Built in 2010, the Barefoot House is an excellent value for your Sayulita vacation! It has a lovely, quiet location atop Gringo Hill; just an 8 minute walk to the plaza and 2 more minutes to the beach. Sunsets are stunning and the views of 'Monkey Mountain' and the Sayulita jungle are simply gorgeous. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sleeping loft, it is perfect for a family or two couples. It can sleep 4-6.
Barefoot House boasts a large, salt water, solar heated pool with a shallow 'splash zone' for the kiddies. If you're not familiar with salt water pools, they are a luxurious alternative to traditional chlorine pools. They use low levels of salt to 'chlorinate' and maintain the PH of the pool. Without harsh chemicals the pool water leaves skin silky smooth and doesn't sting kiddie eyes.
The patio furniture is perfect for soaking up the rays or whiling away the lazy days under the shade of the pergola. The property is tastefully landscaped with tropical foliage and fruit trees. It has a delightful outdoor shower for rinsing off after a day at the beach or showering under the night sky bright with stars. Simply dreamy.
The fully equipped kitchen is open to the living room and has a 6 burner gas stove, a full size fridge/freezer with ice maker, and even a dishwasher! (A rare treat in these parts.) There is a whole house water purification system allowing our guests to drink the water from any tap in the house. The dining table can seat up to six and the kitchen bar has seating for four more. There is a flat screen TV with Satellite (English programming), DVD player, as well as an XBOX game system with games. There is a portable BOSE sound system to use with your ipod or mp3 player. We have a modest assortment of movies, books, games, and kids' toys.
The master bedroom has a king size bed with 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and fabulous pillows. Two sets of hand crafted French doors open to the pool. The master bath has gorgeous Parota wood counter tops, dual sinks, and a custom rock shower with rain head.
The second bedroom has a queen size bed, as well as a sleeping loft with an additional queen bed. The sleeping loft is ideal for kids (or limber adults). The second bedroom has a private bath with a stunning rock shower and rain head. The two couches in the living room can double as twin beds (although one is shorter than a normal twin - again, perfect kid size). Both bedrooms and the living room have their own air conditioning units with remote control. Each bedroom has a safe that will fit your laptop.
Barefoot House in Sayulita is equipped with a small assortment of beach gear available to our guests including beach towels & chairs. We hope that you'll be able to 'unplug' as much as possible while on vacation, but we do have Wi-Fi available to our guests.
We're super excited to announce that the Barefoot House is on the move toward becoming Green! We recently added an extensive rooftop solar system that helps to offset our carbon 'barefoot' print.
If you are interested, our 6 seater golf cart is available for rent for an additional $60 per night. This is a lovely mode of transportation around town, especially when lugging groceries from the Farmers Market and tired kiddos.
Wherever you decide to stay, we hope that you enjoy Sayulita as much as we do.

We're the Stewart Family - Dave, Heather, Cole, Emerson, Eve and Soleil. We live on the Central Coast of California. We own a small business and we try to live a lifestyle that allows us to visit Sayulita as often as possible. In 2009 and 2010 we spent 6 months living in Sayulita. The kids went to school at the public schools in town, and we built the 'Barefoot House'. We had the time of our lives. We surfed and ate fish tacos to our hearts' content. We hope to live there again someday. But, in the meantime, we are offering our cozy casita as a vacation rental.
Heather Stewart purchased this house in 2010
We bought our 'little piece of paradise' in March of 1998 when our oldest (now almost 19) was just a baby. We visited a few times after that and then got busy with life. You know how that goes. Four kids and 10 years later we came for a visit and remembered just how special Sayulita is. We made plans to return for a 'cultural exchange' and to build our little casita on the hill. In 2009-2010, we spent 6 months in Sayulita and oversaw the building of our bungalow that we affectionately coined 'The Barefoot House'. You'll have to visit to find out how it got its name. Hint: You'll love the salt water pool.
We like to think our house is rather cozy. The beds are plush and beautiful with lots of pillows. Since we were here during the construction we were able to add a lot of personal touches that make the house homey. Also, since we built the house to accommodate our family it is equipped with comforts like a dishwasher, full size fridge with ice maker (heavenly), and a whole house drinking water system so the kids can brush their teeth with no worries. These are really nice features when traveling with kids.
We would love to head back to your little piece of heaven in Sayulita 4/12-20 (we'd actually been planning on Feb 15-23 but switched dates since you are already booked - we love your place...and I almost never go back to the same place twice so that says a lot). Please pencil us in if it hasn't booked since I looked at the calendar.
We had the most wonderful stay. Nancy, the house manager, was very sweet and helpful and gave us the best suggestions for restaurants and beaches!
Great experience overall.
I can hardly recommend to go there! Heather and Nancy and her sister are three wonderful women that are trying to make the best for you and your stay. The house was perfectly prepared when we arrived. The style of the house is amazing! Everything was clean and prepared and nothing was missing. Speakers for music, cooking utilities, towels, ... The beds are amazing to sleep, its almost difficult to get outside in the morning because it's super comfortable. Its really worth the money and I hope we can go there one more time soon! Thanks for everything.. :)
Me and Sydney are only 1 Day away from leaving and we've had an incredible time staying in the barefoot house ! Everything from the amazing pool, to the gorgeous showers and the amazing creative kitchen to cook and have fun to the patio being such a beautiful relaxing place at night, the bed is amazing and the couches are so comfy as well we love this place and will definitely be staying here multiple times throughout our lifetime, Love You Dave & Heather !
Amazing property that's been beautifully maintained, the amenities are exactly as described. We were there in early September and although it's hot outside, the house is designed so that it's quite cool even with the air conditioning off, and the private pool (with no overlooking neighbours) is a wonderful respite from the heat. The house is located in a quiet neighbourhood at the top of a hill a short walk into town, we walked around at all times of day and night at never felt unsafe. Although we didn't need her, it was a great comfort to know that the property manager was easily reachable by phone and was local.
I can't say enough about how wonderful this house is and we hope to return some day.
I visited the Barefoot House with my husband and three kids ages 8, 6 and 4. This is a lovely house where a lot of love and thought was put into the design. It is cozy, yet spacious and incredibly comfortable. The pool is perfect for young kids. And we loved the town Sayulita, it is fun, with so much to do, and we felt safe at all times in its laid back atmosphere. I totally recommend it.
This was the perfect house for our family including three children (12, 6, 2). I chose this house primarily because it had a baby pool and it worked out absolutely perfect because our two-year-old was happy splashing away in the shallow end of the pool every day. The house was immaculate, modern, safe for kids, and with a great jungle and sunset view. We loved hearing the jungle sounds at night and discovered that there are two iguanas that live right up the street. We arranged for a cook to come and make a meal twice during our stay and loved having a home-cooked meal at our home away from home. There is AC, but we never used it because we are from the Pacific Northwest and were loving the 80 degree weather. We also rented the golf cart which made it really easy for us to tote the family up and down the hill to the beach. Thumbs up all around for this house!
We require a 5 night minimum stay unless approved by owner.
