Overview

About the property

A very cute cabin, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

The Little Red Cabin is a great property for families and friends to gather. The cabin's securely fenced yard is beautifully wooded, play horseshoes, read a book, play games or hang out in the hammock on the giant deck. Its so nice to relax with a glass of wine and watch the squirrels, bunnies and birds. At night the stars are brilliant. The deck also has a big table with an umbrella and a barbecue. The cabin's kitchen has everything you would ever need. The queen bed is extremely comfortable. The birds hang out at the bird feeders in the front yard, its fun to watch them from the dining table or the couch by the fireplace. The cement driveway is flat, there are no stairs to the front door, it's easy access. If you feel like exercise, there is a one mile fairly flat loop to walk from the cabin, or if you are looking for more strenuous walks there are lots of hills to walk in the area. The cabin has lilacs blooming in the spring, flowers in the summer. The cabin is very private because it is surrounded by trees, yet it is very easy to get to by car. The Little Red Cabin is on a well maintained road that is plowed when it snows.

The cabin is used by our family and friends often, therefore it does not feel like other rentals that are often missing things that you need. It is very complete and personal. I decorate for the seasons and holidays. Our goal is for it to have the feeling of it is 'your little red cabin'.

The Little Red Cabin is Wonderful !! Can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

We are so glad we picked the Little Red Cabin for our getaway. I read descriptions, reviews, saw photos of dozens of mountain cabins - many sounded really nice. But I kept coming back to The Little Red Cabin listing -- and am so glad I did!

The first thing (besides the cute name) that got my attention was "level entry" and "dog-friendly." We did not want to walk up and down stairs to get into a cabin. The cabin was easy to find and only 1.5 miles from town. From the moment we walked into the cabin, we felt right at home. Lynn, the owner, goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and at home.

The inside is cozy with a fireplace - Lynn provided wood. We didn't use the fireplace, but next time we might. The stack of wood provided was a thoughtful touch. We spent most of our time in the Den. Lynn had just purchased a new flatscreen TV (about 49" I think). She put a bow on it and said she got it because I said we like to watch TV and wanted one that I could plug my Fire Stick into to get Amazon and Netflix. The bedroom flatscreen would work for that, but the new larger flat screen in the Den was wonderful! The cabin has Direct TV and wifi. WiFi was fast enough to watch Netflix HD (via my Fire Stick).

Lynn provided everything you could possibly want - and more! All kitchen things - coffee maker (even provided ground coffee!), pots, pans, microwave, even some condiments - ketchup, mustard, mayo. She had a large basket full of snacks for us - crackers, cookies, chips. Even had a jar full of dog treats for our dog. There was a water dish (with water) and food dish for our dog in the Den area and a water dish out on the large deck. Lynn even provided towels for our dog to wipe him down if he got wet or dirty and sheets to put on the furniture if our dog got on furniture - which he doesn't.

The deck also sold me when trying to choose a cabin, and it did not disappoint. It is a large deck overlooking the trees. You feel secluded the way the neighbors' cabins are situated. Lynn's cabin is next door - not really a cabin but a very nice house. We never saw her but did meet her lovely dog through the adjoining fence. Our Doberman seemed to like her dog, Bodie (our dog is named Brodie) and liked exploring the large fenced backyard. You can get to the backyard down steps from the deck or down the side of the house (no steps).

We will definitely come back - it will feel like coming home. :-)

I could keep writing but am limited to # of characters.

Little Red Cabin Was a Gem of a Find

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to get out of LA for a couple of days and spend some time in the cold and snowy Idyllwild mountains. Unfortunately, it wasn't cold or snowy during our late January trip, but the excellent accommodations made up for the lack of desired winter weather. The little red cabin has all the amenities to make a couple and their large dog feel extremely welcome and content.

Super clean, quiet, comfortable and just the right size for the three of us. Another huge perk was the big, completely fenced backyard that allowed our dog to wander free and explore at will. Couldn't have asked for a better set up, and certainly look forward to a return visit.

Sweet Little Red Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I went with my dogs for a little vacation. There is a wonderful fully fenced yard, a deck for them (and me) to hang out on. When you arrive there is already fresh water in the dishes. There are snacks for the humans. Lynn provides sheets and towels specifically for the dogs, I always bring a couple myself once I know what the dogs will want to "claim". There is carpet and upholstered furnishings so clean up and control is important. The weekend I was there we had a warm Friday then rain, sleet, and snow! The house heater is quite efficient but the hidden gem is the wall heater in the bathroom!! There is nothing better after being cold than to have a hot shower in a room with a wall heater. There is everything you need for building and maintaining a fire...use both gloves! The couch in that room just begs for a body to stretch out on in it in front of the fire and read. It was too chilly to test out the hammock, maybe if we go back in the warmer weather. There is an AC unit in the wall and ceiling fans for those days. There are flashlights available and let me tell you, it does get dark out here. The front of the house is open to the road and subject to "mountain rush hour" then it is pretty quiet and peaceful. Lynn lives right next door and their dog Brodie will come and check you out. They have Direct TV and games, movies but I am there for the dogs. Be aware that if there is "weather" the pine cones will drop on the house. My black dog who normally does not sleep with me jumps in the bed anytime there is something scary like that ;-). You have backpacks, park passes, umbrellas, anything you might need. There is a lot to do in the area but we just holed up for the whole weekend, it was great.

Owner's Response: What a sweet review, thank you! Thats funny your black dog was scared by the pine cones on the roof. You can hear squirrels running across the roof too. Maybe the squirrels were laying low because it was cold and snowy. And yes always wear both fireplace gloves, that stove gets hot. Glad you had a good time, next time I will meet you. Lynn

Peaceful and relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were beyond happy with our stay at The Little Red Cabin. The cabin is well-stocked and completely relaxing. We had multiple fires and enjoyed time inside the cabin and outside on the deck. Our dog adored the yard, and I loved laying in the hammock - perfect R&R weekend retreat. Although we did venture into town and on a few hikes, we were also content to spend a lot of time in the cabin. I loved all of the personal touches - no detail was overlooked. We will definitely be back.

Nice location, huge yard and deck. Very roomy with larger living space than we expected. Fully fenced yard with steel, wood and chicken wire. Our dog had lots of fun running around. 1.5 miles to town about 6 min drive.

Our dog loves coming too. Lynn makes sure everything is just perfect. This cozy cabin is the perfect retreat from out busy lives. We especially love all the Christmas decorations when we come up during the holidays. We look forward to making many more wonderful memories at the Little Red Cabin.

About Lynn Henninger

I have lived in Idyllwild for 50 years. My husband, Doug and I have five children, and eight grandchildren. My parents, my brother and his wife all live in Idyllwild. My sister has a vacation home in Fern Valley. We are all very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Lynn Henninger purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Lynn Henninger chose Idyllwild

We bought the Little Red Cabin because our family was getting so large that we needed more space when we all get together. The grandkids love to come up and play in the back yard and go on hikes. Their favorite store is the Candy Cupboard located in the middle of Idyllwild and the park where our town has summer concerts and there is a wonderful park for the kids to play.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin has the best deck! If you are a dog lover you can relax on the deck while your dog explores the huge fenced yard. We love to play horseshoes at the cabin. With the big deck overlooking the horseshoe court everyone can watch. Because we have lived in Idyllwild for so long if you need any information on what is going on or how to get somewhere we are able to help. The cabin is minutes from the hiking trails, a mile and a half from the center of town and less than a mile from the Idyllwild Arts Foundation.
