Waterside, where the refreshing water of Wilson Lake is out the front door and the sunsets are beautiful. Easy water access and large lawn provide outside activity area for families and their pets. Multiple piers provide space for sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, fishing and boating all at once. Enjoy our canoe to fish and explorer the area or bring your boat for full lake access. Waterside's game room, covered porch and covered BBQ mean activities don't stop even if a few rain drops appear now and then. Secure wireless high-speed Internet access provides access for both web browsing and Internet TV whether you are inside and outside the house.
Waterside is just 10 minutes for the ''Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Trail - Shoals Golf Club'' and 20 minutes to many more attractions. Take a local walk/run or go just 10 minutes to a paved and maintained 5 mile birding/walking trail.
The Mueller/Rice family has been a part of the Quad-Cities and the Wilson Lake Shores community since the early 1930s. Five generations of our family plus guests galore have enjoyed this serene and beautiful lakeside cottage we call Waterside. As our family grew, Waterside expanded from a small intimate cottage to a two floor, three bedroom home that is away from the maddening crowds and offers beautiful views from sunrise to sunset. We have enjoyed spending many evenings on the patio with a grilled dinner after a day on and in the water.
Robert Rice purchased this house in 1931
Wilson Lake Shores was established when there was discussion of Ford Motor Company purchasing Wilson Hydroelectric Dam in the early 1900's and building a new center of car production in the south. That never occurred but Wilson Lake, which is a special lake on the Tennessee River chain, has become a beautiful place enjoy lake living is all its aspects. Our cottage, Waterside, is on the south shore of the river and offers easy water access and a location with open views and protection from storms and rougher water. The lake bottom at our cottage is mostly small rocks so muddy water and the water depth varies to provide greater enjoyment.
Beautiful cottage tucked back in a nice quiet cut. This is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to get away from life and just enjoy nature at its finest. Beautiful sunsets that we enjoyed while we were grilling out every night. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice getaway.
We had a wonderful stay at Waterside and enjoyed the vintage charm. Waterside had all the amenities we wanted/ needed from corkscrews to coffee filters. The cottage is a short drive to many historical attractions and local restaurants. We enjoyed spending time in the cities of Florence and Muscle Shoals during the day and then relaxing in privacy on the patio overlooking the lake in the evening. The cottage was clean, the mattresses were comfortable and the communication with the owner was great. We would stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area.
Waterside is a charming cottage with an old time feel. We stayed there for a week. There is plenty of parking, with space for cars and boat trailers. Boat ramps are near by and there is a good dock for tieing a boat. The home is very clean and well stocked. The yard is large with lots of trees and the view of Wilson lake is beautiful. When not on our boat, we spent most of our time on the patio, which has a neat stone outdoor grill. The owner manager was easy to work with and very helpful. Wilson lake is beautiful and the fishing was good. We enjoyed our stay, and recommend Waterside as a comfortable and worry free place to stay when visiting Wilson Lake.
A wonderful property that has the look and feel of a "traditional" summer cottage. My business partner (from NYC) and I (from Chicago) spent the week at Waterside. He and I both grew up around water in the 60's and we were both delighted that this spot reminded us of our childhood.
On the whole, Waterside's wood floors have that delightfully well-worn creak from all the parents and kids that have walked across it in years prior. It has period furniture (a few more light fixtures might be helpful) and bedding that is functional, comfortable, and clean. Warerside has a few electronics/wifi for rainy days (and a fine ping pong table for traditionalists) or online communication with the outside world.
It is what cottages used to be built for. A nice place to retire to after being out on the water or down on the pier or walking around the surrounding woods and fields.
The kitchen is well equipped with gadgetry and the laundry room has more stain remedies and detergent for mishaps than you can possibly imagine.
We loved Waterside as much for what it is not as for what it is. What it is, is a home beautifully situated on a lovely, peaceful inlet with neighbor homes well away. And while it does have TV, Wifi, and a DVD player, just to the left is a big picture window with a view that suggests that being outside is better. Wasn't that the whole point of a traditional vacation property?
Lastly, the property owner and manager could not have been nicer or more accommodating. I left some clothing behind and they had it sent off and back to me in no time.
Both he and I would happily return here.
This place is somewhere special if you want to kick back and relax, the tranquility and views make Waterside an ideal location to escape to. Very convenient for the RTJ trail at the Shoals along with Muscle Shoals ( Fame Studios). Rob could not have been more helpful and although our stay was short he made sure it was a great success. The house has all the facilities you need but still retains a homely feel and you can tell it is a family retreat primarily so don't expect a chic modern hotel! Waking up to the view from the master bedroom across the lake is a wonderful memory.
I hope I can return in the future both to play more golf but especially to enjoy Waterside.
This home is as charming as it can be. We just returned from spending a week here. The house is well-stocked with everything you needed to stay there, except of course, food. We especially enjoyed the sunsets. The pictures really do catch how beautiful they are.
We hope to stay again and again!
