This property has something for the whole family to enjoy. A large wrap-around porch, outdoor seating and grill make outdoor living enjoyable, while a spacious living room, full kitchen, cable TV, DVD and game closet make indoor living fun as well. Located at the end of Oak Bluffs' main street on Penacook Ave (the website map is incorrect), there is easy access to amazing shopping and many dining options without a lot of noise and congestion. Down the street is the famous Inkwell Beach perfect for an afternoon nap, or a full day of sun and surf. Public transportation and bike paths all over the island make cars convenient but not necessary, and beautiful scenery makes walking pleasant as well. Oak Bluffs offers the best of the Island from the famous Mad Martha's Ice Cream, Black Dog Store, Giordano's Italian Restaurant, and Flying Horses Carousel. An arcade and night clubs offer many entertainment options, and water sport rentals offer fun filled days on Martha's Vineyard for everyone.
Our house has been in the family since 1959. We constantly seek to update without destroying the character of the original 1870"s house. All the modern conveniences are included - Air conditioning, WiFi, cable internet, flat screen TV and more
Mary Alane Downs purchased this cottage in 1959
you can walk up the street at midnight and get freshly made donuts from back door donuts. it's a New York Times not to be missed experience.
walking distance to everything needed for a great beach vacation - beaches, bike paths, tennis/basketball court, play ground, movie theatre, shopping , many dining options, grocery store, liquor store, arcade and more.
I thought I'd let you know that this past vacation in Martha's Vineyard (the last week of July) was easily my most fun vacation to date. I had such a great time, and there is no way I would have had half the fun had it not been for your wonderful house. This is the both my feeling, and those of my friends - we all had a most wonderful time.
We loved this home! We have been going to the Vineyard for the past 5 years, and this house was the most convenient and charming of all! We loved being steps off of Circuit Avenue, and the house is warm and comfortable. There's plenty of space for a family and the house is well taken care of by the owners. The beach is only a short walk away and the house has beach chairs and coolers for convenience. The best part is sitting on the beautiful porch and relaxing with family!
We had a lovely time at this house. We have stayed on island in Oak Bluffs before and were pleased with this location and all that the house has to offer. It is a great bonus that things like beach chairs and coolers were available for usage. Mary Alane was very responsive and easy to work with. The air conditioning was a great bonus especially on 80 degree day with a 2 month old. We will be back!
This vacation home made me feel at home! The description was accurate and the photos are current. The house was clean and well kept, the owner takes pride by keeping the facilities updated. I enjoyed sleeping next to the window in the single bed middle room and with the window open I heard the sounds and smells of the harbor and the restautants. The town center, or the circuit, was next-door and I enjoyed grabbing a morning coffee with a walk around the harbor followed by hours of porch sitting in the large wrap around porch with a hammock. For meals I had many options to grocery shop, eat in the large variety of restaurants, or grab carryout from the dive bar. The circuit includes a variety of shopping and the famous flying horses carousel.
I never needed a car. The ferry is a quick 5 minute walk through the beautiful park, food and shopping is a block away, and the beautiful houses of the camp ground are directly across the street.
I felt at home and will certainly return and spend much more time porch sitting and experiencing island life.
The owner was kind and responded quickly. She is well experienced as a property owner as helpful hints regarding trash pickup and amenity controls were well posted and up to date.
I can't wait to come back.
