Why Amy Scarlatella chose Seneca Lake

The first time we saw this property, it was dead of winter and we had to walk down the 3/4 mile long driveway, as the road was a foot deep in snow. As we walked down, we fell in love with the privacy of the property. When we came around the final bend of the road, we just stopped and couldn't believe how the property gave us such a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the cottages and beach area and knew that day, we found our home.

We were very pleased with the cottage. There was more than enough pots and pans and kitchen supplies

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was fully stocked with everything we needed for cooking, plates, cutlery, bug spray, shampoo, etc. The view from our cottage was spectacular. Every night we watched the sunset. The finger lakes scenery and national parks were second to none. We explored several waterfalls and toured the area. For motorcycling the area I think it was the best rides we've ever done. We definitely want to go back this fall to see the trees change colour.

Seneca Lake near Watkins Glen

  • 4 of 5

The setting was gorgeous, woodsy, at the bottom of a hill. For $240 per night, I would hope this rustic cabin was slightly better appointed; a little more polished and more attention to detail. The kitchen in particular needed updating (chipped dishes, dull flatware, 2-cup coffee pot, etc.). A fresh trim of the overhanging branches facing Seneca Lake would also enhance the experience. Nice time, overall. Free kayaks!

Everything you need with a rustic touch!

  • 5 of 5

We just had a great weekend at the Montour Falls Cabin. The owners were responsive and helpful with all of my questions. It is a perfect getaway for a couple, two couples or a small family. It was peaceful and had everything we needed. I wouldn't recommend this for smaller children, but perhaps older children. It is also very close to MANY great wineries on the Seneca trail.

Nice lake views, inside and out!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I came for a long weekend and stayed in the "New" cabin. We spent the days on the wine trail and hiking at the National Forest and loved coming back to sit on the deck and look at the lake. The main bedroom and living room have nice views of the lake, but I think it helped that a lot of leaves had dropped by then. The cabin had everything you would need, they even had little extra's (bathroom supplies, coffee/tea, DVD options). Nights were cold, but we did use the firepit one night and had a great time. Looking forward to coming back!

Very nice, clean rental

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a pet-friendly rental for a few days around a wedding that we were attending in Geneva. A bit of a trek to get up to Geneva, but the cabin was lovely.

Very clean, plenty of space for two people and a dog; there is another bedroom though it might be a little tight for four adults. Would be great for two adults and two kids.

Grocery, beer, and liquor stores are very convenient. Lots of wineries around though we didn't check any out. Also some breweries and distilleries that we hear are quite good.

We stayed in the 'new cabin' and spent a ton of time on the deck. Great views of the lake, slightly obscured by the trees, but sunset-watching was still awesome! We didn't spend too much time by the water, as there were two other families at the other cabins, but we didn't mind.

A few recommendations for the owners:

Add blinds to all the windows. Really helps keep things cool on hot days.

The water pump right outside the bedroom window constantly kicking on every time someone flushes a toilet or turns on the sink is kind of annoying. Maybe it could be moved to the other side of the cabin away from the windows?

A light on the deck would be nice for post-sunset grilling.

We would definitely stay here again if we happen to be in the Seneca Lake area.
