About The Owner

My family has been vacationing and living on Sanibel for over 40 years. I started coming here as a small child to visit relatives. We have been here countless times since. We love Sanibel because it's a wonderful place to relax and get away from the pace of our everyday life. At the same time we can enjoy hiking, biking, shelling and 1st class restaurants and shopping.

The Owner purchased this condo in 2005

Why The Owner chose Florida South Central Gulf Coast

We chose the Island Beach club because of it's unique location on Sanibel. It is located right where the island bends and right where the best shelling beach is. It also has the nicest beach on the island. We chose our specific unit because of it's location in the IBC complex. It is on the 2nd floor right over the covered parking. This gives us the ability to use the stairs all the time. There is an elevator also but we like the convenience and speed of the stairs. We also chose it for it's wonderful east and south exposures. The front of the condo faces west and has windows and a door on that side also. We were able to completely gut and renovate this unit and make it a platinum 5 star rated condo. This requires specific requirements and amenities.

What makes this condo unique

Loads of sunshine, miles of bike paths, nearby health club, nearby golf and tennis. World class shelling.

We always come back to this condo

  • 5 of 5

We have been returning to this condo since we first found it. We stayed at John and Audrey's condo the first week of June this year. Our days of travel were not the traditional Saturday to Saturday and John was very flexible to work things out to get us in. Last year we stayed for longer than the 7 nights and we were also accommodated.

We love this condo. It is beautiful inside. The tile and stone throughout is just incredible. The master bath is done completely in stone and is a great space. They have remodeled this condo with a different layout from the other condos at IBC. The master bath is large and private. The kitchen is another area they gave a lot of attention. We cooked nearly all of our meals in the kitchen. We only ate at restaurants twice while we were at Sanibel this time. We wanted to maximize our time on the beach and in the water. All of this said, the main reason that we chose this condo in the first place, besides the beautiful interior, is the view of the Gulf. It is not a direct beachfront property, but the view form the screened in lanai is wonderful - the palm trees and the Gulf- what more could you ask for. My husband fishes from the beach here and gets going very early in the morning. I can watch him from the lanai before I go down. Also when you open up the blinds on the wall of windows, it is like the condo is an extension of the outdoors. This year there were two little frogs that could somehow scale the windows and hung out along the sills.

The shed has chairs and umbrellas and some toys for the beach. There are 5 beach towels also available in the condo so you don't have to pack them. Paper and soap items are also provided. There was plenty of dishwasher detergent, but I would recommend buying some laundry detergent. I did at least 2 loads of laundry each day. With kids, something is always needing washed and it is so nice to be able to wash them in the evening or morning right in the condo. It also makes it possible to pack lighter.

We come to Sanibel for this location. We could stay the entire time right here along this stretch of beach and not visit any where else. It has a great condo, fishing from shore, lots of different animal life, great shelling, and a multitude of people who are happy to be doing the same things you are. We will definitely be returning to John and Audrey's condo and are thankful that they have made it available to us. - Mary

Beach Castle

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a lovely stay. The condo was clean and well-maintained and provided us with all necessities to feel like a home away from home. The owners were accommodating and caring. We found the condo warm, welcoming, and child(Our children are 9 months and 2 ½ years old) friendly. Our daughter called the condo our "beach castle"! I highly recommend for a quiet family get-away! We look forward to returning again soon.

Couldn't be any closer to the beach!

  • 4 of 5

Very quiet condo complex with friendly neighbors. Can't be closer to the beach anywhere else on the island than here, as building regs on the island no longer allow buildings to be this close. This corner unit was quiet and comfortable, and had a great view of the ocean with a corner lanai. The master bedroom and living room both had lanai access, great for an ocean breeze and crashing waves to sleep to. The in-unit washer and dryer were a definite plus. The whole complex overall seems a bit dated, but was well taken care of, and had a nice pool surrounded by palms that made it feel more isolated. This unit seemed to have newer renovations like updated kitchen and bathrooms. Restaurants are fairly near by, and the beach was pleasant. If you love shelling you will love this beach! We were lucky enough to see a sea turtle lay her eggs during a full moon night walk on the beach! So cool! The whole area feels very safe and relaxed, more so than any other place we've visited. Owners are responsive and pleasant to work with. If I were to visit Sanibel again, I would stay here again!

Nice complex, but 220E has serious maintenance issues

  • 3 of 5

There many nice things about the condo and the area in general which we liked, but there are several maintenance type issues that keep it from being a really nice place to stay. The first thing we noticed was the screen door is basically falling off its hinges. We arrived late and noticed the phone / cable / internet was obviously not operational. There is a phone which is kept in one of the kitchen cabinets, but we had a difficult time trying to use it. Our cell phones didn’t work very well in this area, so we really needed a land line. The next morning I tried using the phone again and the only thing I could do, was contact the phone / cable provider. I was told that service had been shut off since January 2015 (this call was on 5/5/2015). The person I talked to even told me the amount due and it would need to be paid before service could be restored. My wife was able to make contact with the owner and I believe she talked to the husband (John maybe? He was very nice and understanding) and service was restored within about 2 hours. Additional problems with this condo during our stay included the following:

The Bad:

• The front screen door is falling off its hinges and doesn’t shut properly.

• The patio door from the main room to the lanai does not shut properly. It was so difficult to shut once opened (we could only shut it from the lanai area), that we didn’t use it. We only used the patio door from the master bedroom to the lanai.

• There are lighting issues throughout the condo. Some appear to be an issue with the bulbs (in the kitchen and guest bath, while others seem more serious. In the master bath there is only 1 of the 4 or 5 overhead lights that operate, plus the one in the shower worked. I believe there is an electrical lighting problem in the master bathroom. It was so dark in that room that we used one of the lamps from another room.

• I felt the condo was relatively clean when we arrived, but the main shower head in the master bath had what looked like black mold all over it. We cleaned and used it. There were only 3 washcloths in the bathroom of which one had a black stain on it, and there were no dishcloths in the kitchen.

• It got very hot during our stay and the air conditioning in the condo worked very well in the living area (kitchen and the large room), but the bedrooms did not seem to cool as well. We used a couple of fans to help with that issue.

• We also suspect that the dryer vent may be blocked.

Disappointed with owner

  • 2 of 5

We rented this condo in July 2014. We arrived early and the condo was not clean even though the owner said it had not been rented the week prior to our stay. When we called the owner she had the cleaners there quickly and we were able to go to the beach while we waited for the condo to be cleaned. During our second day we found upon our return to the condo, water running out from under the condo wall onto walkway. The hot water tank had burst. The water had soaked the rug in the room and everything on the floor. We contacted the owner and she informed us she would take care of getting the problem fixed. No one was sent to clean up the water and we spent the biggest part of that vacation day removing the saturated rug and cleaning up the water in the condo and waiting for the plumber that the owner called. During our stay we had a much loved item with us that was left at the condo and the owner assured us that she would overnight to us. We have contacted her numerous times and have not received a reply nor the item.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately we cannot control when a water heater bursts. We did however have a plumber there immediately to replace it with a new water heater and clean it up. A condo is not like a hotel where you can change rooms. You can just fix it the same day which we did. This guests small child left behind a small stuffed monkey which was not found. We had the cleaning people look for it, the next guests and I even looked for it when I was a the condo. We cannot be responsible for things left behind. We do our best to return items left if they are found but sadly this was not. I am sorry that you had to put up with getting a new water heater and that your child lost the monkey.
