This has to be one of the most unique log properties in Minnesota. It was built on the site of a logging camp back in the 1920's, is almost 3000 square feet and great for entertaining large groups.
The sloping hardwood floors add character to the hand hewn beam, vaulted rooms. An expansive four season porch seats up to 40 people for dining or serene relaxation overlooking the lake. The picture windows on the 4 season porch open to create an airy, fragrant screen porch during warmer months. The large, level grassed yard is ideal for outdoor activities.

We celebrated a wonderful family time together as we extended our 50th wedding anniversary!! We (grandma and grandpa) had so much fun with Am and Jon, Ann and Curt and sons (12-9) and Carl and Kelly and girls (6-4). We cooked together, read books, played cards and had movie nights with popcorn. Uncle Curt brought his boat and we saw our grand kids try out tubing, wakeboarding, and becoming very good at it. We also did fishing (not too good), kayak and paddleboat. It was all alot of fun. But the most fun for me (grandma) was to have out family share good times all together.
Had a great time with a large group of friends and babies. Very cozy and beautiful indoor fireplace. Sauna was awesome. Close location to outdoor activities. Perfect kitchen for cooking for large groups as well! Had a blast!
Came to enjoy some down time with friends, this cabin was great. The cabin layout worked perfect , and the location was peaceful.
The lodge was a perfect setting for our small wedding and weekend of family gathering. We loved the private yard with the beautiful falling leaves. We enjoyed the peaceful lake, sauna and walking in the sunshine. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for group dinners and chatting around the fireplace.
On a beautiful October day our family gathered here for our golden anniversary. The long porch looking over the lake was very attractive for setting up a catered buffet luncheon--we chose the Sportsman's Inn and were well pleased. The inner living room's impressive fireplace offered warmth on a cool evening. (Wood can be purchased from a neighbor for a modest fee.) We enjoyed the spaciousness of the cabin and the solitude of the place. The lake is small--we saw no speed boats, only a couple of fishermen and a pontoon boat. The cabin has a paddleboat at its dock which we enjoyed--bring a boat sponge for recent rains. The kitchen was well furnished.
The owner was responsive to any questions I had and the experience was very enjoyable.
My extended family and I stayed in this cabin over Labor Day Weekend. There were between the three families up to 17 of us ( Had a couple in tents in the yard) We all fit and it never felt crowded! The cabin was just spectacular, it was so welcoming and fit our needs perfectly. We had big family breakfasts in the 3 season porch every morning and then Dinners every night. Everything we could have needed was provided in the cabin as far as linens and kitchen items. The lake access was a ton of fun and everyone had a blast fishing. Every evening was spent laughing around the beautiful fire pit. I cannot say enough how great this place was. It was close enough to everything in the area to go out during the days and explore new things, but away from the hustle and bustle and so relaxing. My Niece got engaged at the end of the dock, and it was so special for she and her fiance' . There was even wine glasses to do a champagne toast with! The kids really enjoyed that there was tv and internet as well so the adults could visit in peace, although a lot of time was spent playing tag and hide an go seek, and exploring in the woods and making stick forts as well. The beds were very comfortable as was all the furniture. The rustic charm of the place was just awesome.
I would recommend this place to anyone and hope that in the future to definitely stay again. Doug was wonderful and accommodating and made everything just super simple and easy.
We are 30 minutes Northeast of Downtown Duluth. There are three restaurant/bars within apx. 12 miles. Briar Lake is almost 1 mile long and varies in width as you can see on our website picture on the local info tab (See Link Below). Briar is a DNR designated trout lake and stocked with Rainbows, Splake, and Donaldson trout. The water is clear and warm, (when not covered by snow and ice). Depth in the center is about 30 feet. Briar is a spring fed lake with a creek outflow on the far end. Great for boating, water skiing, kayaks, jet skis and long enough to take off and land float planes. We also have a shallow cove that has launched boats up to 20 feet in length.
