We bought this home in September 2013. The home has undergone a complete renovation both inside and out. We retained many of the homes original features including stairway, hard wood floors on 2nd floor and front farmer's porch. We have modernized the interior with new cherry kitchen cabinets and stainless steel appliances, new electrical, plumbing, and heating with on demand hot water, two new bathrooms and stackable washer and dryer. This home offers a large back yard for enjoying the evening campfire and cook out.
Eric Turner purchased this house in 2013
We have watched this home for many years in its declining state and decided now is the time to rescue this home and restore it to it's original splendor. We hope you enjoy as much we do.

Superior intown location. Park your car and enjoy the free bus service around the island or walk to town for dinner and an ice cream.
This home has a real coastal feel.
The house was clean and had all of the things we needed to have an enjoyable weekend! We sat around the firepit one night as well as the front porch to watch the world go by. The bedrooms were comfortable but a bit tight and could use a bit more space for clothes storage . We really enjoyed being on that side of the island being away from most of the crowds, but close enough to get to the action in a short drive. We even made it for the 6:15 sunrise on Cadillac Mountain! Eric easy great and always got back to us in a few hours, everything was just as we expected. I would recommend this property for a weekend rental to friends. Dinner at Thurstons and breakfast at Sips were highlights of our trip!
My wife and I stayed a week in Eric's beautiful home. We mostly ate in so we really appreciated the well stocked kitchen. Every pan and utensil we wanted was right there. We liked having the washer/dryer, as well as the dishwasher. They made it just like home. The house is very well insulated, so even though you are on the main street, the traffic noise is minimal. Being right near the center of town, we were convenient to everything, and of course right next to Acadia so we could enjoy that every day. We liked using the porch with the rocking chairs. Eric has quiet ceiling fans throughout the house, and A/C, so we were comfortably cool even on the hot days. We hope to go back again next year.
Our family of 6 had a wonderful week at Quietside Retreat.
The house was absolutely immaculate! There was plenty of room for all of us. Comfy bedding and towels were all provided. It was nice to be able to do a few loads of laundry while on vacation so we didn't get home with piles of dirty clothes. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed to grocery shop and cook at the house. We used the grill almost every night!
We enjoyed the location. Close to Acadia and all of the areas you want to see there, but definitely quieter than Bar Harbor. Cute little downtown was just a short walk away.
Eric was very easy to book and communicate with.
I would recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in Southwest Harbor!
My family of four stayed in this lovely cottage for 5 nights in June. The home has been nicely renovated, is very clean, with new appliances, nice seating and comfortable beds. As we were doing a lot of hiking, we used the included washer & dryer every day! Located only about a 5 minute walk to downtown Southwest Harbor, the cottage is close enough to leave your car behind and walk to dinner or Sawyer's Market, a local small grocer. It is also two houses down from Maine State Kayaks, which provides sea kayak tours on the surrounding waters. We took an evening tour and enjoyed it very much.
Eric was easy to work with when booking his home, and called a few days prior to our arrival with the code to enter the house. He was also informative about restaurants in the area and other activities.
The only reason this property does not rate a "5" star is due to the traffic noise in the master bedroom, which faces the street. Eric has planted trees in the front yard that will help in years to come.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay on the Quietside of the Acadia!
The property was immaculately kept and very comfortable. A short walk to the shops and the water and very convenient drive to Acadia. Eric the owner was very helpful both before and during our stay. We'll definitely be back!
We had a great time during our stay at Quietside Retreat. The house is in a great location on the "quiet" side of MDI, in walking distance to Southwest Harbor and about 15-20 min from Cadillac Mountain and Bar Harbor. It was perfect size for 4 adults and two small children (3 yr old and 6 mo old) . The house and property are very well kept, and the work that the Turners have put into the home shows. My only complaint was that our stay was too short!
Quietside retreat is a five minute walk to the quaint village center of Southwest Harbor, a five minute drive to Acadia National Park and just a 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor. Hiking, nature, boating and relaxing surrounds Quietside Retreat. With many options for sightseeing tours, boat excursions or just relaxing and enjoying a good book on the covered porch, there is something for everyone in Southwest Harbor.
Acadia National Park includes 46,000 acres and has 24 mountain peaks. There are 57 miles of carriage roads and 130 miles of pristine hiking trails. Plenty of space to cycle, cross-country ski or snowshoe around mountains in a car free environment. Hiking the mountains of Acadia allows one to take in the spectacular ocean views, granite cliffs dropping into the ocean, and Somes Sound, the only fjord in North America.
