies on the Beach, Hula Shows, Huge Kapiolani Park is one block away, where many of the above activities may be enjoyed.
