The Lake Almanor Basin is best known as a recreation paradise and the gateway to nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. It's where the Sierra Nevada range and the Cascade range meet.

Our home is located right near the Hamilton Branch inlet to Lake Almanor. This is at the North end of the East Shore, just down the road from the Country Club golf course on the peninsula, and the golf course at Bailey Creek. We are conveniently located near the intersection of A13 and Highway 147, just within minutes of the towns of Clear Creek and Westwood. Also close by is the main town of Chester with all your grocery and rental and shopping needs. Fly-in vacations are easy at the Rogers Field Airport.

We completed construction on our vacation home in the summer of 2008. It has approximately 1900 sq. ft. of living space, with views of Dyer Mountain from our Great Room.

We know that you will be very comfortable in our 'home away from home', whether you are coming just to relax, or to take part in all that Lake Almanor has to offer. For examples of the myriad of adventures to be had here, please see “activities” under Vacation Rental Features below.

About Dee Dee Nugent

About the owner: We live on the central coast of California. It's about a 7 hour drive away, with stops for the girls. My husband Joe works for a college and I am a Chef for a University.We have two girls, they both teach and coach water polo and swim, which keeps us all very busy. The girls love going to the lake. They have made great friends in the neighborhood that they snowshoe with in the winter and hike and bike around the lake with in the summer. We all enjoy going out on our boat. Having 2 launch ramps only a couple of miles away makes it convenient to get in and out of the water quickly. My husband and I, (but mostly Joe), have built 80% of this house ourselves. Joe's love for building has made this a true adventure. Sometimes through rain, snow and sleet, using all his vacation time and every other weekend for a year, Joe traveled to Lake Almanor to build our lake house. It has been a true labor of love. He has done such a great job, and we would now like to share it with others. If you bring your friends and family we're sure you won't be disappointed. There are so many great things to do here and you'll have a roomy, comfortable home to call your own during your stay. We're sure you'll make great memories here, as we have. Happy Vacationing! Why Dee Dee Nugent chose Hamilton Branch

We fell in love with Lake Almanor in 2005, after visiting family that lived in the area. It's almost like being in Mayberry RFD, the people are so friendly and helpful, and there's almost no crime. Though we love living on the Central Coast we decided to build a second home in a small, 'four season' recreational area. We searched for this property for over a year. My husband Joe would drive up and scout around looking for the perfect place to build. We finally found what we were looking for with a view of the mountains and so close to the lake. The house was completed in the fall of 2008.

What makes this house unique

There are so many unique benefits that we enjoy while spending time at our property. Joe's brother designed the original plans for our house which we modified to accommodate our needs to entertain large groups of friends and family. I have enjoyed designing the big kitchen and stocking it with almost everything we could posible need to create a gourmet meal, with plenty of room to have the whole family get involved. For spending time indoors, we enjoy a great collection of family games, and movies for both young and old. When we feel like enjoying the great outdoors we play basketball in our huge driveway or sometimes launch the boat at the free ramp at Canyon Dam and spend the day fishing or tubing and skiing. We also love all the biking opportunities in the area. On one of our more adventurous days we 'lunched' at nearby historical Drakesbad and afterwards took a dip in their pool fed by the hot springs. Next time we may add a horseback ride, and then dinner and campfire stories. During the winter we snow-shoe right out our front door across the street and through the forest. We have also had the opportunity to go snowmobiling wth friends in different locations nearby. Our girls just love playing in the snow and sledding with neighborhood friends.

Notes:
We have furnished our vacation rental with all the comforts of home and more. It is ideal for 6-10 people. The spacious gourmet kitchen has table service for 16 so you will not have to run the dishwasher after every meal. There is also room for more than 10 to dine. Guest rooms with a half bath off the large laundry room near the front of the house. There are 3 bedrooms; 1 King bed in Master Suite, 1 Queen in second bedroom, and 2 Twins in third bedroom. In the third bedroom you will also find a nice convertible sofa that pulls out to a Queen bed. We also have a double futon sofa in the laundry room with the half bath attached to it. The Master Suite has a huge walk through closet to hang clothes or could be perfect for a nursery, with plenty of space for a porta-crib. The Master Bath is spacious with double sinks and both a full shower and separate tub.

A terrific family retreat

The purpose of our trip was to visit places in Chester and Westwood that brought back memories for my husband who was raised and went to school in both areas. It was a last minute decision and we were fortunate the family was able to make adjustments and that this home was available.

