Originally from California, made a career move to North Carolina over 15 years ago and immediately fell in love with this beautiful State and it's people. I work in the legal technology industry and my husband is an aerial photographer. Though we live in the city, we are lucky to have enough room for four rescue dogs, a cat and organic garden. We enjoy our city life but escape often to the mountains to unwind and relax.
Ellen Kinsinger purchased this house in 2008
We decided to buy our mountain farmhouse because with our busy schedules and the dogs, we didn't get to travel as much as we liked. We decided to buy something we could easily get to and escape our everyday lives. We had vacationed often in and around West Jefferson and were already in enamored with the area. We fell in love with the 'farmhouse' the moment we stepped foot on the long front porch and were embraced by the cool breezes and peace and quiet of the mountains.

Our stay at the farmhouse was absolutely amazing. It is so clean and tastefully decorated, we all loved it and we really didn't want to leave. We visited the local area especially liking Blowing Rock.
Thank you so much for a really great vacation. My parents will return to England with very happy memories of the High County in North Carolina.
With best wishes
We visited to get away from the humid, hot summer in Savannah. Ellen was great to work with. We selected the house as we could fly into the Ashe County airport in our private plane, rent a car from the local Ford dealer and avoid all the holiday traffic on the road. The house was extremely clean, had everything we wanted and was very well furnished with nice appliances and cooking supplies. We brought most of our own food and spent a lot of time in the house just enjoying the cool weather. We love to hike and did several paths around the house and in the local area. Ellen gives a lot of great information on the local establishments and makes it an easy rental.
This was the very first vacation rental property that I can give a one hundred percent satisfaction rating to. Our stay was the most pleasant experience we have ever had while vacationing. The owner of the property (Ellen) was the most responsive and accommodating person that my wife and I have ever dealt with. Everything about the property was outstanding but I personally was most impressed with the cleanliness (a pet peeve of mine, and usually my standards are not met in a vacation rental.) We also found everything we needed for entertainment and for a comfortable stay during a very rainy vacation. The owner was easy to contact and the neighbors were very helpful as well. Much to my pleasure it was very quiet and peaceful. Outside of two nice folks we met on a walk to the waterfall, the only other life we saw were deer, wild turkey, and two friendly dogs gave us a tail wag as they passed by the property. The house and property is so nicely maintained and picturesque, that it makes you want to take special care to keep it that way during your stay. I simply don't have any negatives to report.
This was our second trip to the Farmhouse, and this time we stayed a week. The weather was beautiful and leaves were almost at their peak. As we expected, the Farmhouse was delightful, beautifully furnished and well stocked with all the necessities. Ellen is great to work with, and very responsive to any questions or concerns. We hiked almost every day on trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway, with short trips to Boone and into West Jefferson. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
We had another wonderful time at the Farmhouse. It is one of our favorite places to visit. We enjoy being able to just walk down the road with our furry ones. Moses Cone just outside of Blowing Rock is worth the ride. Wonderful trails. We'll definitely be back.
Our second trip to the Parkway Farmhouse and it was a wonderful stay. Ellen is very pleasant to work with. After making the initial booking, we realized we needed to adjust the dates by a couple of days. The house was available and Ellen was very accommodating - very happy to help us. As usual, the house is decorated beautifully and has everything you need for a relaxing trip. We enjoyed the fire pit one evening and were able to explore walking in the area on this trip since the weather was warmer. The phoebe she mentioned was nesting on the front porch and being the bird lover I am, I enjoyed very much watching the couple come and go taking care of their nest. The location is wonderful and convenient to lots of fun destinations. We highly recommend.
The Parkway Farmhouse was far better than we could imagine. The house was perfect, with a great attention to detail. Anything we could have needed was provided. The place was beautifully designed and decorated. The location was both convenient and very private and peaceful. We love this part of Western NC and having this retreat made it even better.
