Map Ranch is 2 miles from Custer and 2 miles from the West entrance to Custer State Park. The Mickelson Trail runs along the front edge of our Ranch for all those bicycle riders, hikers, or horse trail riders. There is plenty of space for parking. The back property line gives access to the Black Hills National Forest. We have 2 covered enclosures for Horses and large fenced pasture adjacent to the house with fenced boundary right next to the house. Please check out the pictures.
Our home has a fully equipped kitchen with an island - Great for cooking and visiting at the same time. There is a spacious covered deck with wonderful scenic views-plenty of deer, turkey, squirrel and other wildlife. The master has a king size bed, a jetted tub and new five foot separate shower. We're located 10 minutes from Crazy Horse - Mount Rushmore is about 25 minutes away - Rapid City is 42 miles. There is so much to offer here in the Black Hills you will not have time to do it all. But you can have a great time trying !
We think it will be worth it. Thank you for looking.
* Only Our guests are welcome to pan for gold on our property. We love it here. Come be our Guests!
We started coming to the Black Hills in 1996 when we were traveling in our RV - fell in love and kept coming back. We moved here full time in 2003. Mike is from S. Illinois and Anita grew up, mostly, in W. Texas.
Anita R. Pease purchased this house in 2008
We live just over the mountain from MAP Ranch. We love this area and this property because of it's location and the creek. MAP-Ranch is just a great location to do just about everything in the Black Hills. When we first started coming to the Black Hills we just fell in love with the Southern part and the Custer area.
The view from the large covered front deck is just terrific along with the location being 'just perfect' are the two top things our guests comment on year after year.
If you would like to have an up close personal look at Miniature Herefords - you'll come to the right place! We sold all but 3 steers this past week 7/2016 - sorry!
Anita was so helpful as we were planning for lodging for family during our daughter's wedding. She sent us recommendations on things to do and other places to stay. The wedding was at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park. This was the closest home we found, with the largest capacity, on the Custer side of the park. Beautiful views from the wonderful front deck. Great fun with family barbecuing on the deck, watching the sunset, and the pre-season Bronco game in the inviting family room & kitchen. We highly recommend this home.
MAP Ranch is perfect for anyone wanting room to spread out and relax on vacation.
The home is great, clean, comfortable and feels like home! It has everything you need including 2 bikes to use on the trail right in front of the house and a spacious garage that leads right into the house.
The front porch was the place we spent most of our time. It was over 90 degrees but you would never know. It was breezy and beautiful!
We were so close to Custer State Park that we visited several times. We were also close to Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, Keystone, Hot Springs, Hill City and less than an hour to Rapid City.
Anita and Mike were amazing hosts. They were friendly, welcoming and available if needed.
My husband, daughter, son and his friend and I loved MAP Ranch! You definitely want to stay here if visiting SD!!
We enjoyed our stay in Custer. The owners went out of their way to make our visit a good one. When our grandchildren came for a few days, they got see the newborn calves and feed the adults. The house had everything we needed and more. It was very convenient to Custer, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore and the other national parks in the area. Because the weather was perfect, we particularly enjoyed relaxing and eating on the large front porch and hiking in the national forest right behind the house. The Black Hills are great and we will definitely stay here if we go back.
Believe every positive thing anyone has ever posted about MAP ranch, Mike, and Anita! My family stayed there for two weeks last summer and had a fantastic time. We are exploring a new part of the country this year, but we are still sharing the great memories made in Custer. We miss and think of you Mike, Anita, and Ziggy! The Killen Family
I cannot say enough good things about MAP Ranch as well as Mike and Anita! The house is perfectly located for all Black Hills attractions, and it has a fully stocked, full size kitchen. The master bed was the most comfortable we have ever had in a vacation rental, and though we didn't use the other bedrooms, those beds looked to be of the same quality. Upon arrival the house was clean, and I mean really clean. We have stayed in other rental houses that were clean, but things like cobwebs hiding in strange places and dirty coffee pots were overlooked. Not so with MAP Ranch. And the view....so beautiful and relaxing! Animal lovers will love this place. We watched the bulls eat and play (mostly eat) and we enjoyed feeding carrots to the resident horse, Ziggy. One evening there were deer right outside the back door. We also saw a marmot, which was a new experience for us. Mike and Anita are very easy to work with and will go above and beyond to ensure a great vacation. Upon learning that we had forgot to pack our camera, Anita offered to let us borrow hers. One morning I let Anita know that a fan had stopped working the night before and within an hour Mike was there with a new one! Mike and Anita really care about their guests and want to ensure the best experience possible. I highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a great home base in The Black Hills.
Anita & Mike, we enjoyed staying at MAP this past week and meeting you and your critters. The cattle are adorable and Ziggy is gorgeous. This home is very well supplied and it really is like being in a home away from home. We will definitely check with you the next time we come to Custer. The mattress on the King bed was so comfortable! the house has furnishings that are much nicer than any motel or cabin. Thank you again for everything!!!!
Custer State Park W. entrance is 1.5 miles from MAP Ranch on Highway 16A. In late September early Oct. the Park every year has The Buffalo Round-Up that has become a world class event. Horse back riders round up the Buffalo herd to check and cull the Buffalo. This is a chance to see how it is/ was in real life. There are many caves in the Black Hills to see and explore. National Parks - Wind Cave and beautiful Jewel Cave are close. Hot Springs - South through Custer State Park, has a Wild horse refuge and Mammouth - newly discovered fossils in the 1990's of Sabor Tooth Tigers, Mammoths and other fossilized ancient animals. The Mickelson Trail is at the entrance to the ranch - following it via bicycles, hiking or by horse you can see and enjoy a step back into quiet 100 year old history. Of course we can not forget Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the 1880's Train. There is something for everyone. We love it here and think you will too. Come enjoy our home.
Other Activities: Our guests may Pan for gold in French Creek on our property. We have several 'pans' for our guests to use.
Golf: Custer has a local golf course and Hot Springs has a good course, too.
There are just so many things to see and do - you won't be able to do it all, but you are welcome to try!
