GREAT PLACE place to stay and see Italy
Hazelnut tower is really an ancient TOWER, beautifully restored with impeccable taste and italian rustic style. A 'Must-Have' experience!!
a lovely place just perfect for us, very quiet for a good night's sleep
and in easy striking distance of some of the regions more well-known as Latium, Tuscany, Umbria.. less than one hour drive from Rome!
The welcome dinner Luigi prepared for us was really excellent ! Unbelievable the brown pasta FETTUCCINE WITH COCOA ! and the deliciuos wood hoven cooked bread!
Franca, a very sweet English speaking owner, provides all information for day trips, area attractions and good wine taste & shopping
If you spend a holiday there do not miss to visit the ancient Ruspoli Castle and its fantastic Italian stile garden. It is just five minutes walk from the tower!
Thank you very much Franca & Luigi for being such wonderful hosts, we wished to have stayed longer.. but we'll come back!
Vignanello, an etruscan village, rises on the slope of hills that, from the Cimini mountains descend towards the Tiber valley, 16 Km from Viterbo and 75 Km from Rome. The location is ideal from which to take pleasurable excursions. Piazza della Repubblica at the sides of which are the most important buildings of the area: the Collegiata, Ruspoli Castle with its splendid Italian garden, Palazzo Pretorio and the numerous churches are worthwhile visiting.
From the surrounding areas, Viterbo and its famous thermal spas can easily be reached together with Bagnaia, Soriano nel Cimino and the “Faggeta”, Orte, Marta, Bomarzo with its “Monster Park”, Vico and Bolsena lakes… and Rome is only a one-hour car drive away! Furthermore, the fact that it is so close to the motorway, the Tuscany and Umbria regions make it a convenient starting point from which to venture out to places which are further away.
‘La Tuscia’ – north of Rome - Northern Lazio, a.k.a. ‘La Tuscia’, was a major Etruscan stomping ground. The roads and tombs of these high-achieving ancient people litter the countryside here, lying alongside innumerable Roman relics. Highly volcanic in prehistoric times, northern Lazio is lushly fertile and green now, with spectacular displays of wildflowers in the spring. The long-dead volcanoes also spawned a trio of lovely lakes, Bracciano, Vico and Bolsena – each crystal-clear and drinkably clean. These lakes, together with the pretty countryside and pleasant little towns typical of the area, have drawn increasing numbers of visitors over the last decade. The whole area is still completely unspoilt, however, and remains much cheaper than neighbouring Umbria or Tuscany. Pleasant little historical towns abound in la Tuscia; consider Tuscania, Tarquinia, Bolsena, and Bagnoregio. The largest settlement in the area is Viterbo, a dour medieval city with a lively young populace.
