Overview

About the property

Rent the main house with 4 bedrooms with or without the garage apartment.

Stone Home Ranch is your exceptional country getaway, sitting high on the craggy cliffs of the Pedernales River, with stunning views of the Texas Hill Country. The main house has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths that can be booked alone when your group needs beds for 10 or less, also we have a casita (garage apartment ) with 2 queen beds and a full bath that can be booked when you need the extra room or it is paid for when you book 14 guest. So 10 guest or less is the base price, additional price for extra guest, when 4 extra guest are paid, then the casita is paid for, if you have 12 guest you have the option of them staying in the house or for additional fee you can request the casita. I do this to allow for the smaller groups at a lower price.

** Outdoor security cameras on the property

** ECheck is preferred payment method, please.

Inside Stone Home-

Our Great Room, features a dramatic fireplace that touches the top of the 20-foot vaulted ceilings.

Dinnertime is a breeze in our remodeled kitchen, there is plenty of workroom for multiple cooks to work together, with a fully stocked kitchen. The granite countertops, new stainless steel appliances and center island make cooking enjoyable.

There’s plenty of dining space for your whole group, including an 8-person dining table, a breakfast nook for 6 in the kitchen, and 2 more bar stools at the kitchen island. Not to mention a variety of outdoor sitting and dining nooks, including patio dining on the upper veranda and a riverfront picnic table, to name just two.

The master suite has four-poster, Ralph Lauren king-sized bed, 40” flat screen and sliding glass doors opening to a private patio. The attached bathroom has a 2-person tub, a double sink and a big walk-in shower.

Two guest bedrooms have queen-sized beds in each. A third bedroom has a queen-sized bed plus two twin beds (great for families with young kids).

Casita, (garage apartment) has 2 queen-sized beds in the same room, as well as a full bath.

NOTE : garage apartment is priced as mentioned above

Get to the river by the staircase (130 stairs…but they’re worth it!). Rent one of our kayaks out on the calm waters of the Pedernales or swim or go fishing. On a cool evening, light a fire in the riverfront fire pit and watch the stars twinkle on the water.

Our Location is Spicewood, Texas (birthplace of Willie Nelson!) , with 4 nearby wineries, a brewery, Apis one of Austin’s top 10 restaurants, Zip line at Cypress Valley Canopy Tours, Krause Springs, Reimers Ranch preserve, golfing, rent a boat at Briarcliff Marina and explore beautiful Lake Travis. Overwhelmed with options? Treat yourself to the tranquility offered at the ranch and never leave.

About Wendy Rivers

I am a mother of 6 amazing adult children, a daughter, 2 sets of identical twin sons, and another son. I also have been blessed with 2 grandbabies over the past years, they are a joy. Pets are a big part of my life and my children's lives, we all love hiking and being in the great outdoors.

Wendy Rivers purchased this chateau / country house in 2005

Why Wendy Rivers chose Spicewood

Stone Home Ranch was our primary home for over 5 , years then again 2012/13. After my youngest son was accepted in a local boarding school leaving me an empty nest, I have decided to share our home once again with guest and move into downtown Austin to experience the city life.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

I enjoy the tranquility, the wildlife, the views are breathtaking, home is very comfortable, hiking or taking walks, kayaking at the river, and the local food and music.

Stone Home Ranch is what I call 'My Slice of Heaven', it is truly magical.

Guestbook comments from the owner

wendy, i am so glad we found you and your beautiful house. the sisters started talking about santa fe next year, but then all agreed that we might want to come back to Stone Home Ranch (hopefully the thread all over the dining room rug will not hurt our chances).

We loved the space, the river the kayaks, and the chance to just be sisters. we came from three locations, california, wisconsin and florida. the girls trip is our week to just be sisters and bond with no family around. (we did have a whopper of a fight one

day and it was wonderful) we barely left the house as im sure willy must have told you.

then there were brewster and the kittys. we loved having animals around. we all miss our own pets when we travel, so having the resident furry friends was a huge plus.

here is what we made. 4 quilt tops, 1 tree skirt, one computer bag, one window seat bench cover, 90 snappy-ass bags, 17 aprons, 1 reel bag, 22 luggage tags, 5 headbands, 3 double clutches for sunglasses and reading glasses, 8 cloth shopping bags, a bathrobe, and that might

be it. it was a total sweatshop, and a good percentage of what we made goes to charities. aint that special. little do some of them know that we took regular gin and tonic breaks. love the porch, and the horses too.

willy put roses on our dashboard, so when we finally loaded and pulled out at 5 am this morning, we all had a wonderful goodbye rose to enjoy.

what a great week, thanks so much peeker

Top quality river home and property in Texas hill country

  • 5 of 5

Home is well appointed and well cared for. Outdoor spaces are inviting and where we spent most of our time. Views across the Pedernales river are excellent. House is several flights of stairs above the river. Riverside area has table, chairs, hammock, etc.

