Don't miss our video! (On VRBO, click on the video tab above the main photo. On Homeaway, scroll all the way down, below "Amenities" to the blue links.) The moment you drive up the circular shell driveway and see the stonework, gardens and wrap-around farmers’ porches, you're going to feel all the comfort and delight of being at your own dream home. From sunrise flooding the breakfast area until the last rays of the sun set over the moors, the house glows with the beauty of Nantucket’s ever-changing light. Custom built and brimming with unique architectural details and appointments of the highest quality, it is a house sophisticated enough for entertaining but comfortable enough to just kick off your flip flops, put on some music and relax after a tough day at the beach. “Incandescence” is decorated in a warm English country style with plenty of antique pine and chintz and a collection of vintage Ralph Lauren linens. And although this large (4,800 square foot) house comfortably sleeps 12, it is chock full of unpretentious places, intimate spaces, and the quirky little hideaways that make a classic Nantucket home linger forever in your memory ... The Bedrooms and Baths: 'Incandescence' is spacious enough for two or even three families to vacation together. Each of the five bedrooms has its own beautifully tiled en suite bath, and there are two half baths off the 'public' rooms.

The huge master bedroom on the second floor boasts a private covered balcony and a spa-sized, luxurious, tumbled-marble bath with a jacuzzi tub, from which there are beautiful views across Tom Nevers and out to sea. The master bath also has his & her sinks and a large two-person, glass-enclosed shower with double shower-heads and multiple wall jets.

Two of the bedrooms on the first floor - one with a king bed, and one with a full bed and futon -are off a large, private hallway. Both rooms are large (particularly the king), and could easily serve as second 'masters' when two or three families vacation together. Another bedroom - with two twins (that can be converted to a king) - is off the living area. Bedroom #5 has a queen bed and is on the second floor.

The 'Living' Areas: The living room features cathedral ceilings, high gable windows, a wood burning fireplace, and French doors out to the deck, which is equipped with table, chairs, umbrella, gas grill and an outdoor shower. A wonderful gourmet kitchen with butter-yellow glazed cabinetry, limestone counters and stainless steel appliances awaits your culinary flair; an open floor plan to the large dining area allows hosts and guests to feel equally at home. Off the kitchen is a charming, inviting family room with stereo, TV and games for the whole family, plus a gas-fired fireplace to take the chill off those late summer/early Fall nights. Air conditioning, cable, high speed Internet, and WiFi allow you to remain comfortable and stay in touch, even on the “Far Away Land.”

Sorry, no pets. But we invite you to consider 'Lesser Light' ~ our dog-friendly cottage. Click here for details: HomeAway 936025

About Lauren Klein

We welcome you to 'Incandescence,' a lovely and spacious house that Ron and I designed, built and decorated, and completed in 2010.

Why Lauren Klein chose Nantucket

Ron chose this property because it is a lush, beautiful, 3 acre parcel with distant ocean views, affording privacy and at the same time easy access to everything Nantucket has to offer. A builder on the island for 20 years, this is the fourth (and largest) house that Ron has built in Tom Nevers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We enjoyed all that Nantucket has to offer. Most of all this beautiful house which had all the amenities to make or stay even more comfortable."

"We enjoyed your beautiful home. Didn't get to meet you. Wish you all the best, and thank you for having us here."

We were a group of old friends, with a couple kids, on the island for a wedding, and we wanted to find a big house to accommodate everyone in a true and relaxed way, and Incandescence did that and more. The fact that all bedrooms have full baths, and the way the house flows, means that everyone felt like they had a luxurious amount of space and privacy. We cooked big feasts, spent a lot of time in the house, walked to the gorgeous beach, and slept peacefully. Ron and Lauren were exceptional hosts in all ways, and we highly recommend this place.

Beautiful home on a wonderful island!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Incandescence over Labor Day Weekend! The home was beautiful and extremely well maintained. We had 11 people (4 "couples" and 3 "singles") sleep very comfortably. For having so much space, the home is still full of charm! For example, there is an "widow's watch" on the roof providing a gorgeous 360 degree view of the island.

There is a bike path entrance very close by, so we were able to rent bikes and bike 15 minutes down to the quaint town & beaches in Sconset. We didn't have a car on the island, but there is a WAVE bus stop right outside the house which takes you into town.

Nantucket is amazing – we enjoyed Cisco Brewery, Tom Nevers Beach, Sconset walking path, and dinners downtown. We unfortunately had a bit of bad weather at the end of the trip, but the homeowners were very accommodating and let us rent for another day (since the ferries were cancelled).

Overall, we loved our stay and would highly recommend it to a group of girlfriends, a family, or a few couples looking for a nice place to stay on the island. Hopefully we will be back!

lovely family home

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself and our 3 married children and grandchildren spent a week in this beautiful home. It was roomy and very clean. The grounds are beautiful and it is very close to beautiful bike paths. If the weather is not good it is a delightful and immaculate home to spend your time. Lauren & Ron are a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend this home.

Owner's Response: It is hard to say which we love more: when families like yours come three or four generations strong and everyone has a great time, or when we talk to the great-grandfolks who tell tales about when they first visited the Island eight decades back. Nantucket is a place that can get into your heart and stay there forever. It's lovely to see young children catching the magic from their grandfolks. I hope we'll be seeing them - and the grandchildren soon-to-come - sometime again. It's a great summer ritual.

