Built in 1933 and recently renovated, the Belmont Cottage is perfect for your vacation, visit or extended stay in Charlottesville. Just steps away from the Historic Downtown Mall and fine restaurants, the house is right down the street from the University of Virginia and nearby Monticello, Skyline Drive and many vineyards and wineries.
This unique two bedroom, one bath home is in the heart of the Belmont restaurant district and features a bright screened porch perfect for reading and relaxing as well as a private yard. Several amazing restaurants and a local latin-inspired coffee shop are a block away (the best donuts in town are two blocks away!)
You will be away from the noise of the University or the Mall scene, but within an easy and pleasant walk or trolley ride of both.
Please contact us with any questions or if you would like to make a reservation.
My wife and I met at UVA and stayed in Charlottesville after graduating and getting married. We fell in love with this adorable house shortly after we were married and it was the first home we lived in. We lived here for several years until we needed more space for our family - at which point we moved a few blocks down the street. And we couldn't bring ourselves to sell the cottage.
We were fortunate to watch the growth the Belmont neighborhood and the opening of several wonderful businesses in the neighborhood.
Daniel Strickland purchased this house in 2007
Several of our favorite restaurants, anywhere, are just across the street from this house and walking to the Farmers Market and Downtown Mall is still a favorite event.
If you love food, this house and the Belmont Neighborhood won't disappoint you.
UVA and everything else Charlottesville has to offer is easily accessible and the house makes for a great base away from the bustle of the students.
This isn't a bed-and-breakfast, but might as well be. One of our favorite coffee and breakfast spots is across the street with latin-inspired coffee, cooked breakfast and a neighborhood community vibe.
We really appreciated the care and thought you obviously put into providing such a comfortable and pleasant place to stay. We all loved it and were impressed with how well presented and equipped it is. Your clear instructions, too, made it easy to feel at home. The proximity to the neighborhood coffee shops, restaurants and shops was an added pleasure. We wished we had longer to enjoy Belmont Cottage and would certainly not hesitate to recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Charlottesville.
Awesome little cottage. Very basic but all you need for a few days. If you are over 6'0 be careful upstairs, some wild corners/angles. Super clean, great parking, walk a few hundred feet to an awesome coffee/breakfast spot (TAZA), cool brewery (CHAMPION) and $5 uber to "mall."
Problem was we didn't realize with all the info we received, no where could we find the actual address of the house!
Owner was extremely quick to respond to messages until we needed him to. To date, still have not heard back from him from email sent on our way to rental (2/10-2/12).
Map on website will not open so we had to drive around neighborhood until we found house based on photo.
Was not going to post this if owner would have responded.
We enjoyed this house. The location was great! Short walk to the downtown mall and Belmont. Short drive anywhere else. The owner was great to deal with.
My family of five stayed in this lovely house for a month, including Christmas and New Year's Eve, and it was a wonderful experience. The home is well-appointed, and the square footage is judiciously distributed without sacrificing character. I could go on for pages about the aspects of this house that we love, but I only have space to hit the highlights, so: 1.) Everything is comfortable. From the beds to the sofa to the shower, all the creature comforts are there (clean, sweet-smelling sheets, hot water and good water pressure, great gas range, etc.). 2.) Location, location, location! Steps from excellent coffee and brunch, authentic Italian, and contemporary upclass fare, the location also provides the opportunity to walk easily to the downtown mall for any manner of enjoyment (we did it in the stark winter with three little kids and had a great time; I can only imagine how much fun it would be during the other months of the year!). The house is also convenient to other Charlottesville destinations. It's within ten to fifteen minutes of all local attractions, including 29N, UVA, and Pantops (Martha Jefferson Hospital...and a drive-through Starbucks :)). 3.) The owners are awesome. Daniel answered all of our questions and was quick to respond to queries. He also offered to let us stay an extra night because of the inclement weather (snow!) on the day we were scheduled to vacate! Good people run good businesses (here is a case in point). 4.) Functionality = 100%. All of the appliances, including a washer/dryer in the basement, work beautifully. Microwave, toaster, hair dryer, coffee maker, hot iron, gas fireplace...all do their jobs impressively! 5.) Safety. It's obvious that the owners value this property and those who occupy it. Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher, deadbolts...all there. Never once did any of us feel anything other than safe during our 30-night stay in this house. 6.) The unquantifiables: e.g., the queen bedroom windows and the living room windows are propitiously placed to showcase the most incredible urban sunrise imaginable; we lost track of time some mornings just watching the sky. Also, church bells nearby sometimes sound the hours cheerfully with modest volume.
In closing, I'll say this: During my adulthood, I've lived in eight different places for varying amounts of time, and I can unreservedly attest that living in this house for a month was one of the happiest thirty nights of my life.
house is in a great location and very cute. could use some more kitchenware. owner very quick to respond to needs.
You can walk to the best restaurants and the house is so cool! Very comfortable and the back porch is adorable!
This is a cute house in a great location. But beware....no central AC. The noise from the window units is variable and sleep disruptive. Also, screened porch in disrepair so can't sit out there without the company of mosquitoes. Would recommend in cooler months.
Nearby locations include the Historic Downtown Mall, University of Virginia, Monticello / Ash-lawn Highland, Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge parkway, and National Ground Intelligence. Belmont cottage provides easy access to UVA and The Grounds – just 2 miles down the road or use the convenient trolley that stops just a short walk from the house. This is a great place to stay for graduations, University events or visiting parents, teachers or students. Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall is just down the street. A short walk brings you to the city’s premier shopping, dining and cultural center. The Mall features several fine restaurants, pizza parlors, and sandwich shops as well as many boutiques, art galleries and more. The house is located across the street from the restaurant district of the Belmont neighborhood offering convenient access to food, coffee and fine dining. Restaurants include La Taza, Belmont BBQ, The Local, Mas Tapas, Tavola Italian and Bel Rio.
