David is from New York, and been coming to the Cape since he was a child. Annie is English, and fell in love with the quaint charms, quiet sophistication, amazing seafood, and romantic walks and vistas of the Cape during our own family vacations. We talked for years about buying a place of our own here but weren't that serious - until we walked into this house and bought it the next week.
Annie and David Stern (Owners) purchased this house in 2012
First, the location - We have always thought Pleasant Bay to be the the best area of the Cape. While it is officially in Brewster, it is actually right between Chatham - the best main street, shops and restaurants on the Cape - and Orleans, with some of the best beaches and ice cream. Pleasant Bay itself, just 6/10 of a mile down the road, is a magnificent bay off the ocean with long beach walks and beautiful views. There are two golf courses within a mile of the house, and the shops of East Harwich are five minutes away.
Second, the house itself. It is bright, warm and happy from every direction. There are many rooms each with its own unique benefits - the enormously comfortable living room, the relaxing and sun-drenched sun room, the quiet study, the modern kitchen and breakfast room, the upstairs den where kids can watch TV on their own, the huge master bed and bath, the charming and comfortable upstairs bedrooms. And because the house is only 4 years old, all of this comes with modern convenience.
This is a home owned by people who love the Cape and love the house. You will find it equipped to be enjoyed and lived in as that is what we do, and Annie has meticulously decorated the house, mostly while David watched or carried things. We rent it to share something we love when we cannot use it ourselves, and hope that our guests feel the same.
I've been renting on the Cape on and off for the last 55 years. That's a lot of houses. This house is unquestionably the most comfortable, the most completely furnished, the most beautifully decorated and the one we would most like to return to.
The house looks exactly like the photos. You could fit 3 King beds into the master bedroom. There is a walk-in closet large enough for a season's clothes. The bathroom has a jet tub in addition to a large shower. The upper floor has, in addition to the 2 twin bedrooms and baths, a sitting area and TV. We used it as a snug sleeping area for our 4 year old grandchild.
There is enough space that people need not be on top of one another. Dining room, kitchen, study, family room, sun-room, deck and basement. You want to be alone? You can do that. You want to have a party for 2 dozen? There is sufficient tableware, cookware and glassware to do so.
The house is located in a corner of Brewster that is adjacent to West Harwich and Chatham. The bike trail has an entrance nearby. There are ponds, lakes, ocean beaches all within a short drive.
Our grandchildren played ping-pong in the basement and croquet in the back yard. They played whiffle-ball in front. They could ride their bikes in the driveway and on the quiet street.
I've enjoyed sunsets in Tahiti, over the Grand Canyon, and on the roof of the Del Coronado, but one of the most peaceful was on the deck of this house.
Go and enjoy.
We just returned from our week at this house and it was great! The house is so comfortable and spacious, and very well-maintained. The owners were so lovely and helpful each step of the way. They were so responsive to all of our questions and they were so well-organized about sharing/leaving information about the house. The street was nice and quiet enough for my boys to ride their bikes safely--and we made good use of the deck and backyard as well. I would highly recommend this house!
We have been renting on Cape Cod for 10 years, and this was by far the best house we have ever rented. Everything was so clean and meticulously maintained. The homeowners were exceptionally helpful and responsive to all our questions. We couldn't have asked for anything more!!
As a family of 7 from Scotland, UK covering 3 generations we were looking for a spacious house whose location would allow us to visit as much of the Cape as possible within our 2 week stay. This property proved to be the ideal house for us. The House itself was beautifully appointed with lots of room for all the family both in bedrooms and living accommodation plus ample outdoor facilities with a generous garden, deck and eating area. Within the house everything was spotlessly clean, fresh and fully equipped for family living. The décor throughout was beautiful and eye catching – a joy to live in.
The location in the lower Cape was excellent for travelling throughout the Cape with an easy drive to Provincetown in the outer Cape but sufficiently close to the mid Cape to reach Hyannis Port to allow sailing to the islands. Locally the beaches were no distance away ranging from the gentler waters around Pleasant Bay and Brewster to the Atlantic breakers of the startlingly beautiful Nauset Beach. As relative strangers to the Cape there was a need for guidance to experience the best of the surrounding area. This was more than satisfied by the information pack left in the house by the owners who took a great interest in ensuring we enjoyed our stay. Great advice on travel directions, best beaches and an excellent selection of eating places to suit all the family’s tastes.
We have fantastic memories of our holiday – Nauset Beach, sailing to Martha’s Vineyard, the splendid coastal wildlife areas, pleasant walks around Chatham Town itself and a real winner for us being the Fish Pier at Chatham Bars to watch the fish landed and sample the freshest sea food ever. In the evening we would enjoy gathering on the very private deck to enjoy a glass of wine and discuss the day’s events while our daughter and son in law produced an excellent barbeque. Happy days!
Our house is located in the Pleasant Bay area of Brewster, which is on the ocean side of the Cape nestled between Chatham (with its charming shops and wonderful restaurants) to the south, Orleans (with its amazing ocean beaches) to the north, and just 3 miles from the shops of East Harwich for the essentials like groceries, wine, and Starbucks.
Some of the things close by include Great Shopping Downtown, The Old Atwood House Museum, Chatham Seal Watch Tours, Chatham Railroad Museum, Ridgevale Beach, Chatham Windmill, Harding Beach, Kayak Pleasant Bay, Schoolhouse Pond, Deep Sea Fishing, Chatham Fish Pier, Chatham Lighthouse, Summer Baseball Games, Monomoy Island, Goose Pond.