Everyone in our family group thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Wonderful Quiet Riverside Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We came to the house for our Father in Laws 65th Birthday and for the F1 races in Austin. We had 2 couples coming in from Guadalajara, Mexico and the rest from The Woodlands. We had 9 Adults and one toddler and the house was perfect for us. The house had everything we needed and was furnished and decorated beautifully. Really made us feel at home the whole weekend. The bedrooms were situated nicely and the spare bath with its own shower made getting ready in the mornings a breeze even with so may people. The views were gorgeous. We watched the sunrise and set over the river and canyon which was beautiful. The area near the river was great. It made for relaxing evenings having drinks and snacks. We grilled for dinner one night and had our meal on the patio which was wonderful. Then we went down to the river for a fire and smores. Made for a great night. Really enjoyed the Hill Country feel of the place. It was a bit far from town but once we knew that it wasn't a big deal. And the trek from the house to the river side took quite a few steps but was worth it. We just planned our trips accordingly. Our only big complaint was that we didn't have more time to spend there at the house and relax! We will definitely be returning for a week or so with the whole family so we can have more time on the property and truly get to enjoy it. Thanks for having us in your wonderful home.

We had three couples together for a weekend of relaxing, great food, wine and sunning by the river. This was a perfect place for a friend reunion.

A great escape

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from Stone Home Ranch where our group of friends who went to school from kindergarten or second grade through high school got together to talk over old times, current activities, and future plans. We found the perfect venue in Stone Home Ranch. Beautiful house and Hill country views, with plenty of space for the ten of us. Upon arrival we found the house very clean and welcoming, and any questions were answered by the owner's son. We are already talking about gathering there again. Thank you, Wendy and Colby. As a side note, we drove to Spicewood Winery for a wonderful and informative tasting, and I recommend that to future guests of Stone Home.

Beautiful property, but house is not 5-star

  • 3 of 5

We spent a long weekend at this house in September 2017 with some friends from overseas. I should start by saying that it was obvious that this house has been loved by the family that owns it, and it may be that things are simply overlooked when you own a second or third holiday property that you visit with your family.

But, upon arriving at the house it appeared to all of us that the house had not been properly tended to in some time. There were bugs, dirt and cobwebs around the front door, on all windows, cobwebs inside in several locations, dirt in one of the beds, numerous light bulbs out in most living areas, no batteries in some of the remotes, and other signs of neglect such as tearing chair seats on the outdoor patios and broken outdoor fixtures. We also had the surprise of finding two live scorpions and a gigantic centipede inside the house. There were so many things, we felt it wasn't worth our time to contact the owner.

While the kitchen was well appointed, several of the appliances had explicit instructions stating things like: "it might not seem like the dishwasher is working", and "the trash compactor makes a funny sound" etc.

The wi-fi was weak at the best of times, and while we were not there to be on screens, a work need did arise during our time and I was unable to attend to it because of the slow speed.

We were also disappointed to find that the one and only BBQ at the property was an old, charcoal grill as there were conflicting reports on the site about what was available. We were unable to grill due to the weather but probably wouldn't have anyway based on the condition of the BBQ.

Pros:

Peaceful property with a nice view

Large enough for two families to spread out comfortably

Nice fireplace in living room

Kitchen well appointed

Quick response by owner to all enquiries

Cons:

Dirty and unkempt

No properly covered outside area to enjoy the outlook during rain or heat

River access (swimming) is difficult for young children (ages 8+)

Slow wi-fi

Overpriced for state and cleanliness of home

No propane gas grill...in Texas!

Disappointed that at this price point they want you to pay more for the kayaks just sitting down by the water

Overall, for a house that charges this much it should have been in cleaner, much better, bug-free shape with more amenities - gas grill, free kayaks, speedier wi-fi, etc. If we had expected a three star house and paid a few hundred dollars less a night, we would have been satisfied.
