As lifelong residents of the area, we hope to provide a retreat for those who long for a beak from the rat race we all experience these days. We're now retired from busy, stressful careers, and we know that a weekend or more away in the beautiful rural Blue Ridge Mountains will rejuvenate your spirits.
Judy Alderman purchased this cabin in 1998
The cabin is on a hill overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. Roughly hewn logs lend a feeling of going back to the past. It is a perfect place to slow down and think or to just take a walk.
Star Filled Skies
This cabin is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It is ideal for a short or long stay. We could happily have stayed for a week. The pictures are very accurate except that it's even nicer than it looks. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern, and the owners have thought of everything one might need. The porches are wonderful. There are two porch on opposite sides of the cabin so, morning and afternoon, there is a perfect place to sit and read or talk. It is very quiet and private. Judy was very friendly and funny and very easy to communicate with. We stay in cabins and cottages often, and this is at the top of our list.
Such a beautiful place. This was our second stay at the cabin. Would recommend to anyone
The cabin was beautiful inside and out and well maintained; loved everything about it. Judy was very accommodating despite our late arrival. We enjoyed our stay and had an opportunity to attend a concert at the Blue Ridge Music Center and visit Andy Griffith Museum in Mount Airy North Carolina. We'll definitely love to come back.
The cabin and property were as-described and photographed, and better in many respects. It was perfect for visiting and sharing meals, enjoying the quiet, hanging out - especially on the back porch rocking chairs. A well-crafted and nicely appointed cabin, great timbers and wood grain, everything worked. The yard area was mostly a buffer zone to the natural setting, freshly mowed, moderately sloped. Not a remote place but a quiet and pretty one. Good stars. And close to a great variety of fun stuff/places, and a friendly town.
My wife and I decided last minute that we needed to get away after the Christmas holidays, so we were delighted to discover that Fernwood cabin was available. We live in Raleigh, so it didn't take us long to get there, and it was amazing to see how quickly the scenery changes once you cross the NC/VA border. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and the cabin was easy to find. The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous inside, but what we loved the most was the view, the location, and the fact that it even though it was not too far out of town, it felt really private and secluded. We felt like it was only us and the mountains out there, and that's the type of peace and quiet that we were looking for. We normally like to take our own food to cook, so that worked out well, since the cabin had all the utensils we needed. After we left we realized that we had forgotten some of our food items in the cabin, but the owner was kind enough to ship them to us, so that made it even more special. We've added this one to our list of places to revisit! Highly recommended.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our visit to Fernwood Cabin. The cabin was very cozy and immaculate. We enjoyed our 15 minute drive to Galax to visit the antique shops and also to Hillsville. It will certainly be on our list of favorite cabins. Thank you, Judy, for providing information about events for the weekend and excellent directions.
