About Seneca Secrets
Seneca Lake offers great swimming, boating, fishing, water sports, sun, and breathtaking sunsets. We are ideally located in the heart of New York State's Finger Lakes, just minutes away from the area's premier vineyards, restaurants and local towns such as Penn Yan, Geneva, or Watkins Glen.
Please note we also offer on-site kayak rentals. Please either call us or visit us at our website, SenecaSecrets.
We have a sloping gravel driveway and recommend all-wheel drive.
The first time we saw this property, it was dead of winter and we had to walk down the 3/4 mile long driveway, as the road was a foot deep in snow. As we walked down, we fell in love with the privacy of the property. When we came around the final bend of the road, we just stopped and couldn't believe how the property gave us such a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the cottages and beach area and knew that day, we found our home.
We were looking for a pet-friendly rental for a few days around a wedding that we were attending in Geneva. A bit of a trek to get up to Geneva, but the cabin was lovely.
Very clean, plenty of space for two people and a dog; there is another bedroom though it might be a little tight for four adults. Would be great for two adults and two kids.
Grocery, beer, and liquor stores are very convenient. Lots of wineries around though we didn't check any out. Also some breweries and distilleries that we hear are quite good.
We stayed in the 'new cabin' and spent a ton of time on the deck. Great views of the lake, slightly obscured by the trees, but sunset-watching was still awesome! We didn't spend too much time by the water, as there were two other families at the other cabins, but we didn't mind.
A few recommendations for the owners:
Add blinds to all the windows. Really helps keep things cool on hot days.
The water pump right outside the bedroom window constantly kicking on every time someone flushes a toilet or turns on the sink is kind of annoying. Maybe it could be moved to the other side of the cabin away from the windows?
A light on the deck would be nice for post-sunset grilling.
We would definitely stay here again if we happen to be in the Seneca Lake area.
We have been here a few times over the years, and always have a great time. They put everything you can think of in the cabins, which makes shopping easy. Had some of my extended family join us and spent a really nice weekend between going to breweries and hanging out in the cabin. Even went down to the water (cold weekend!) to watch the sun go down. See you next Spring!!
I have been here a few times and have a great stay every time! My friends and I stayed in the "New" cabin and really enjoyed hanging out on the deck after wine tasting and using the firepit at night (cold nights!). Thanks for another great vacation!
This was our second time at seneca secrets and it did not disappoint. This time we stayed at the upper cabin and it was also comfortable and clean with all the necessities. The owners are responsive and available to help at all times. We continue to find new and great things to do for the kids and adults alike. The location of this place is great and the views of the lake are superb. We highly recommend Seneca Secrets!
This is a very different kind of rental, at least as far as we have experienced when not looking to go camping. The cabin is literally a cabin in the woods. You have to put the car in 4 wheel drive to get to the place (4 wheel drive is a necessity, not an option), which is probably a mile off the main road. The cabin we were in - montour falls is heated with a wood burning cast iron stove, which means you have to start a fire from wood roughly from scratch (kindling and wood are provided) to have heat. There are 2 bedrooms each with a full size bed and a serviceable kitchen with the essentials. The bathroom is adequate. Everything is clean. The owners are very responsive to the needs of their guests. There are three cabins total on the property each with its own grill and outdoor table space. The fire pit and lake access are shared. The space is ample, secluded and picturesque. It is definitely not handicapped accessible, or small child friendly. If you plan to travel with children under the age of 5 don't plan to relax outdoors until after they've gone to bed. There are multiple steep stair cases that meander toward the lake (even our very agile German shepherd tumbled down one flight). The location is superb for wine tasting. The south east side of Seneca lake is prime wine making territory and there are numerous high quality tasting rooms very close by. Watkins glen is also nearby. We loved it, but we like camping too. And we didn't relax until our son went to bed, just early enough to watch the sun set over the lake each night. We will definitely look to return sometime later.
Our family had such a good time here! We rented two cabins and had the whole place to ourselves. My kids used the firepit every night and my husband and I spent most evenings, down by the water with a bottle of wine. We will absolutely be back next year.
Step outside your cottage and enjoy a picnic, overlooking the lake, a relaxing swim, or take a short drive and minutes away you will find that Seneca Secrets is surrounded by wineries, restaurants, farm stands, breathtaking waterfalls.
