The cabin and property were as-described and photographed, and better in many respects. It was perfect for visiting and sharing meals, enjoying the quiet, hanging out - especially on the back porch rocking chairs. A well-crafted and nicely appointed cabin, great timbers and wood grain, everything worked. The yard area was mostly a buffer zone to the natural setting, freshly mowed, moderately sloped. Not a remote place but a quiet and pretty one. Good stars. And close to a great variety of fun stuff/places, and a friendly town.

Perfect Get-A-Way!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided last minute that we needed to get away after the Christmas holidays, so we were delighted to discover that Fernwood cabin was available. We live in Raleigh, so it didn't take us long to get there, and it was amazing to see how quickly the scenery changes once you cross the NC/VA border. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and the cabin was easy to find. The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous inside, but what we loved the most was the view, the location, and the fact that it even though it was not too far out of town, it felt really private and secluded. We felt like it was only us and the mountains out there, and that's the type of peace and quiet that we were looking for. We normally like to take our own food to cook, so that worked out well, since the cabin had all the utensils we needed. After we left we realized that we had forgotten some of our food items in the cabin, but the owner was kind enough to ship them to us, so that made it even more special. We've added this one to our list of places to revisit! Highly recommended.

My husband and I truly enjoyed our visit to Fernwood Cabin. The cabin was very cozy and immaculate. We enjoyed our 15 minute drive to Galax to visit the antique shops and also to Hillsville. It will certainly be on our list of favorite cabins. Thank you, Judy, for providing information about events for the weekend and excellent directions.

Peace and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

Me and my mom enjoyed our weekend stay at your beautiful cabin. It was so clean and nicely decorated. The fresh flowers on the table welcomed us upon our arrival. We took in 2 great music shows at Rex Theatre in Galax and at Blue Ridge Mountain Music Center on the parkway. The food at Scoots in town was delicious. It was so nice to take in beautiful mountain views driving around. We were fortunate to see a few deer by the road. It was nice to get away from the everyday stress of our daily lives. I would recommend this cabin to my family and friends. Thanks again Judy & Richard for your hospitality.
