The Lake Almanor Basin is best known as a recreation paradise and the gateway to nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. It's where the Sierra Nevada range and the Cascade range meet.
Our home is located right near the Hamilton Branch inlet to Lake Almanor. This is at the North end of the East Shore, just down the road from the Country Club golf course on the peninsula, and the golf course at Bailey Creek. We are conveniently located near the intersection of A13 and Highway 147, just within minutes of the towns of Clear Creek and Westwood. Also close by is the main town of Chester with all your grocery and rental and shopping needs. Fly-in vacations are easy at the Rogers Field Airport.
We completed construction on our vacation home in the summer of 2008. It has approximately 1900 sq. ft. of living space, with views of Dyer Mountain from our Great Room.
We know that you will be very comfortable in our 'home away from home', whether you are coming just to relax, or to take part in all that Lake Almanor has to offer. For examples of the myriad of adventures to be had here, please see “activities” under Vacation Rental Features below.
About the owner: We live on the central coast of California. It's about a 7 hour drive away, with stops for the girls and our dog CoCo. My husband Joe works for a college and I work for an accountant. We have 2 girls, one in 7th grade and one in10th. They both swim competitively which keeps us all very busy. The girls love going to the lake. They have made great friends in the neighborhood that they sled with in the winter and ride bikes to the lake with in the summer. We all enjoy going out on our boat. Having the launch ramp only 1 mile away makes it convenient to get in and out of the water quickly. My husband and I, (but mostly Joe), have built 80% of this house ourselves. Joe's love for building has made this a true adventure. Sometimes through rain, snow and sleet, using all his vacation time and every other weekend for a year, Joe traveled to Lake Almanor to build our lake house. It has been a true labor of love. He has done such a great job, and we would now like to share it with others. If you bring your friends and family we're sure you won't be disappointed. There are so many great things to do here and you'll have a roomy, comfortable home to call your own during your stay. We're sure you'll make great memories here, as we have. Happy Vacationing! We fell in love with Lake Almanor in 2005, after visiting family that lived in the area. It's almost like being in Mayberry RFD, the people are so friendly and helpful, and there's almost no crime. Though we love living on the Central Coast we decided to build a second home in a small, 'four season' recreational area. We searched for this property for over a year. My husband Joe would drive up and scout around looking for the perfect place to build. We finally found what we were looking for with a view of the mountains and so close to the lake. The house was completed in the fall of 2008.
There are so many unique benefits that we enjoy while spending time at our property. Joe's brother designed the original plans for our house which we modified to accommodate our needs to entertain large groups of friends and family. I have enjoyed designing the big kitchen and stocking it with almost everything we could posible need to create a gourmet meal, with plenty of room to have the whole family get involved. For spending time indoors, we enjoy a great collection of family games, and movies for both young and old. When we feel like enjoying the great outdoors we play basketball in our huge driveway or sometimes launch our boat at the free community ramp and spend the day fishing or tubing and skiing. We also love all the biking opportunities in the area. On one of our more adventurous days we 'lunched' at nearby historical Drakesbad and afterwards took a dip in their pool fed by the hot springs. Next time we may add a horseback ride, and then dinner and campfire stories. During the winter we snow-shoe right out our front door across the street and through the forest. We have also had the opportunity to go snowmobiling wth friends in different locations nearby. Our girls just love playing in the snow and sledding with neighborhood friends.
The purpose of our trip was to visit places in Chester and Westwood that brought back memories for my husband who was raised and went to school in both areas. It was a last minute decision and we were fortunate the family was able to make adjustments and that this home was available.
When we walked into the home we were all taken back at how clean and up to date it was. Everything was better than anticipated and far better than the pictures. The layout of the home was perfect for our family. We had 4 adults and 2 children, ages 4 & 5 years old. The beds were very comfortable; the kitchen was spotless and had everything needed to prepare meals. The area was so peaceful and quiet and very relaxing.
I would definitely recommend renting this home and if we are in the area again, we would certainly try to rent it again.
This is a very nice newer home. It has a very spacious main room, a big open kitchen, huge dining table and a large deck. It sits in a nice quiet neighborhood just off the main road. We enjoyed the modern conveniences, comfortable beds and the lovely decor. There is no off-air TV or satellite service, DVD and VHS only. If the weather is warmer than usual I suggest bringing a fan, there is no A/C, swamp cooler or whole house fan. The owner is very friendly and easy to deal with. I would definitely stay again.
This was my second visit to this lovely home in 4 years. It offers comfort and a touch of luxury to enjoy the relaxing environment of Hamilton Branch. The customer service by the owners and their representative was top notch, with added information provided that gives any visitors a feeling of a home town trip. TVs available were only functioning for DVD viewing, so watching any normal channels was not available, but other than that, everything was perfect. I would definitely return and suggest this location to others.
We just got back from our vacation to Lake Almanor. After a seven hour trip on our Harleys we were relieved to finally reach our destination. We were pleased when we pulled up to the house and delighted when we entered it.
The house was exactly as described in the posting and had all the comforts of home, which was very important to us as we were only able to carry a minimal amount of things on our bikes. The open kitchen and great room makes the living space an ideal setting for any gathering. The house was equipped with all of the essentials one would need for cooking and the deck has a nice gas barbecue.
The house more than suited our needs (five adults) on this road trip; however, it would also be an ideal home for any family with children.
The house is located within a small community of homes and was safe enough that we did not have to worry about our bikes at night. We also enjoyed a walk to the lake (about 1 mile) and evening walks in the neighborhood.
This house is truly a gem. You'll want to check out if you are interested in renting a home at Lake Almanor.
My family and friends enjoyed our visit. Lake Almanor is a delightful recreation area worth seeing and exploring. This property had all the modern conveniences, was clean and very comfortable for our two adults and five kids pack. Location is a nice quiet neighborhood, just minutes from the lake and other activities. I would certainly recommend this property to friends, family and others interested in enjoying the area.
We so enjoyed our vacation at Lake Almanor. The house was so much more than we ever expected, so spacious and clean. There was nothing that the owners didn't think of. Our family enjoyed many great meals prepared in the very well equipt kitchen. Especially loved all beautiful serving dishes. (If you feel the need to eat out, we would highly recommend Gamboni's Penninsula Grill or Tantardino's Pizzeria & Pasta. Both restaurants are located nearby on Peninsula Dr., across the street from each other.) After long days of sun and fun at the lake, we slept so well on the comfy, obviously new, beds.
We are located in the Hamilton Branch Community, right off A13 near the Baily Creek Golf Course and theCountry Club golf course.
Big Springs and the Peninsula are just down the way from our neighborhood. Great restaurants and fabulous deli/market are nearby. We are located in a quiet neighborhood just a minutes drive to our associations private boat launch.
In the winter you can walk out the front door and go snow shoeing or cross country skiing on miles of great trails, in the summer you can hike these trails as well, pack a picnic and take in the great views as you find yourself the perfect spot to dine, all with out having to get the car.

Golf: Bailey Creek Golf Course is right across A13 from the home,this is a terrific golf course with club house snack bar and full service restaurant, stop in for a cocktial after enjoying a day of golf.
Ski: The visitor center at MT. Lassen Natioal Park is amazing, there are fantastic hiking trails and thermal pools to explore.
For lunch there is a snack bar, but this is a fun place to pack a picnic, find your favorite view and relax for awhile.
The Drakes Bad resort is also fantastic, with a sit down lunch[reservations recommended] you are then able to use their facilities, hot pool, showers and horse back ridding.
