We loved our stay in South Bay Beach Club. The condo was perfect, clean and very well equipped. Ernie, the manager, is absolutely nice and always available for any service and advice. Our daughters were very happy to spend their vacation there, sharing their time between the swimming-pool and the beach. We really hope to come back in Cayman and will choose the same condo!
My husband and I were very excited about going to the Cayman islands to celebrate our 20th anniversary, as we had found the perfect accomodations. Much to our dismay, when we arrived at the airport we were not able to get on our flight because we had been misinformed about required travel documents and our passports are expired. I emailed the owner of the property and VRBO and got an immediate response. Both the owner and VRBO were sympathetic and very understanding and offered a complete refund and processed the refund right away.
We will be renewing our passports and rescheduling our vacation as soon as possible and look forward to patronizing this condo owner and VRBO! It';s nice to know that in a bad situation, Mike and VRBO "had our backs"!
This is a fantastic property right on Seven Mile Beach. The condo was in excellent condition. The building mangement was very good and cleaning staff excellent.
I know I will run out of room for my review...it is a fantastic condo and location. The best feature of this condo is the direct access out the patio door to the private pool and private beach...a 15-20 second walk from the patio to be in the pool or in your beach chair (or in one of the hammocks)...then another 15-20 seconds to be in the ocean. You will not need a cooler (or beach/pool bag) because it only takes 30-45 seconds to walk round-trip to the fridge. My girlfriend loves the sun-and-sand (beach) and I am a shade-and-pool guy, so we both had what we preferred and we were only 20-30 feet apart the entire time. Security wise, we were able to leave the patio door unlocked whenever we were at the pool or on the private beach (or even in the ocean) because you always have line-of-sight to the patio door. Also, speaking of security, I forgot and left my Kindle at the pool one afternoon and the security guy found it during his evening/night rounds, got it to Ernie and it was then returned to me early the next morning. I figured that I would never see it again and am not so sure I would have if we had been staying at one of the larger and "less personal" locations. (This event spoke volumes to me about the folks that work at and manage this resort.) There are plenty of chairs, umbrellas and tables available, unlike all of the crowded, high-dollar, high-end, "pay extra for everything" places we walked by on the beach. (Also, there are no "extra charges" for chairs, umbrellas, etc., which many places have.) Pack light, because the washer-dryer works great. Bring some beach shoes to wear in the water (with at least a little bit of a protective sole), as you will want to walk out some to swim or snorkel right in the ocen directly in front of the condo. Bring a mask-snorkel if you have it, or rent one for $6-8 dollars a day at the dive shop right next to the condo, or buy one at the gift shop next door for less than $30 dollars. Don't rent a car unless you want to check out the whole island. Use the buses for everything, including going to-from the grocery store, going to-from the Dolphin Experience/Turtle Farm, going to-from the town of Hell, etc. They are cheap, convenient and frequent. Don't rent a moped-scooter, primarily because of the volume of traffic on the main road(s) and the driving on the wrong side of the road "thing." (Trust me on this, as I am a long-time "motorcycle guy.") Running out of room!!! Condo-Mike-Ernie-Verna were simply the best!
My family and I recently spent 4 nights in this condo and we could not have bee more pleased with the entire experience. Mike was great to work with and he even sent his "Island Contact/Taxi Driver, Vera to meet at the airport. When we arrived at the condo, Ernie the condo manager, met us in the parking lot with our keys and directed us to our unit. The best "check in" ever! Ernie was also very helpful with dinner and car rental reservations. I did not expect "concierge services" in a condo but Ernie goes out of his way to provide a wonderful experience to all the guests.
The condo was beautiful and even better than we expected. Everything was brand new and absolutely immaculate. The view, sunsets and proximity to the beach are terrific. From the screened porch to the beach and pool (with ample lounge chairs and umbrellas) is a distance of about 10 yards.
If you have never been to Grand Cayman and Seven Mile beach, you will find it to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With that said, the beach directly in front of the condo is a little rocky but it does have a fairly good man-made reef which provides some good snorkeling. For a spectacular stretch of sandy beach you have to walk about 50 yards north.
The condo itself is well furnished and equipped with all of the basic necessities. In fact, the furniture is much nicer than you will find in most rental condos (Brown Jordan patio furniture!).
If you plan to rent a car, Andy's Car Rental is a 2 minute walk and they also have a location at the airport. If you would like to tour the entire island or visit some of the nicer restaurants a car is needed. There is bus service that runs regularly along Seven Mile Beach and into Georgetown ($2 Cayman per person). For breakfast, lunch and casual dinners, Coconut Joe's is a 2 minute walk and has good food at a reasonable price (try the fish tacos).
Overall, this is a great condo and we hope to return soon!
If you're considering a rental on Seven Mile Beach, this is an excellent choice. Fantastic location beside the Marriott, a modern condo with all amenities, a wonderful and enormously helpful owner, friendly on-site property management - all at excellent value. I was originally planning to stay at the Westin but this was a far superior choice. Rent with confidence.
