Overview

About the property

One bedroom, one full bathroom, sleeps 2

The nature enthusiast will enjoy the comfort and location of this charming new cottage on 11 acres beside Sargeant Mountain Brook and bordering Acadia National Park. Follow the brook to Acadia National Park's 45 miles of rustic carriage roads for hiking, birding, snow shoeing or cross country skiing. Minutes from your front door is the Giant Slide Trail which follows a ravine thru evergreen forests to the top of Sargeant Mountain. The free Island Explorer Bus stops at your front door for further explorations of Mt. Desert Island. Just a half mile away is the more remote village of Northeast Harbor, recognized as one of the prettiest villages on the coast of Maine. Asticou Azalea Gardens are a half mile away, known for its visual delights and Japanese sand garden. After a wonderful day of adventure, relax in your sunny cottage, brew a cup of coffee or tea in your gourmet kitchen, read many of the books by Maine authors or play games by the wood stove.

Next door neighbors: The owners of Sweet Cottage live right next door and operate a timber framing business. We would be happy to give you a tour of the shops and the house . We are always interested in meeting our neighbors. Directions on cooking and eating your lobsters will be given, if needed.

The Village of Northeast Harbor: Sweet Cottage is only a 1/2 mile to Northeast Harbor. Northeast Harbor is one of the more remote villages on Mt. Desert Island and does not experience the same crunch of tourist activity found in the neighboring town of Bar Harbor. It is considered one of the prettiest villages on the coast of Maine, highlighted by a remarkably beautiful harbor. It's local waters offer some of the finest sailing conditions in New England.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The charming Sweet Cottage is located right in the heart of Mt. Desert Island - making touring in Acadia easy - with most sites, trails and Bar Harbor within easy access. We stayed a week and would love to come back! The cottage is a place you actually have to experience to fully appreciate it - photos don't do justice to the forethought, impeccable quality, simplicity and comfort that welcome guests. Thank you!

People have been drawn to the rugged coast of Maine throughout history. Awed by its beauty and diversity, early visionaries donated the land that became Acadia National Park. The park is home to many plants and animals, and the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast. Today visitors come to Acadia to hike granite peaks, bike historic carriage roads, or relax and enjoy the scenery. Hike down to Somes Sound the only fjord on the East coast of the US. Follow the brook past the water fall to the top of Sargent mountain. Located In the center of Mount Desert Island. The cottage is beside Sargent brook. Rural area off the beaten track. About 160 feet away from the 2 lane Sound Drive. Cottage is facing south for direct solar gain. Very quiet at night with many stars visible. Lay in the hammock over the brook and look at the stars.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Sweet Cottage. We had two adults and two kids, age 1 and 3, and the cottage was the perfect size! A bedroom for the adults and a pull out sofa for the kids. The cottage was clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we could have needed. The location was perfect. Close to Bar Harbor and other points in Acadia. We would highly recommend and hope to stay again. This time for longer as we ran out of time!

Sounds of the stream

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage right next to a stream. I loved hearing the stream with the bedroom windows open.

The cottage is just a short ways from Bar Harbor. Close enough to enjoy the park but far enough to be away from the crowds. I would definitely stay here again. You have everything you need here in a well maintained and well stocked cottage.

Good wifi but don't plan on watching the big screen. Your iPad Pro screen is bigger than the TV. But you're on vacation, enjoy the beautiful nature around you. There is a picnic table and canoes outside by the lovely stream. Inside there are plenty of games and books to read.

For a couple this is a great place to stay. Don't hesitate to book it!

Perfect location for exploring the carriage trails

  • 5 of 5

This very comfortable and well-equipped cottage is just a few miles from three different carriage trail access points, and from Northeast Harbor itself. It was the perfect location for us and we hope to return next year.

The sort of place you will want to stay longer

  • 5 of 5

Really pleased with our stay here. This is a great cottage. High quality finish and quality appliances. Excellent shower in the little bathroom. Good position for seeing the island and a fantastic array of maps and guides to help. Plus good books on the bookshelf, impressed by the the good taste of the hosts. I would recommend this highly to anyone. Acadia is a really interesting place to visit and we ran out of time to do everything.
