We chose to buy this property because of the quaint charm of the Northwood's. Rest Lake is one of the calmest, most beautiful clear lakes in the area, and the sandy beach is perfect for swimming and lounging. The sunsets over the water are incredible. The area is so unique - relaxing, tucked-away, and surrounded by wildlife, wildflowers, and enormous trees.
Free use of the canoe, paddleboat, rowboat, and lifejackets make the chain of 10 lakes accessible for anyone.
A long overdue getaway. Very peaceful and we were glad we were the only renters this particular weekend as the property hosts several cabins and a house so the common areas are "shared". I admit we were happy to be alone for the majority of the time. Lovely little beach just steps from our cabin with nice picnic tables and gorgeous sunsets. We could easily load the kayaks from the sandy beach. The brick outdoor fireplace/grill is showing significant signs of wear but we made it work for a little campfire and it did just fine for smores and roasting hot dogs. We also brought our own small grill which is a good idea if you want more reliable grilling just outside your cabin. The cabin is clean and no frills bordering on a little tired. But our bed was comfy so no complaints on that. I think these cabins could be really charming with just a little effort and modest improvements like comfier chairs and things like that. The weather was cool so we used the little furnace and it worked just fine. The surrounding area is the best with truly wonderful bike trails, lakes, parks, hiking, kayaking, restaurants and so forth. No TV or radio - so bring a radio if you want music. We did and enjoyed it. We were able to get a cell signal but inconsistent data feed - which was ok. This wasn't an issue for us.
I've spent 1-2 weeks every summer here for the past 25 years (give or take). When I close my eyes and imagine my favorite peaceful spot in the world, I am sitting on the beach at Red Feather, listening to the lapping water and soaking up the warm sun. It is a perfect place for families to spend quality time together - away from the distractions of modern day life. The site is beautiful and the management is great. We spend our time swimming, fishing, sailing, boating, catching crayfish and toads, building sand castles, watching stars, and walking in the woods. Rest Lake is gorgeous and connects to a chain of beautiful lakes.
The cabins have plumbing, electricity, full kitchens (fridge, microwave, oven, stove, toaster, coffee maker, etc), screened windows/doors, and basic furnishings. Bring your own towels and sheets. There are no TVs - which is perfect for this place. There are two beaches for the resort and multiple docks. The resort has row boats, paddle boats, and a canoe free for your use. The beach has plenty of lounge chairs and an outdoor grill. There is a nice path through the woods that starts at the cabins. The resort is very close to the new paved bike trail. It is a short drive to many fun activities - including waterfalls, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, biking, go-karting, horseback riding, Wildwoods Wildlife park, a ski show, Bingo night, and rummage sales. It is a 10 min drive to the grocery store and 15 min to the library.
My wife & I stayed at Red Feather and really enjoyed ourselves. The stars at night are out of this world! There are all kinds of boats to go out on the water and the sandy beach cooled us off after a day in the sun. The room was clean and everything we needed. There is a wide array of restaurants in the area and all the people were really friendly. We plan on going back again later this year.
We have been going to Red Feather for almost 10 years. You truly get to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of nature on the beautiful lake and surrounding areas. The kids/grandkids have a ball playing on the sandy beach, swimming in the lake, or safely playing on the resort grounds. It is a wonderful place to go to escape the busy routine of city/suburban life.
A "little piece of heaven." That is what I would call Red Feather Lodge on beautiful Rest Lake in the Manitowish Waters region of northern Wisconsin. If peace and serenity is what we need in our busy, hectic lives, then this is the place to find it! My wife and I found nature in its complete freedom to enjoy and experience - a wonderful refreshing lake with gorgeous sunsets and spectacular starry night skies. Simple, complete and totally comfortable accomodations help make Rest Lake true to it's name. I was at home and on an exciting, wonderful vacation all at once. I can't wait to go back!
Our family has stayed at Red Feather for many years. We have recommended it to friends, who have also returned for multiple visits. I love being in the woods with all the necessary comforts of home. The pictures can't possibly convey the beauty and peace of this place. Owners seem to always be adding more conveniences to help make our stay pleasurable.
Cabin is in a woodsy, lake front, beach front setting close to the quaint Wisconsin town of Manitowish Waters. It is on a calm large lake which is connected by a channel to 10 other beautiful lakes. Manitowish Waters has an ice cream shop, coffeeshop, jewelry shop, scrapbooking shop, grocery store, bank, and a few other fun shops. The larger tourist town of Minocqua is a 25 minute drive. It has a movie theater, mini golf, a petting zoo, horseback riding, go carting, and other attractions. The area is great for families, boating, hunting, fishing, swimming, biking and hiking.
