Gaylord House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 1 bath, sleeps 8-9

Now renting for fall and winter, by the week or single nights. Gorgeous colors abound throughout our 60 acres, and we are centrally located for all types of hunters, and are adjacent to acres of state land. The Wild Winds offers many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake or our private pond in the woods. Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

The Wild Winds is a winter wonderland! Snowmobile trails start at the top of our driveway (we have room to park snowmobile trailers). Cross-country ski on our private trails, or visit groomed county trails only a couple of miles away. Ski downhill courses such as Treetops or Boyne Mountain, each only about half an hour away. Or simply enjoy the pristine beauty of our acres of pine forest in their winter frosting!

We allow well-behaved dogs for a small fee, and also charge a $60 cleaning fee.

This log home, "Honeymoon" cabin, has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-9 people.

Or consider our other vacation rental at the Wild Winds: "Junior," has 3 bedrooms (plus fold-out queen) sleeps 10-12, and it has a fireplace! ( #368462ha)

The log homes are right on Wequas Lake, and our beautiful private lake is just a short walk into the woods.

Both homes come equipped with satellite TV, washer, dryer, full kitchen and 1 bath. The price is the same for either log home: the basic rate is $620/wk or $120/night, and prime dates are $750/wk or $145/night.

Like camping, only much, much better.

Very nice log cabin. Kitchen has all the dishes, pots and utensils you need, plus a microwave and coffee pot. There is even a washer/dryer in the cabin! The beds were quite comfortable. Everything is well maintained. Access to the lake is a short walk down a slight hill. The "beach" area is quite small. The beach and fire pit are actually shared with 2 other cabins, which I hadn't expected, and would be quite crowded if all cabins were occupied and everyone was at the beach. The trails are beautiful. Rocco, the owner, is extremely nice. There is plenty of room near the cabin for games of catch, frisbee, corn hole, etc. Plenty of room for family togetherness or quiet time for reading, etc. It is also close to shopping. There is absolutely NO cell reception at the cabin unless you have ATT, which none of us did. We all loved the woods and trails. It was a truly wonderful vacation.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you had such a great time! Please come back soon!! It's true the beach was smaller than usual this summer, because all of Northern Michigan's lakes hit their high-water mark this year. Typically, the water recedes bit by bit over a ten-year period, then starts "growing" again for another ten years. (That has been the pattern in the sixty-five years we have been here.) So this summer we had a little more lake and a little less beach! Of the four homes at the Wild Winds, only two are vacation log homes. So generally the facilities (four boats, fire pit, beach on Wequas Lake, over 70 acres of trails, canoe and private lake in the woods, etc.) are only used by one or two families at most. That keeps things from getting too crowded. Each vacation home has its own grill, and its own deck or picnic area. Thanks again for visiting, and for your kind review!

Nice roomy cabin with a decent view but wasn't aware that the property was shared with other renters

  • 4 of 5

The cabin did the job. Nothing fancy but worked well and worth the price. The only downside was that I wasn't aware that the property (yard) /firepit /and lake equipment was shared with up to 3 other cabins. Luckily there was only one other family that was renting a different cabin at the time and they were really nice and didn't get in the way of our enjoyment. Next time I will look for a more private cabin rental but a big group renting all the cabins would be perfect.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a good time! To be clear, there are two vacation rental log homes at the Wild Winds ( 298533 and 368462). The other two homes here have "permanent" occupants and we are not likely to get in the way of your enjoyment. It has worked quite well over the years to have to have only one or two vacationing families at a time enjoy the facilities.

Perfect get away!

  • 5 of 5

After the initial shock upon arrival of no cell reception, we decided to make the most of it. This was a perfect opportunity to leave our phones at the cabin and just spend time with each other. The cabin has a great kitchen (the stove had a few quirks, but we mostly used the grill). The bathroom had lots of towels, and having a washer and dryer was so convenient! The bedrooms were really nice, though I wish there were fans in there on the really hot nights. The location was great. The big lake was a lot of fun for our daughter to fish at, and the lakes in the woods had lots of small fish that were biting like crazy. The mosquitos are pretty bad at the small private lakes so we only went there twice. The big lake had a bunch of boats and life jackets, and since we didn't keep our cell phones glued to our hands, fishing required us to actually talk to each other.... Lol. My daughter and the dogs spent hours splashing around in the lake. She built sand castles and chased minnows, the dogs chased tennis balls out and absolutely exhausted themselves.

This place is only about an hour from Mack, so we spent a day up there sampling fudge and seeing the butterfly house. This cabin is really close to restaurants (gobblers was amazing), the elk viewing (definitely go during feeding time if you have kids!), and Walmart, Meijer, etc. We spent another day at the county beach, where we rented a pontoon boat and went fishing, then built sand castles and got thoroughly burned while eating ice cream..... It was great! We had so much fun, I would highly recommend this cabin!

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great time! (By the way, AT&T cell service works fine out here in the woods, but other cell service can be spotty. Everything works in town, though) The Wild Winds is beautiful, quiet spot in Nature, but only a few minutes from town and centrally located for wonderful day trips. Come back soon!

Classic "UP NORTH" Vacation

  • 4 of 5

This is everything we remembered about vacationing in the upper Lower Penninsula! The Wild Winds is a log home nestled in the woods with a lovely view of the lake. There was plenty of space for our group of 6 adults, even our technically savvy 10 year old was pleased with the accommodation. The house is rustic, but still had satellite TV. We look forward to staying again.

Family Getaway with the dogs

  • 5 of 5

Rokko was very accommodating and wonderful. The cabin has 4 bedrooms that are comfy, the cabin is older but nice & clean. Its perfect for anyone wanting to hike, fish, or relax. There are private lakes were you can take the paddle boat, row boat, or canoe out to relax or fish for northern pike. Their are nature trails that are well maintained on and off the property with areas for children and pets to run around.

Rokko is pet friendly and allowed us to bring our dogs along with kennels. They got to swim, play, and chase squirrels with no issues with brush and ticks. I did not see any bugs or ticks at all!

You are at a great location, 5 minute drive from downtown Gaylord but still isolated from it all. If it is rainy, you have cable TV and board games. I had such a great time and I would highly recommend this cabin for the location, price, and child & dog friendly!
