The living room features 2 full sized couches, 4 swivel chairs to entertain or just to lounge your day away with a good book or watch the 46 in flat screen TV with cable. I am the founder and CEO of a media advertising company. I bought my Kona home as a second home to escape from the mainland's hustle and bustle.
Lauren McNew purchased this house in 2007
I looked at other homes before I bought this one, but I didn't care for the heat and humidity of the beach areas. Being at a high elevation, you can open your windows year-round and enjoy the fresh Hawaiian breezes. I also loved the spaciousness of this home and the large one-acre lot!
With so much open space surrounding my home and few neighbors, there is a tranquility here and a 'Four Seasons resort' feeling up on the hill above everything. It seems like you're far removed from everything, but everything is close by at your fingertips, just a short drive away when you want anything. Staying here is the best of both worlds! ~Hal
We just got home from our second stay in the Huelani house, and it was as fantastic as the first! Our whole family cycled through in weekly increments and we had a great time with all of them in this beautiful place. Vicki was just as helpful and friendly as always. The house is very well stocked with everything we needed, including kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and even beach and snorkeling gear.
It appears we have made this into a great habit!
We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Vicki was friendly, gracious, and helpful from prior to booking right up through our visit. Mahalo! The house is spacious for friends and family, very clean, and the whole property is wonderfully private and homey. The hot tub grotto is beautiful. The pool is cold in February! The view is terrific from above the beaches and town and still the drive to everything is short. So many great beaches just 10-30 minutes drive, we could visit a new one everyday. Even Volcano National Park and sites on the other coast are just a couple of hours drive. There are plenty of supplies from beach towels, pool toys, boogie boards and snorkeling gear to pantry items and condiments. A trip to Costco and we had everything we needed to enjoy meals "at home" and pack lunches for our outings. So many things to do - just check the provided guidebook - or sit back and enjoy the island breezes. The malasadas at Tex drive-in Honokaa are worth the drive! A month was super relaxing and laid-back but at the same time too short. We could have stayed! Friends who visited were impressed and are planning to come back with their family.
We wanted a large property near Kailua to have a family vacation with our three adult children, their spouses, and children. Huelani was perfect. The place is stunning inside and out. A beautiful view of the ocean is perfect for the almost mandatory sunset watching. The pool is a great place to cool off after a morning at the beach. Being at about 1500 feet elevation, it's cooler than the coast and in the afternoon, we often had clouds come over to help cool it further. It's about 6 miles from KOA and 5 miles from Kailua just off the rim road, well positioned to head North to Waimea or Hawi or South to Kahalu'u beach or further South to South Point. We had rain a few afternoons and sitting in the secluded hot tub during a rainstorm was a treat. Be sure to go through the entire house before buying anything (beach gear, toddler accommodations, etc.) as previous guests have bought and left many useful items. Vicki was fantastic to deal with; just simply a pleasure, always helpful.
We recently moved to the mainland after 45 years in Hawaii (Oahu) and wanted to get back for a summer vacation and to fish half a dozen tournaments. We caught yellowfin tuna, wahoo, albacore, and even a swordfish so we had our fill of fresh fish. The fact that the house had 3 king master bedrooms and very comfortable beds was appreciated by our guests. Kona can be very hot, but at an altitude of 3000' the temperature was perfect day and night. We loved the spa built into a lava tube with a waterfall/stream water feature. The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. We loved waking up to ocean views and swaying palm trees. In addition to fishing we golfed, scuba dived and snorkled, hiked on various trails and the Volcano national park, did an ATV trip, played ladder golf on the lawn and dined at some great restaurants when we weren't cooking at home. Vicki was wonderful and honestly the best property manager we have ever worked with.
My family and I had a truly amazing experience at Huelani. The house is lovely, the grounds are breathtaking, and the care and consideration we received from Vicki were beyond all expectations. It was our home for a month and gave us the opportunity to experience life on the Big Island in a way that no resort could provide.
I hope to return again sometime soon!!
I spent my childhood in Kona. our family could not have experienced a better home on the island. The home speaks for itself, the pleasant surprise was in how fabulous the home manager was. From preparations for our visit throughout the entire stay she was extremely helpful and responsive.
Truly exceeded our expectations!
