BED BUGS!!!

BED BUGS

I’m certain there are no more words needed to say but I thought I’d share the details of our horrible experience at Loyola Flats. My daughters and I were coming for a girl’s weekend trip to visit my daughter at Loyola. Upon arrival at midnight after a long day/night of travel, we were given the wrong access code and we were not able to enter our room. There was no help accessible - ghost run hotel. We called the “after hours” ghost staff and the proper access code was given, phew, finally able to relax... Getting ready for bed, we noticed that the hand towels in the bathroom were dirty with blood and makeup. Even though the Flats is expensive, I kept telling myself not to be so hard on this student run organization, cut them a break. Once we were all settled in for the night and tucked into bed, that’s when I heard the scream from my daughter’s bedroom, “THERE ARE BED BUGS IN MY BED!!” Bed bugs of all sizes were clearly at home in the mattress and on the sheets. The bed bugs were so large they were visible on my daughter’s pillow when standing at the doorway of the bedroom (approx.10 feet away). Once again, contacted the ghost staff. A friendly young man arrived (from where, I have no idea) to assess the situation and offered us another room at Loyola Flats. Ummmmmmm, NO! If bed bugs are in one room, they are more than likely in many.

We packed up our belongings and left the ‘hotel’ in search of another place to stay. Super fun at 1 AM and not knowing if we were even carrying bed bugs to the next hotel. It was an incredibly traumatic experience finding the bed bugs at Loyola Flats and it was hard having any peace of mind at another hotel after that.

Upon my request, the president of the Flats (a student) called me on Monday and offered to credit the money I already paid to stay at Loyola Flats and also to reimburse me for my stay at another hotel for basically ruining our weekend. It took over a week and one reminder call from me for them to credit back the money I already paid them. After I submitted my invoice to them from the other hotel we stayed at, I was told that I would be required to fill out a W-9 form to receive any reimbursement. Wait what??!! They want me to supply them with my social security number and fill out a tax form? I let them know I had no intention of doing that and they responded with, “It’s the policy of Loyola’s Accounts Payable Department.” When I asked them for the contact

Loyola Flats is great!

  • 5 of 5

We have now stayed at The Flats at Loyola Station three times, in three different one-bedroom units. Each was decorated differently (and tastefully), but we loved each one. Having a full kitchen is great because we can stock up the fridge to eat some of our meals there (and save $). Having a washer and dryer is great because we can pack fewer clothes for our stay. The staff has been excellent and responsive. We had problems with the TV on one stay, and someone came over promptly and took care of the problem. Being close to the El makes getting around Chicago so easy. And having free parking in Chicago is.... really rare.

The reservation system is a bit odd, compared to most other places we've stayed, but they are responsive via email, and they sent all of the information we needed in a timely manner, so I guess that's okay.

Although it's weird not to have a "front desk", it is kind of nice having privacy. You really feel like the place is yours for your stay.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was my 2nd time staying at The Flats and I am sure it won't be the last. I am from Philadelphia and my son will be attending Loyola in the fall. Great location for my family to be so close to the campus. Just like being at home.

Nice experience at the Flats at Loyola Station!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great experience at the Flats! Our stay was comfortable and the staff made things easy and flexible. If I had to offer any suggestions, it would be to add a full-length mirror in the apartment...for a group of ladies, this is a necessity =). Also, we were a group of four, and only had one pillow each (2 standard and 2 king size). A couple more pillows for sleeping would've been nice. All things considered, a nice stay!

OK - With a Few Problems

  • 4 of 5

When we arrived, we found that the access code had been changed. After calling and getting the new code, they changed it again later that day. No coffee pot in coffee maker, shower curtain badly mildewed, chair (IKEA) in living area broken, sliding doors filthy (and screen ripped), and coffee table (again, IKEA) peeling, bubbling and chipped. For a brand new facility, I expected a little better. Outdoor patio for bottom unit located directly against very busy sidewalk. Recommend upper unit with balcony if you want privacy. Very noisy - it sounded like two gorillas wearing clown shoes were racing around upstairs for the duration of each day we were there. Outside of that, it is a nice location, very close to the El, and many nice area restaurants and bars. Nice kitchen with utensils and washer/dryer. I would rate it 5 stars if the problems mentioned above were corrected.