When we walked into the home we were all taken back at how clean and up to date it was. Everything was better than anticipated and far better than the pictures. The layout of the home was perfect for our family. We had 4 adults and 2 children, ages 4 & 5 years old. The beds were very comfortable; the kitchen was spotless and had everything needed to prepare meals. The area was so peaceful and quiet and very relaxing.

I would definitely recommend renting this home and if we are in the area again, we would certainly try to rent it again.

A wonderful home away from home

Beautiful and spacious home with everything needed to enjoy a Lake Almanor vacation. The outdoor deck with BBQ is the perfect spot for relaxing and socializing. We would definitely stay here again.

The House was great!

We came for labor day weekend with the kids and the grandparents. The house was so pleasant and comfortable. We had to drive 20 minutes to the public beach which was great (just next to the dam). Lassen Park was a bit further away from what I was hoping but overall we were very pleased and might come back if we are in the area again.

BEWARE

BEWARE. Do not be fooled by this owner's property description or sweet photo of her family.

The home was not as advertised. I emailed the property owner ahead of time, notifying we were bringing our close friend with terminal cancer. The home does not have AC and it was miserably hot. When asked about it she told us to open the windows at night. No, it did not cool down enough at night, even though we brought our own fans. If I had told her my very ill friend was coming, wouldn't common decency dictate to disclose lack of basic environmental controls?

When I was searching for a property, I specifically searched for properties that allowed pets. It wasn't until I got there until I saw the rule on the fridge, "no pets". Sunday during the day, the owner came to the home when there were no cars in the driveway (I stayed home to take a nap, the rest of the family went fishing) and ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE HOME WHILE I WAS HOME ALONE. Our interaction made me extremely uncomfortable and gave me nightmares. If there was a concern about the noise or other issues, we could have been told directly instead of passive aggressive and invasive tactics. We're all professional adults and never had more than 10 people in the house.

Immediately after our conversation, she changed the profile to "no pets". Prior to that, the profile of the home did not disclose this.

I have rented 6 properties all over the country and this is hands down the worst experience I've ever had. Her behavior was so shifty we made sure to take photos of the property before we left. We followed all of her rules and still an additional aggregious amount was taken out of my deposit for "spills" on the floor and because I brought my little dog without knowing that it was against the rules (this is in addition to the cleaning deposit).

In addition:

The TV's are from the 90's and have poor sound. None of the remotes that are there match the TV's.

She advertises a "pool table" but it's actually a multigame table about a quarter of the size of a regular pool table.

There were not any paper towels, saran wrap, or aluminum foil.

There was not enough toilet paper for our group... we had to go buy our own.

Any questions I had I asked her and was greeted with condescending answers. When I asked for explanation, I was greeted with silence.

This is the most corrupt, unscrupulous experience I've had for a long time. I love Lake Almanor, but not sure I'd live there if these are the neighbors.

Great Family Home

This house was perfect for my children and grandchildren. The kitchen was beautiful and very well appointed. There was plenty of room for everyone. The owner was very nice and the home was spotless. We would stay there again in a flash!!

Great house, needs a/c

We loved the house for our size of group. Beautiful kitchen but it was so hot we couldn't really use it. Ants all over was also a pain. Was so nice to have all the linens, towels etc. and we loved the BBQ and deck. Water access was not as close as advertised.

We are located in the Hamilton Branch Community, right off A13 near the Baily Creek Golf Course and the Country Club golf course.

Big Springs and the Peninsula are just down the way from our neighborhood. Great restaurants and fabulous deli/market are nearby. We are located in a quiet neighborhood just a minutes drive to Hamilton branch river and Lake Almanor.

In the winter you can walk out the front door and go snow shoeing or cross country skiing on miles of great trails, in the summer you can hike these trails as well, pack a picnic and take in the great views as you find yourself the perfect spot to dine, all with out having to get the car.

Other Activities: Boating, snowboarding, basketball, kayaking, snowmobiling

Golf: Bailey Creek Golf Course is right across A13 from the home,this is a terrific golf course with club house snack bar and full service restaurant, stop in for a cocktail after enjoying a day of golf.

Ski: The visitor center at MT. Lassen National Park is amazing, there are fantastic hiking trails and thermal pools to explore.

For lunch there is a snack bar, but this is a fun place to pack a picnic, find your favorite view and relax for awhile.

The Drakes Bad resort is also fantastic, with a sit down lunch[reservations recommended] you are then able to use their facilities, hot pool, showers and horse back ridding.