The perfect vacation home for our family!

  • 5 of 5

Incandescence was the perfect home for our family vacation. The house exceeded our high expectations! It was located at the end of a secluded drive and was beautifully decorated with plenty of room for 8 adults and 4 young children. The master bedroom was especially luxurious! Incandescence is just minutes away from Tom Nevers beach and the town of Sconset. The owners were very responsive to our needs and immediately replaced the propane tank so we could use the barbecue. We ate most of our dinners at the house and the kitchen was well equipped - they even had two large lobster pots! We would enthusiastically recommend this home to our family and friends and hope to return ourselves!

Owner's Response: It's hard to cook lobsters for 12 in a single pot! As guests make comments and suggestions we are always listening and always trying to making things a little closer to 'perfect' for their vacation stay. We would love to have you back again: maybe even for the (famous) Christmas Stroll or Daffodil Weekend!

We had a wonderful week ! House was large enough for our group of 12

  • 5 of 5

We never felt like we were on top of each other

Everything you could think of in kitchen Loved that each bedroom had its own bath. First time staying in Tom Nevers -- enjoyed being closer to town. We really liked the seclusion and quietness of Tom Nevers Beach

Great house !

Owner's Response: When we designed the house, we thought back to some of our own extended vacations - and let's just say that there are always some relatives with whom you'd rather not have to share a bathroom. So, yes, every bed has it's own private bath, there are two half baths AND an outdoor shower. And we always love to hear when people discover the 'private beach' charms of the public beach just down the road: even on the busiest days of summer it can feel like you and your clan have the place to yourself.

Stately yet Cozy Home, Quintessential "Nantucket"

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this lovely Nantucket home, and to say it was hard to leave is an understatement. My family and extended family all came together for the many celebrations the week held: My mother's 60th birthday, my daughter's 6th birthday, and my parent's 39th wedding anniversary! Lots to celebrate, and this home was the perfect spot to congregate.

We spent most nights in the home, cooking meals and enjoying the inside and outside space. The backyard deck was a perfect spot for dinners and chats.

My husband and I are in training for an Ironman in August, so we definitely got to see the island during our runs and biking on the nearby path. We visited many beaches, and visited many of the sites... Cisco, Sankaty Lighthouse, downtown, and a ton of beaches, so it was imperative that we had our car to travel around.

I highly recommend this home and can't wait to return next year!

Owner's Response: We know that one of the pleasures of a house for 12 means that three, sometimes four generations can all come together and - let's just say - be a lot more comfortable then when everyone has to sleep in grandma's sitting room! People can stretch out, pursue their own interests and desires and come together for meals and All Aboard outings. So.. we're used to people doing different things... but Ironman??? That's a new one -- and we're deeply impressed. Good luck and hope we will see you next year.. .blisters and all!

Car: recommended

Located in the quiet Tom Nevers East section of the island, this lovely home allows easy access to all the pleasures of Nantucket summers even while sitting serenely on three lush, private acres, surrounded by gardens, up a long, private winding driveway. Since the part of Tom Nevers we are in is all zoned for 3 acre lots, there is a lot of privacy -- few houses and a lot of vegetation. There are lovely distant ocean views from the second and third floors. From the easily accessed widow’s walk, enjoy views of the South Shore, the Cranberry Bogs, Low Beach and Sankaty Lighthouse. After returning from the beach or your adventures in town or hiking through the nearby Middle Moors, enjoy outdoor games in the spacious backyard, pull up a chaise lounge or curl up on the wicker furniture on the sprawling front porch, grill the day’s catch on the back deck's gas grill, take a nap in the hammock, watch the incredible night sky just outside your door - without the lights of town interfering - and delight in the best of Nantucket!

We are only minutes from the bike path, and a WAVE (shuttle bus) stop into town (which is about a 12 minute drive), about a 7 minute drive to 'mid-island' -- where you'll find a Stop & Shop and several pharmacies, and about a 4 minute drive to the village of Siasconset ('Sconset), where you can park your chair on the gorgeous beach, catch some rays, read a good book, and when you get hungry, leave everything there and walk up the stairs from the beach right into the middle of the quaintest, most charming village. There's a general store with all kinds of good things, including the most delicious coconut and ginger ice creams. Then take a stroll around and look at some of the famous rose-covered cottages -- all framed by the sparkling blue sea. 'Sconset offers five restaurants (besides the general store): a cute sandwich shop (Claudette's); the beach-side bistro at the Summer House; the upstairs bar and restaurant at the Summer House; The Sconset Cafe, which has a really nice breakfast, offers lunch and a BYOB dinner (the liquor/wine shop is adjacent to it); and The Chanticleer which offers an upscale dinning room and a more casual bar dining area (lunch in season).

We are about a mile and a half walk to the closest beach (Tom Nevers Beach). This summer, two sets of our guests simply raved about Tom Nevers Beach, saying they couldn't understand why it was so uncrowded but that it was beautiful and they felt like they were on their own private island. You get there by just walking straight down the road until you come to the sea. Probably about 15 or 20 minutes by foot.
