This property has been a private residence. We have moved to Houston and have kept the cottage in the family because everyone enjoys it so much.
While staying in Chatham we enjoy walking around the neighborhood in the evenings, kayaking to town beach along the oyster river, biking along the bike trail, renting bikes for all of our teenagers and letting them go as they please. We also enjoy going to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket or driving into Provincetown. We also enjoy the shopping and restaurants in Chatham as well as the neighboring villages and going out for ice cream at the School House. We like to watch the boats come in at the fish dump and plan to do some fishing and whale watching on our next visit this summer.
The house was was cute and well maintained. The neighborhood was pleasant and quiet. The grill could have been better. We like to use charcoal but this one took forever to heat. The communication and follow through on the part of the homeowner/property manager is my biggest complaint. I felt like I had to hound the owners/property manager for basic information including how to make the final payment and how to access the house. Finally, I had to contact them about getting my deposit back. While the overall vacation was good, this lack of communication added unnecessary stress to it. Better communication and follow through on their part would have made this a much more enjoyable experience.
We just returned from a week in this terrific "cottage" (really feels more like a full size house). We are long time Caper's and this was the best house we've ever rented.
No musty smell like so many others (it is hard to avoid with Cape climate and closed up houses, I understand)! Decorated nicely, not cluttered/crammed with years of knickknacks. The yard is great, the location is terrific - close to town, and bike trails. Walking to the closest beach (Harding’s), is not realistic with kids, and anything more that a towel. It is bike-able if you travel light.
The bedrooms have lots of storage, and plenty of linen. The kitchen is spacious and new, it could use a few more serving bowls, and storage containers. The AC upstairs was great - a few more fans downstairs might be nice. Nice new Washer/Dryer.
Seemed to be a little miscommunication (we arrived before the cleaners) b/t realtor and owners - however all were professional and pleasant, but we recv'd different info from each.
The fooze ball table was a HUGE hit, and it was nice to have access to the garage to store bikes. Fishing from boat yard was "awesome" according to my 10yo (who biked down daily). The outside shower is NOT private, which is a bummer. We creatively parked cars and had "look outs" and managed to use it anyway - but we won't rent a house w/o an outdoor shower, and this one barely counts (but we made it work).
Quite neighborhood. Felt comfortable letting kids walk and bike around. MUST EAT BREAKFAST/BRUNCH AT "Hanger B" at Chatham Airport (bike-able). Catch a Chatham A's baseball game, and you can't go to Chatham without getting a RAZZLEBERRY pie from Marion’s pie shop - to die for!
We look forward to returning to this welcoming home. Thank you for sharing it with us!
What a great find! Close to town and beaches in a nice and quiet neighborhood. So relaxing for our family! We had everything we needed and felt completely at home. Thanks for a great time!
We rented this cottage for a week in mid-August and were very pleased. The location is very convenient to downtown Chatham, Harding's Beach, and Ridgevale Beach. It's located on a very quiet street - we barely saw anyone else in the area, although there are other homes closeby.
The cottage itself was well-maintained and spacious. Two large bedrooms downstairs, two smaller ones upstairs. The kitchen is large, and is well-equipped. One of the nicest benefits was a pretty large yard, which our kids spent a lot of time playing in. The yard also has a patio with table and chairs for dining or just relaxing. It was nice to walk just down the hill (literally a 60 second walk) to the Oyster River Boat Yard, where we were able to catch hermit crabs, although the water was a bit grimy. A little further south is the Town Landing, which is much more interesting, with a lot of boats, shells, etc.
Satellite TV worked fine, and the wireless internet was fast.
The owners were helpful and responsive, and checking in via the lockbox was no problem.
Only negatives would be the lack of a gas grill, and that the driveway is a bit difficult to maneuver out of, although we have a large SUV. It's not a beachfront location, no water views, but the convenience to the beaches and to town made up for it.
Overall a very pleasant experience. Oh, and you have to try Larry's down the street (on Main) - great local diner.
We stayed here in April, and brought our 2 dogs. It was fantastic! The owner is great to work with and the house is beautiful, modern but has charming touches you'd only get at cape cod, and TONS OF ROOM.
If you want a beach front place, this isn't the place for you. BUT if you want a place that's super comfortable, has access to everything, has some great streets to walk on, and is charming, this is the place. We'll definitely consider going back!
This house exceeded my expectations. There are 2 kayaks for use at the river, which is a very short walking distance from the house. There is a TV in every bedroom (some small, but there) as well as a large flat screen in the living room. It is so clean, the basement only has two large chairs in it, but is a quiet place to read if you don't want to be outside. It's in a great location, only one mile from Harding's Beach...just great!!
The cottage is located on a spit of land between two boat yards and the beach. You can bike into town, the beach or town landing where you can rent kayaks or paddle boards and paddle to the town beach. Also just a few minutes away from the Cape Cod bike trail that takes you all over the Cape.
