Everyone gets their own space! Wi-Fi is available for your use, however, due to the remote location of the property, the internet service is very limited and there is no streaming allowed (no Netflix, no YouTube, no watching videos on Facebook, no uploading or downloading photos, etc.) Email and Google searches only.
From this convenient location, explore old Hilo town with its great farmers market and historical museums and must see stops. Also discover beautiful Akaka Water Falls Park and the Old Mamalahoa Highway, the original highway built back in the 20’s that took you from Hilo town to the beautiful horse country of Waimea. From the house, you’re only a short 20 minute drive to the south to Hilo, 20 minutes to the north to Honokaa town, Waipio Valley and from there just another few minutes to the beautiful white sandy Hapuna Beach.

This is our 4th year here, and it never gets old. The whales last night were very talkative. We agreed they were saying, "Goodbye, it was nice to see you again and hope you come back!"
The new flooring/decking in the back is fantastic! Thank you. We appreciate how livable this home is and feel fortunate that you are willing to share.
We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay in this spacious, nicely decorated home with its wonderful ocean view. The location north of Hilo provides a quiet, peaceful get-away but is convenient to attractions such as Akaka Falls, Waipi'o valley, Pahoa and Kilauea Volcano Park. The three of us were very comfortable. We enjoyed the tropical garden and especially the beautiful sunrises each morning. Hale Hamakua is a very good value for the price. One tip: I would suggest stocking up on groceries in Hilo before you arrive.
This is a correction, my last review was for the wrong place, but listed under this house. This place is a very nice size, very nicely appointed, and has a good supply of linens, tableware, silverware. Parking is good. The layout is very nice for bigger groups. The house is quite clean, too. There are two reasons for not giving the fifth star....the water pump is VERY noisy. We were traveling with a pregnant lady and had to institute a no-flush rule after we all were woken up the first night by the water pump at 4am. We have never heard such a noisy pump. The other thing that was not ideal was how far from Hilo it is. The mile marker as you leave Hilo is 3, this is off the road between 20 and 21. Great if you want seclusion, not as convenient as we had hoped for restaurants and shopping.
Hale Hamakua is a wonderful place. Very roomy. we were two parents, our son and his children 23 and 21. everyone had a bed room. You need a car to stay here. We had a van and we used it to cover the whole island. Everything we wanted to see was on the Hilo side and at the volcanos (which erupted a week after we left). The grandkids went all the way around the island. We had no interest in Kona, otherwise we did it all, The zipline was fabulous (for the kids!). Be sure and go all around the bay (south east) In Hilo. The water pump is a noise problem. I have already suggested they isolate the pipe and filters from the structure with rubber. It is a good pump that kept up with all the showers going at once. This was our second trip. The management group was excellent with good instructions. We found the house first try. We would go again and I hope we will. Jim
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at Hale Hamakua. My husband and I and 15 yr old son found it very welcoming, comfortable and charmingly decorated. It was well-equipped and spacious. The directions from the airport were easy to follow, and it is a lovely drive from Hilo. There are several activities/attractions within easy driving distance - thank you to the managers/owners for the excellent information provided. The only drawback, which wasn't a problem for us at all, is the noise of the water pump with use of the plumbing. I would highly recommend this home for anyone looking for a quiet haven to return to at the end of a busy day!
We (4 People from Germany) stayed at your house for 4 nights. Everything was perfect. Thanks for that great experience. Mahalo.
We were so impressed with quality of the Hale Hamakua, both inside and out. The house was in perfect condition, roomy, well appointed, and with stunning views of the ocean and the beautifully manicured gardens. Someone has obviously put a lot of thought and energy into making this the perfect vacation rental.
Judging by some of the other (negative, and definitely in the minority) reviews the owners are very responsive to comments and address issues very quickly. We loved the fact that there was a cool box and freezer blocks, chairs, knife sharpener, and other items that you wouldn't often see in a vacation rental.
