Outstanding vacation "home" and "base of operations" for exploring

  • 5 of 5

From the onset of planning our first family vacation at LN, Barney’s House appealed to us based on the quantity and quality of reviews. Last September we travelled from Ohio to review first-hand about eight properties and selected Pam and BC’s.

During our week stay July 8-15, 2017 we found everything as advertised. The property is well-equipped, most importantly in the kitchen and with a great gas grille on the deck. It is well-supplied with towels, paper products, and other things we might have forgotten to bring ourselves, and is clean and well-maintained. Pam and BC live nearby and were very responsive to our needs getting acclimated to our new surroundings. We made extensive use of the “water toys” which included many “person-powered “ boats and inflatables. The younger and more adventurous among our multi-generational crew (age 8 mos to 75 yrs) took the kayaks and pedal boat as far as LN Marina for ice-cream and slushies (about a mile). A senior member made good use of the elevator to save wear and tear on osteo-arthritic joints.

Barney’s House was a great “base of operations” for side trips. We rented a high quality/high performance (150 hp) “tri-tube” Bennington pontoon boat from “Hank” at LN Marina for a day of tubing, and covered the entire lake from Cowan Ford Dam, back to LN State Park and return to LN Marina (… without getting lost! We found our good waterproof map adequate to keep track of the well-numbered buoys). If you are interested in nutritional matters, plan a side trip to the world-class Nutrition Research Institute in quaint Kannapolis. It is tied to UNC and even though its scale of research on the link between nutrition and genetics is unmatched anywhere else in the world, it may be relatively unknown even to locals. We ate out at “Big Daddy’s” and Lineberger’s Cattle Company, and visited the country store in Terrell. Check on meal service hours at Queen’s Landing, in that they don’t seem to provide full service mid-week.

The back-to-back “Jack and Jill” bedroom arrangements with their shared bathrooms served our family grouping well (the “seniors” enjoyed the master bedroom). Our grand-daughter, who was taking online college courses, had some difficulty in meeting submittal deadlines on homework because of down times with the Charter internet service. S’mores around the firepit were a hit.

Wonderful Home on the Lake

  • 5 of 5

I rented this beautiful home in May 2015. I'm sorry I never got back to give this review until now. Pam was so wonderful! She allowed me to have my wedding at her home and it turned out so great! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Our wedding pictures looked so good on the dock. The guest enjoyed fishing on it too! Beautiful home inside and out. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to vacation on Lake Norman! I look forward to renting this property again in the future!! Thank you again Pam!

Owner's Response: One of the most beautiful weddings I have seen at the home. Unfortunately, we no longer host weddings.

Thanksgiving stay at Barneys Home

  • 3 of 5

The listing was accurately described. It was clean and well-maintained. The owner provided good customer service. I could recommend the property to friends and relatives. Because we were spending most of our time with family in the surrounding area we didn't participate in activities or attractions. We did go to one of our favorite restaurants Big Daddy's. My family which included 2 grandchildren for the whole stay and 3 more grandchildren for one night. We were all comfortable with enough bedrooms and bathrooms. There was plenty of room and the kitchen was adequately stocked.

Perfect weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this beautiful property to celebrate my father-in-law's 60tth birthday. The home was well appointed and had everything we needed. The private beach was perfect for my 7 year old little boy and his best friend to play. The kayaks and paddle boat were a huge hit with my teenage daughters and my father-in-law, as well! We swam, fished off the pier, grilled out, and just had an amazing, relaxing weekend. Pam and her husband were so accommodating and friendly. Everyone is still talking about what a wonderful time they had! We will definitely be returning to this gem of a home!

Felt just like home.

  • 5 of 5

We had lots of room inside and out for all our friends and family. Once we got in the home we did not leave until checkout. The deck was amazing and the lake was perfect. Plenty of house to accommodate all us "old folk". The owners were wonderful to work with and we appreciated their hospitality.

Great place for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful vacation spot for our family reunion! This clean, modern and well equiped home is located on a private lot with its own beach and dock. There were several boats available for us to use as well as many types of floats. We brought a badminton net and there was a perfect place for us to play behind the house along with the corn hole game provided. This home was a great value for the price!
