Built in 2010, the Barefoot House is an excellent value for your Sayulita vacation! It has a lovely, quiet location atop Gringo Hill; just an 8 minute walk to the plaza and 2 more minutes to the beach. Sunsets are stunning and the views of 'Monkey Mountain' and the Sayulita jungle are simply gorgeous. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sleeping loft, it is perfect for a family or two couples. It can sleep 4-6.
Barefoot House boasts a large, salt water, solar heated pool with a shallow 'splash zone' for the kiddies. If you're not familiar with salt water pools, they are a luxurious alternative to traditional chlorine pools. They use low levels of salt to 'chlorinate' and maintain the PH of the pool. Without harsh chemicals the pool water leaves skin silky smooth and doesn't sting kiddie eyes.
The patio furniture is perfect for soaking up the rays or whiling away the lazy days under the shade of the pergola. The property is tastefully landscaped with tropical foliage and fruit trees. It has a delightful outdoor shower for rinsing off after a day at the beach or showering under the night sky bright with stars. Simply dreamy.
The fully equipped kitchen is open to the living room and has a 6 burner gas stove, a full size fridge/freezer with ice maker, and even a dishwasher! (A rare treat in these parts.) There is a whole house water purification system allowing our guests to drink the water from any tap in the house. The dining table can seat up to six and the kitchen bar has seating for four more. There is a flat screen TV with DVD player for playing movies as well as an XBOX game system with games. There is a portable BOSE sound system to use with your device. We have a small assortment of movies, books, games, and kids' toys.
The master bedroom has a king size bed with 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and fabulous pillows. Two sets of hand crafted French doors open to the pool. The master bath has gorgeous Parota wood counter tops, dual sinks, and a custom rock shower with rain head.
The second bedroom has a queen size bed, as well as a sleeping loft with an additional queen bed. The sleeping loft is ideal for kids (or limber adults). The second bedroom has a private bath with a stunning rock shower and rain head. The two couches in the living room can double as twin beds (although one is shorter than a normal twin - again, perfect kid size). Both bedrooms and the living room have their own air conditioning units with remote control. Each bedroom has a safe that will fit your laptop.
Barefoot House in Sayulita is equipped with a small assortment of beach gear available to our guests including beach towels & chairs. We hope that you'll be able to 'unplug' as much as possible while on vacation, but we do have Wi-Fi available to our guests.
We're super excited to announce that the Barefoot House is on the move toward becoming Green! We recently added an extensive rooftop solar system that helps to offset our carbon 'barefoot' print.
If you are interested, our 6 seater golf cart is available for rent for an additional $60 per night. This is a lovely mode of transportation around town, especially when lugging groceries from the Farmers Market and tired kiddos.
Wherever you decide to stay, we hope that you enjoy Sayulita as much as we do.

About Heather Stewart
We're the Stewart Family - Dave, Heather, Cole, Emerson, Eve and Soleil. We live on the Central Coast of California. We own a small business and we try to live a lifestyle that allows us to visit Sayulita as often as possible. In 2009 and 2010 we spent 6 months living in Sayulita. The kids went to school at the public schools in town, and we built the 'Barefoot House'. We had the time of our lives. We surfed and ate fish tacos to our hearts' content. We hope to live there again someday. But, in the meantime, we are offering our cozy casita as a vacation rental.
Heather Stewart purchased this House in 2010
Why Heather Stewart chose Sayulita
We bought our 'little piece of paradise' in March of 1998 when our oldest (now almost 19) was just a baby. We visited a few times after that and then got busy with life. You know how that goes. Four kids and 10 years later we came for a visit and remembered just how special Sayulita is. We made plans to return for a 'cultural exchange' and to build our little casita on the hill. In 2009-2010, we spent 6 months in Sayulita and oversaw the building of our bungalow that we affectionately coined 'The Barefoot House'. You'll have to visit to find out how it got its name. Hint: You'll love the salt water pool.
What makes this House unique
We like to think our house is rather cozy. The beds are plush and beautiful with lots of pillows. Since we were here during the construction we were able to add a lot of personal touches that make the house homey. Also, since we built the house to accommodate our family it is equipped with comforts like a dishwasher, full size fridge with ice maker (heavenly), and a whole house drinking water system so the kids can brush their teeth with no worries. These are really nice features when traveling with kids.

