Not exactly as advertised

  • 2 of 5

We arrived at the house and it is exactly as pictured in the ad. It's a beautiful house that is tastefully decorated. It is very close to all of the amenities - 3-5 minutes drive to the pools and beaches. Arrowhead is a lovely community, all pools and beaches were well maintained and clean. The lifeguards were super friendly - it was a lovely location and while I would love to return to Arrowhead I will not return to this house.

Unfortunately, there were many issues during our stay. The front door had a sharp metal edge at the bottom of the door which cut my foot as I walked into the house and it grazed my foot. The cut was about an inch long but fortunately not all that deep. I did take a picture of the door and emailed it to the property manager and all I got in return was a note stating he would let the owners know - no apology at all.

When we arrived we found that some of the dishes we used had to be rewashed as they were put away with a greasy film. There were also frying pans which were filthy and damaged. There didn't need washing they needed new frying pans - which I purchased for my family. I found this extremely surprising because in the contract I was sent it specifically mentioned cleaning all pots and pans as well as the grill and I found these unusable frying pans and filthy grill.

The appliances were rather old and were not optimal - the dishwasher did not wash well and after we realized we had to wash everything by hand again we just stopped using it. The washer takes an excessively long time to run and on the final day when all the sheets and towels have to be washed it took well over 2 hours. Considering there is a high cleaning fee I can't understand why we are responsible for the sheets and towel cleaning. Back to the cleaning fee - the cleaning of the house is only superficial. We dropped some coins in the couch and when we reached in to retrieve them we found bottle caps, wrappers and large hair dust balls between the cushions.

Finally, to add insult to injury, if you want your security deposit back be prepared to wait. All other rentals automatically return your deposit to the credit card you used to pay. For some reason, with this Remax Vendor they need to "process" your deposit and they send you a check... Which took six weeks to receive.

Owner's Response: As with most rental homes, pots and pans and dishes are generally cleaned by the renters and obviously, the renters previous to this stay did not do a great job. We will add checking of dishes to our list of items to be checked by the cleaning folks and hopefully catch this issue going forward. We certainly agree that pots and pans need to be in good shape, but as we have not heard otherwise, we assume that the pots & pans at this home were acceptable - now we know better and will ask the owner to replace them to eliminate this issue going forward. Cleaning the sheets & towels are sometimes an issue when a wash load is overloaded which is the issue in many cases as time is limited to get this done. The same issue happens with the dryer, so we ask folks NOT to overload as it actually slows everything down. Our renters always have the option of bringing their own linens as well. We do send a regular check back to our renters for their security deposit as it actually saves costs. Most credit card companies charge around 2.5% and sending a check eliminates that cost. As for timing, this particular renter had a departure date of 8/6 and the security deposit check was mailed on 8/19. That does't seem to calculate to six weeks! We do want our renters to give us feedback, good or bad so if we need to, we can modify what we do and how we do it to make a more enjoyable experience for our renters.

Nice and isolated

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely, roomy, comfortable house surrounded by woods in an isolated community as advertised. Thankfully it wasn't too cold when we arrived as the house was completely unheated on arrival. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of basics and the beds were comfortable. However plan to bring hand soap and toilet paper as those are very limited. There was plenty of cleaning supplies which you will need if you want the pristine chalet they advertise. Also, plan to spend at least 4 hours on the final day in order to wash, dry, and fold all the sheets and towels.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house during the Thanksgiving break and had an amazing time. The house was in a pristine condition upon our arrival and had everything that we needed. Love the open floor plan and modern decor. The house did take about a day to get fully warm, so an extra fleece and the use of fireplace did help a lot during the 1st day. The property manager was on top of things at all time and was extremely professional. Overall, it was the loveliest house we have ever rented and we would LOVE to come back again. Thank you so much!

Fall Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great weekend at this cozy chalet. It was very clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook a big family dinner to fun games in the closet to bring you back to your childhood! We even had a few glimpses of deer running right in the yard.

it was also a short (25min) drive to the quaint town of Jim Thorpe, Mount Airy lodge and great shopping at the outlets. Also, stopped by the pocono cheesecake shop! Delicious!

The property manager, Frank was outstanding. He provided all the information plus much more for our stay. I would definately recommend this property and would absolutely stay here again!!

The house over all was very nice. What would have made the experience the best it could be is IF the heat was turned on and the stairs were shoveled before our arrival. We pulled up to the house and the stairs have 2 feet of snow on them and no shovel is to be found. We have tons of items to bring in and having the stairs be covered and icy was not convenient. Then we enter the house and it's literally 11 degrees. It took nearly the next 24 hours to warm up. The fireplace wasn't working and if my brother wasn't an electrician we would have never been able to turn it on at all. The main TV in the living room was missing a remote so anytime we needed to change the channel we had to stand at the box the entire time and go through the channels by hand. The sheets and towels had to be put on ourselves and thats assuming the group before us had washed them before us using them. We had to do laundry the day we left and the dryer took nearly 2 hours to dry - we were basically waiting for them to dry in order to leave. Why we pay a cleaning fee is beyond me since we had to do the towels and sheets ourselves. Most other homes I've stayed at you pile the towels and sheets when you leave THEN the cleaning people do the laundry for you. Overall, it was convenient for what we needed it for but not necessarily a relaxing experience as there were so many things we needed to worry about.

Owner's Response: During the winter time, most rentals are on the weekends. The housekeeper is instructed to reduce the heat as there will not be anyone at the home until the following weekend. This helps cut costs and helps keep the rental price low! It does take a while to get the house warm! As we are located in the Pocono Mountains, it snows ---A LOT! We contract a plowing service to clear the driveway to allow our renters to get to the house, but they don’t always get to the stairs! In this case, someone “lifted” the snow shovel which make the problem worse! A new shovel was delivered the very next morning. This is the 1st that we heard about the fireplace! We have a person in the area that services our fireplaces and could have sent him to handle the fireplace had we known. We did have him service the unit this past week (after reading your comments!). We provide our guests with the option for their benefit to either bring their own linens and avoid washing or use the linens provided if they are able to wash them. We continue to learn from our renters and want to provide the best experience possible. We have reached out to remedy the situation and hope to have you back with us again.
