The house was quaint. I would not however consider it pet friendly, the spiral staircase is very small and narrow and unsafe for dogs. The outdoor furniture on the back deck was very dirty and I had to clean in order to sit without getting clothes dirty. The kitchen utensils and dishes were dirty as well. I am confident we left the place much cleaner than when we arrived.

Wonderful, Quiet Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was awesome! It is so quiet at dusk and the view of the stars from the deck was breath-taking. Smith Mountain Lake was great but getting around on the small back roads was an adventure in its self. We visited the State Park, the town of Bedford has a wonderful D-Day Memorial Park, several local winery and pottery locations, westlake area and the Smith Lake Dam. The dam location was not as marked on any local map but we found it. The view and AEP learning center were werth the trip. Loved it. Downside was a new home being built next door and a deep well being installed made it very noisy during morning hours.

Cute cottage on the water, but very dirty and full of bugs.

  • 2 of 5

This property is adorable, however it was very dirty. There was a film of grime all over every surface upstairs. The table was sticky and had coffee stains all over it. The furniture smelt bad and I hated sitting on it. The dishes were disgusting and did not seemed to have been washed. Downstairs there were bugs dead and alive. Behind the bathroom and bedroom doors were dead water bugs and what appeared to be roaches. I kept my clothing zipped up in my luggage for fear of taking spiders or other bugs home with me. Unfortunately outside did not get any better. We were unable to use the out door chairs or table due to them being molded. The water smelled metallic and needs a water softener. I spent most of my time feeling dirty and the showers did little to help that. Also, the fire pit was busted and the stairs leading down to the dock had exposed nails. Again, the house is super cute and it is very unfortunate that it is not cared for better. The owners provided laundry detergent, etc. which was a nice surprise. I wish I could give this a better review and would have if it had been clean. I would not stay here again.

Great getaway cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very nice and quiet. Enjoyed our stay. This was our first trip to Smith Mountain Lake and we really liked this quaint cottage. Perfect for the two of us, would definitely rent the property again. Everything was as stated on the listing. We cooked all of our meals and found everything we needed in the kitchen. Golf and hiking were 5 to 10 minutes away.

Cute home. Wasn't clean tho and had lots of bugs!

  • 2 of 5

This is a cute home in a pretty setting. However, we were eaten alive with bug bites while sleeping. As well, the downstairs has a serious leak in the shower and was not clean when we gr there. The price was good but expected it to be clean and without bugs.

Owner's Response: Thank you for bringing to our attention the problems you had with bugs in the home. We strive to keep this a clean and neat home for our guests. We had an exterminator treat for bugs and also will insure that shower is repaired for future guests. We have also notified our cleaning crew which usually do an excellent job aobut to issues experienced here. Thanks for reading.

Children are allways welcome, however, there is a spiral staircase that leads to the terrace level. I have two children and when they were 3- yrs old, this was a safety concern for us as the railings are about 8' apart and there is nothing to 'block' them from accessing this area.
