About Mark

Mark A Doughty is an attorney, a real estate broker, and a private pilot. Since the first day he stepped off the plane in Kahului (OGG) Airport and breathed in the sweet Maui air, he knew that this Hawaiian island would be his favorite. He currently owns and rents a number of luxury vacation rental properties... that is when he, himself, is not vacationing.

Hey!  This is Candace and family and we just wanted to say thank you, once again, for the ten day stay at your condo in Maui!  It was definitely one of the greatest blessings we have ever received!  The condo and location was amazing!  I so enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty that surrounded us the whole time we were there.  

We loved going out every morning and snorkeling with the sea turtles right out the back door.  My favorite thing to do was to get up early, every morning, take my bowl of fruit and Bible and set out on the porch and study, pray and thank God for the blessing. I took so many pictures of the sunrise, sunsets and grounds around the condo! So beautiful! One day we went over to a hotel resort by Whaler's Village (Ka'anapali Beach) and we all were so thankful that we were staying at your condo and not over there.  So much more peaceful.  I could see why you would go and stay for months at a time.

We spent many evenings in Lahaina, HI. Just strolling through the town and getting Hawaiian Shaved Ice.  (I bet we had a shaved ice every day we were The thing that drew my heart to Maui and your Kuleana Oceanfront Condo #613 was the same thing that draws my heart to Israel, the people..... we loved the two little ladies that worked the front desk, and the guy that kept the grounds was super friendly and helpful.  Even when he had to come one night at ten o'clock at night and tell us to turn down the tv, (the surround sound you have in the condo is amazing. We kept turning it down during the actions scenes but had to turn it up when they spoke and it was still to loud.  ha ha) He was super nice.  lol  

Words really can not do justice to whats in our hearts… Our gratefulness for the blessing of Kuleana #613.  It has been my heart's daily prayer that you receive a hundred fold return on your giving because it was an amazing gift to us!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The condo was spotless, had everything we needed and then some, we loved the layout and enjoyed the sunsets from the lanai. Tastefully decorated space, comfy beds, everything was terrific from a to z! (Oh, and we didn't find it noisy like another reviewer did).

Loved our stay!

This is all about location. Ocean front lanai views for sunrises/sunsets. All amenities we needed were stocked at the condo. The beach just outside of the complex is perfect and as everyone mentions, we were joined by our sea turtle friends every day. They plop alongside patrons on the beach and rest. Lots of great options within walking distance (Maui Fish Market is a must). We loved our stay!!

Beautiful sunsets!

This was the 2nd time we've stayed at Mark's amazing Condo. It has everything you need to make your stay very comfortable from the HD TV to the comfy King Bed but what makes it extra special is the wonderful views of the Islands of Lanai and Molokai from the lanai. The sunsets are always beautiful and with the location just feet from the ocean, you get to listen to the constant sounds of the waves breaking! We hope to return soon.

Nice Condo - Wonderful Location

We enjoyed our stay at the Kuleana Resort on Maui. The location was absolutely wonderful. There is a seawall with black lava rock just in front of the condo with small beaches to the left and right with access just steps from the front door of the building. One beach was sandy with a large tree if you wanted shade and great for swimming; the second beach had no shade and had a few more rocks but better snorkeling. If you swam over or used the sea ladder to get in the area in front of the seawall there were lots of fish and some coral. This was also the area where we saw sea turtles up on the rocks trying to eat the seaweed. From the patio on the condo, you could look down into the water and see the turtles under the water. We appreciated the ease of getting to the condo and the terrific directions and info sent to us before our visit as well as the book of local info (loved Maui Brewing Company!) in the condo. We felt that the beach and the location were absolutely the stars for this vacation rental and we would rent it again, but it is due for a little TLC. On the positive side, the Tommy Bahama beach chairs were awesome and the boogie boards (?) were also fun just to lay on in the water, and the cooler was great but we didn't use it since we were so close to the condo. We picked up some noodles to float around on and left them for the next visitors so the beach supplies rate an "A." The kitchen is well stocked with things to cook with but it might be time for some new flatware and drinking glasses. The patio furniture was comfortable and clean. On the negative, the carpet in the bedroom definitely needs to be replaced and that in the front room is matted and probably will be ready to replace soon. The lock box in the bedroom closet was not working when we were there. Just a few other things we noticed (kitchen cabinets that could use a good wipe down around the handles, wobbly leg on the coffee table, lots of use showing on furniture in the bedroom and front room, a couple of rusty pieces of patio stuff in the flower box on the patio) show that the condo is well used and could use a little more in the way of maintenance and maybe updating. With that said, we found the kitchen and bathroom to be clean and looking good and the mattress is really comfy. We would have wished for a little more space but in Hawaii, who stays inside anyway??

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. In February 2017 we made the following upgrades and improvements: new flatware; New dishes and glassware; removed all carpet and installed new tile throughout the unit; new stainless steel dishwasher, new ceiling fan and light in living room; repainted the entire unit 2 tone paint; new faucets in kitchen and bathroom and had the tile in the shower professionally cleaned and resealed. I think you will find our unit is in excellent condition and we have addressed the issues indicated in this review. Our location being 30 feet from the water makes whale watching, meals and daydreaming very enjoyable. Sailboats go by and there are normally both surfers and paddle boarders right in front of the patio. You see Whales in the Winter and Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles from the lanai all year long.

We loved it - it wasn't too much of a resort but had all the essentials of being at a resort. The view and sunsets were second to none. We spent 5 days here and the description was VERY accurate. The sunsets, the regular turtle action. It was a definite highlight of our stay in Hawaii.

ROOM MOVES OR REFUNDS WILL NOT BE GIVEN AFTER GUESTS HAVE CHECKED IN. PLEASE INQUIRE REGARDING CONSTRUCTION DETAILS PRIOR TO BOOKING.  DISCOUNT APPLIED OF $25 PER NIGHT FOR RATE OF $160 PER NIGHT DURING THIS PERIOD. Workers will be working between 8 AM a.m. and 5 PM p.m. Monday through Friday on the exterior of the building only which does include the outside lanai/balcony of each unit. Unit 613 therefore we'll have some work done on the balcony between 8 AM a.m. and 5 PM Monday through Friday for some portion of this time.

Owner is not able to cancel this agreement for Owner’s reasons except for non receipt of Renter’s Funds without reimbursing Renter all money paid to Owner by Renter and Owner shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, compensatory, consequential, special, exemplary, punitive, or any other monetary or other damages, fees, fines, penalties, or liabilities arising out of or relating in any way to this Lease. By using Lease the Renter agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Owner from any and all damages arising as a consequence of such use arising there from. If Renter cancels this agreement with more than 60 days until the check-in date, Renter may request a full refund. If cancelled within 31-60 days of check-in date, Renter may request a 50% refund. If it is 30 days or less until check-in date, then all monies paid to Owner, thus far, are non refundable. Any cancellation requests must be in writing, faxed to 916-209-9920.
