Luxusious Smoky Mountain Chalet with a Killer View
Location: Franklin, NC (off Hwy. 441 south of Franklin)
Why stay in a vacation rental with hand-me-down furniture, dusty rooms, a lack of soft towels, and a shortage of dishes when you can stay in luxury at Hidden Gem. I stay in vacation rentals when I travel and I know there is a wide selection in what you find when you get to your destination. You will not be disappointed when you arrive at HIdden Gem. Everything is first class. I guarantee it.
Hidden Gem is located 5 miles from the GA/NC state line on HWY 441. It is 9 miles from Franklin. As you drive up the paved road to the top of the mountain, there is only one other house on the road. From the large wrap around deck you have a wonderful view of a mountain vista with layers of mountains.
Inside, the stone gas fireplace provides a warm center for the large vaulted living room. There is a wall of windows looking out over the mountains. There are 2 bedrooms with king beds, 1 bedroom with a queen bed, and 1 bedroom with twin beds. In addition there is a game room with a sleeper sofa. You can relax in front of one of the two TV’s, play a game of pool, or soak in the hot tub in a separate room which looks out on the forest. You can hook up with the free WiFi if you have to stay in touch but be warned - business will not be as important when you are relaxed in the mountains. You can even start out at our lower deck on a private nature trail that extends out into the National Forest.
Franklin is a quaint, friendly town that loves to have festivals, parades and parties. It has a number of fine restaurants and shops. A recently completed Greenway follows the Little Tennessee River which runs through Franklin. You can hike or bike for several miles along the river. There are nature walks with guides to point out plants, birds and other things of interest. Franklin has a rich history with connections to the Cherokee Indians and to Scottish settlers. “Picking on the Square” during the summer and fall months invites everyone to come downtown with their folding chairs and listen to music and watch the folk dancing. The Fun Factory is a delight for both children and adults with all kinds of games and food.
If your taste is for more lively things there are a number of trails to hike (The famous Appalachian Trail is only a short distance from town). We have recently added a nature trail directly from Hidden Gem. There is also white water rafting, good fishing for mountain trout, viewing some of the impressive waterfalls nearby. Franklin is known as the “Gem Capital of the World” and there are several ruby mines where you can pan for rubies and emeralds. Asheville, with its magnificent Biltmore House is about an hour away.
Come stay in our lovely chalet. Any time is good. In the spring you can enjoy the mountain laurel and other native flowers; in the summer relax in the cool mountain air; in the autumn be amazed at the color display Mother Nature puts on for you. And if you are a mind to, spend Christmas or New Years and have a good chance of having a white Christmas. Wildlife abounds. Other guests have reported seeing lots of deer, wild turkeys, fox and even an occasional black bear.
This is my only vacation rental property. I personally manage it and my family stays here when they come to the mountains. We maintain it in good condition. Our cleaning crew is top notch. We would love to share it with you. I will be happy to recommend the good restaurants, the best place to pan for gems and do anything else I can to make your visit memorable.
I love to travel and I love to stay in vacation rentals. But in staying in mountain rentals I was not in love with shabby furniture, dusty rooms and crawly things. I determined if I ever owned one it would be different. I was born and raised in the Missouri Ozarks. I have always loved the mountains. When I first visited western North Carolina I knew I wanted to spend a lot of time here. When I got a chance to purchase Hidden Gem I jumped at it. We have upgraded with a pool table, furniture, linens, new mattresses, additional decks, a new spa room etc. It is a comfortable, relaxing place to spend a week or a month. You will enjoy the art and decoration my talented daughter has lavished on Hidden Gem. I love the deer trail that runs near the lower deck. (We have added a lower deck to get down to the private nature trail.) With 2 HG TV's, Wifi , and an amazing view of the mountain ranges, this is not your typical mountain cabin. Look at the pictures and read the reviews of our guests. You will enjoy Hidden Gem.
Owner, Jerry Porter purchased this chalet in 2002
We came from St. Louis for a week of motorcycling in the Smoky mountains. This was a perfect central location for us. The house is very clean with nice amenities.Jerry and Rita are very accommodating hosts. We would definitely stay here again if we returned, and would recommend this property to anyone.
This was such a well appointed house with a superb view of mountain ranges. We went the 3rd week of October and the leaves were beginning to change, it was awesome! The beds, pillows, covers, towels were lush and ultra comfortable. Each bedroom had its own robe just like a first class hotel. We were surprised that there were so many amenities already furnished such as garbage bags, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, soap, detergent etc. The views from the A frame windows in the house and the balcony were spectacular. Last but not least we were greated with the most wonderful welcome basket full of goodies. Don't hesitate to rent this first class property!!
This was my 2nd stay at this property. We enjoyed a girls getaway weekend in this comfortable spacious chalet. It is beautifully decorated inside, and even more amazing outside when you step onto the deck to enjoy the mountain view! This chalet has absolutely everything needed to relax and unwind.
We stayed at "Hidden Gem" over 4th of July weekend and couldn't have asked for a better vacation home! There were six of us in our family and we enjoyed how spacious the 4-bedroom home is. We cooked breakfast and dinner each day and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains that you can see from every angle of the living room and kitchen. The pool table on the bottom floor provided great fun while we were relaxing! We will definitely be staying here again in the future if we have the pleasure of visiting Franklin, NC again!
This housecwas grest. There were three families, adults and 2 young children. There was plenty of room for everyone especially since there are three floors. The view was spectacular and the decks were great. The amenities were very nice. Lovely towels and nice touches such as tissues, hand soap and great sheets. The house is decorated very well and feels like an upscale hotel. I must add the house was very clean and we had no problems while we were there. I would rent this house again.
Just spent a fabulous week at Hidden Gem for Christmas with my family of ten. The home was so cozy and warm yet spacious for everyone to be comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we were all enchanted with this wonderful home. The views were spectacular, stepping on to the deck made you feel as if you were standing right on the mountain. Each bedroom was a sanctuary. The beds and linens were divine providing a most restful sleep after our busy days. The dinning room was large enough for us all to gather at one time and the kitchen was very well equipped to prepare our large meals. The welcoming gift basket was so thoughtful and enjoyed by all. The living room was so nice to gather in on Christmas morning around the fireplace. The family enjoyed the downstairs for hours at a time playing pool, games at the table, watching football on the large screen and some of the girls enjoyed the hot tub. The walking trail was a delight for the nature lovers in our family. All this before we even left for our daily adventures to Gatlinburg, Cherokee, Highlands, Clayton, Dillard and Franklin. The location enabled us to experience many things that the area has to offer, even got to see and play in the snow at Newfound Gap. Winter was great but know each season brings it's own beauty and new adventures. We would love to return again and see them all. Jerry and Rita were so accommodating and we thank you so much for opening your home to us and being a part of making this Christmas a wonderful memory for us all.