Awesome!!! The Barefoot House is AWESOME!
Loved this house, very comfortable and nicely decorated. The pool was so fun to have right out on the patio. The walk up “gringo hill” was enjoyable since there is often a nice breeze and beautiful views of the mountains and ocean.
Wonderful! Thanks for the lovely review, Jill. We're so glad you and your family enjoyed Sayulita and the Barefoot House. We look forward to having you as our guests again in the future! ~Heather and Fam
A wonderful private oasis in Sayulita
This house is amazing. All the small details are what made us pick this home and I'm so glad we did. Sure, there's a gorgeous pool, large spacious bedrooms and air con. You'll find that at many of the casas in Sayulita. What sets The Barefoot House apart is all the little things....the drinkable water was a blessing ( more so if you have kids I would imagine), the heated pool means the water was always enjoyable, it's a bit further from the town center so it was so private and peaceful, the kitchen is fully stocked, (there's a plug in lime/orange juicer which was great for margaritas....a blender, knives that were sharp, plastic glassware for around the pool. I could go on and on...11/10
Thanks Heather, And Nancy & Herasmo who managed our visit!
Absolutely loved our stay--we are return visitors and love each stay more then the last!
The house and property is well maintained (and lovely), has all of the amenities and is within easy walking distance to town and the beach.
super rental experience
The home was great, well designed around a great pool and patio area...everyone associated with the rental was super helpful and very responsive to our needs
The home is well maintained, clean and has a very relaxing ambiance. The grounds
Our only issue was location, we were there 3 weeks, and we are in our mid 70s.... fortunately we rented the cart, but without it we would not have had a great experience due to very steep hills to climb to get to and from town.....we found it to be at least a 20 minute walk to town center or the beach, with a very steep hill to contend with on the way there and back
That aside, we would highly recommend the Barefoot House as in every other aspect it was a super rental experience
Very Best Regards

Hi Bev & Gary ~ Thanks for the review, and I'm glad to hear that your overall experience was positive at the Barefoot House. I'm sorry you struggled with the hills; they will definitely get your thighs burning. I'm glad you enjoyed the golf cart - we love it, too, and we find that it makes getting around town so easy and enjoyable. We love the hilltop location of the Barefoot House. It affords us stunning views of the jungle and mountains across the valley, a delightfully sunny pool deck throughout the day and a cool afternoon breeze. We love sitting in the pool and watching the iguanas playing in the treetops, just beyond our garden wall. We feel like we're in a treehouse. We also love being on the back side of the hill, facing away from town, which gives us lovely privacy and peace and quiet when town is busy. I try to describe the location as clearly as possible in my description as well as in the guest letter that I send to our guests upon booking. I'm sorry that you weren't as enamored with the location of the Barefoot House as we are.

Perfect place for our family of 5! Clean, safe, the pool was perfect
The owners and local house managers were so helpful, made the entire trip go so smoothly, they even provided car seats for the ride from PV to Sayulita. The golf cart was perfect for getting around town and my kids loved it. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Thank you!
Owner Review of the Barefoot House during the holidays!
Hi there! My name is Heather Stewart, and my husband and I bought our little slice of paradise in 1998 when we were young newlyweds and just crazy enough to buy untitled land in Mexico (much to our parents' combined chagrin). We didn't do much with our land for over ten years while we put down some roots and started our "grown up life" in California. In 2009-2010, we spent 6 months living with our 4 kids in Sayulita during which time construction was completed on the Barefoot House. We just got back from an awesome stay at the BH, and I was prompted by VRBO to leave a review of my stay! So although, as the owner, this review will be slightly biased, I thought I would take the opportunity to share some of my thoughts about our time in Sayulita and at the Barefoot House (Dec. 28 - Jan. 8). First, I can't say enough about the really great location. Town was really busy during the first half of our stay, and it was SO nice to be able to retreat to the peace and quiet of our house on the hill (and sleep!). Second, the pool and pool deck were really relaxing. There are so many fun things to do in and around Sayulita, but one of our favorites was just relaxing by the pool. The sun is perfect on the pool all day and the surrounding trees are home to tons of really cool birds and several iguana families. Sitting by the pool and looking out across the deck into the trees allows for an amazing living espectáculo (show). While we were there, we replaced the knife set (they were quite dull - my apologies to our previous renters). We also replaced some other basic kitchen stuff that we found subpar (new frying pans, new wine bottle opener, new potato peeler, new can opener, etc). There is a brand new fridge with chilled water and ice maker. I love on demand ice! The brand new propane BBQ works great (some friends brought up some fresh caught mahi-mahi. We sashimi'd some and BBQ'd the rest. SO good!! You can charter a panga right off of the south beach, near Don Pedro's and do some fishing, if you are so inclined.) As usual, I always appreciate the whole house water filtration system, especially with the kiddos. I don't have to worry about them brushing their teeth and forgetting not to slurp any water. And, I'll let you in on a little secret. Summer is my favorite time of year in Sayulita: less touristy but still lots to do; no wait at the best restaurants; warm ocean; tropical weather; and, my favorite, fireflies off of the pool deck!! Enjoy! ~The BH Fam
