Our large private garden cottage is located just 50 steps away from Kailua Beach. The lush garden setting offers a large air conditioned bedroom that sleeps 4 (queen size bed and 2 twin beds), with a screened in lanai (sunroom) that sleeps two more.
Exquisitely furnished with antiques and aloha, our cottage offers you the Hawaii that few will see. This 1000 sq.foot cottage embodies the type of living that Hawai'i is known for. From the screened in lanai (patio), to an open garden area just right to bar-b-que, our cottage offers island living at it's best. Famlies with children enjoy a large yard and the closeness of the beach.
Beach amenities available at no extra charge: Boogie boards, sand toys, beach towels, and sand chairs. Kailua Beach Vacation Cottage provides a little bit more so you can bring less!
Aloha! My name is Kelly La'a and I, along with my husband, Patrick would like to welcome you to Kailua Beach Vacation Cottage. We've welcomed visitors and returning Kailua residents to our cottage since 2003. We have grown up in Kailua and know how to help you find the best in what Kailua has to offer.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1990
As lifelong residents of Kailua, we were fortunate to have a property large enough to have our parents living with us. Once they decided to go to the mainland, we started having many family and friends visit and they wanted their friends and family to visit as well... our cottage became the everyone's 'home away from home'...and the traditions and the aloha continue...
- Located on a private road, you have a private access to Kailua Beach...
- Only three homes from the beach
- Only three homes from Kalapawai Market and the entrance to Kailua Beach State Park
- Close to Segway of Hawaii, Bob's Pizza, K&K Bar-B-Que, Lanikai General Store, Island Snow &
Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks!

Aloha, The beach house was awesome. It was so nice to stay in a place with true hawaiin spirit. From the moment we arrived, I felt at home. After meeting kelly, patrick and the girls, it was like they were part of the family. They were so welcoming, helpful, and completely in tune with all we needed. I loved walking over the dune each morning, to find our beautiful beach. Watching the kite surfers, wind surfers, paddle boards and the doggies was so much fun. The only downfall was the traffic noises when sleeping, I live in an extremely quiet neighborhood though. I would definately come back to stay, and recommend it to all.
We loved our stay in Kailua- Kelly was amazing and easily available if you have any questions before and during your stay. The home is sweet and breezy, easy to get to from town and convenient to beach/shops etc.
Patrick and Kelly were wonderful and warm hosts! They happily answered our questions, but were not at all intrusive. They were truly kind.
We especially appreciated the snorkeling equipment and other toys that were available for our use. Hawaii is so expensive--it was nice to not have to rent additional equipment to play on the beach.
The beach is glorious and so close! We also enjoyed trips all over the island during our 6 night stay. We had family staying nearby, and the lanai was a great place to have guests relax and visit with us. And the 4 year old and 1 year old who visited loved the toys!
At first glance, the kitchen doesn't look impressive, but we were able to quite easily prepare a number of meals for the 4 of us, and even had family over (there were 9 of us for dinner that night) for a nice meal. We appreciated the Weber grill.
Thanks for a wonderful experience!
The house is in a perfect location just a few steps away from the most beautiful beach! Close by Kalapawai market for great food and coffee. They have lots of beach chairs, boogie boards, sunscreen, and towels which came in handy for sure! The kitchen is well equipped. The porch is very comfortable and relaxing. My two teens made it their sleeping area and loved it.
I thought long and hard about weather to write this review or not. I find it difficult but necessary to write what I found to be negatives here. The kitchen counters are old dated brown tile with very wide brown grout, impossible to keep clean. The shower stall is completely enclosed in this brown old tile with wide grout. Very unclean feeling to me. The bathroom gets very hot and you need to turn on mounted fan. The back door (main door) is in the hall way with a washer, dryer and toilet with sink and mirror. Maybe some could make use of this toilet but not us 😬.
The old dated everything makes cleanliness seem impossible. I admit this is more important to me than most. I needed to share this information for you to consider.
I loved this beautiful cottage. Reminded me of the true Hawaii that I grew up in; comfortable and welcoming. Cottage location is perfect just a few steps from beach, all the beach toys and supplies you need. Pat and Kelly are the most generous, kind and welcoming hosts I have met. I loved the thoughtful small touches like the tropical flowers as well as having everything I needed right there, including a huge gorgeous Hayden mango tree loaded with fruit (gotta go during mango season! ). Screened lanai best place to hang out. Cottage was clean, well equipped and would be great for families. It truly is a place of real Aloha. Skip Waikiki and come here for the real deal. You will arrive as a guest and leave as a friends. Cannot wait to go home again.
The description was mostly accurate. Renters have to be aware of traffic noise starting at 6am. The place was clean but is certainly in need of a renovation (kitchen & bathroom have seen a lot of years and use) however the lanai is fabulous. We pretty much spent all of our time in that room. The location of the house is great, in two minutes you are at a beautiful beach. Also shops and restaurants are within five minutes drive time. The owners are just lovely and very helpful of any need you may have. It's great to have plenty of beach stuff available as well.
This property is magical. If you are like us and not up for the plastic experience of Wakiki, you've found your spot to call home. You will not have a manicured, pristine, resort experience here. Instead, you'll experience Kailua in its native beauty. Peaceful, otherworldly, transportive. We loved it.
The house is really technically 1 enclosed bedroom with 2 bathrooms, one of which has a shower (no tub). The outdoor shower is not enclosed, but really wonderful for getting little kids sand free. One of the toilets is in the mud room, with the washer and dryer (so handy!!). The main room has an a/c which you'll need at night. That main room has 2 twins and one full/queen (?) beds. The entire house opens up and the breeze is divine.
The lanai is the best part. The brick floor is charmingly uneven. There is lots of seating for lounging. Our friends stayed in this room as their bedroom, which suited them well. I wouldn't have slept well in it, but if you are the kind of person who sleeps well when camping in a tent or fresh air, you'll love it. The sprinklers do come on and are a bit loud, but won't get you wet. There is a mango tree that drops mangos loudly on the tin roof occasionally, but only if the wind kicks up, which can be often, since Kailua is the windward side. Truthfully, these oddities are exactly the non hotel experience we wanted.
The kitchen has no traditional oven, but there is a portable one for use. We just used the BBQ Patrick and Kelly provided and the stove inside has two burners. It's a quirky and well loved kitchen and house, but clean and comfortable.
Whole Foods is super close as well as a quaint local market only 1 block away. We walked there almost daily for quick deli lunches and cheap wine!
Kelly was amazing to work with in the weeks leading up, super flexible and available. She greeted us with a tour and a hug!
The beach is soooo close! It's gorgeous and all the beach gear you'd need is provided. Tons of sand toys for kids and chairs and umbrella and towels. Everything we needed and more. This house and property is ideal for small children. It's almost a block of fenced space for running about. We had a 2 and 3 yr old and there were water toys and indoor toys available.
I am private, and was worried about sharing property w/ owners. But I never saw them aside from the friendly greeting and felt totally great about it!
We want to make this property part of our family!
Segway of Kailua, Island Snow (Shave Ice) and Kailua Kayak and Sailboarding are just steps around the corner for this cottage...
