Located on the quiet side of Huron Bay away from traffic, this 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath lake house has 150' of lake frontage. A beautiful modern structure with rustic decor and local decorative artifacts and photographs, this is a wonderful site for a family vacation or a romantic getaway. A large fire pit and picnic area are only feet from the sand and gravel beach that gets deep very slowly and is suitable for children. A 16' tandem Old Town kayak and a 14' aluminum Mirrocraft boat (mounted on an easy launch/retrieve ramp) encourage fishing for pike, bass, sunfish, etc. and exploring the sheltered waters of Huron Bay. Satellite HD TV provides voluntary contact with the outside world.
Normal check in time is noon Saturday. Normal check out time is noon Friday.
Thoresen's on Huron Bay: While in the house, enjoy a near-audiophile stereo and flat-panel video system with HD satellite TV, a modern fully equipped kitchen and unlimited telephone, high speed (DSL) internet, and WIFI privileges. A whole house fan provides natural cooling in the summer by pulling in air from off the lake. Heated floors and a 4' wood burning fireplace in the great room result in a cozy fall-winter-spring environment. A decorative fireplace with candle-burning ceramic logs and a 9' window in the master bedroom creates a relaxing place for having morning coffee in bed while watching loons fish in the bay.
Coming and going: Normal arrival is Saturday after noon. Normal departure is on Friday before noon.
We were looking for a home to rent that felt secluded, on the water, with comfortable accommodations and had a fire pit. We found this beautiful home. The house has all the conveniences of home and is beautifully decorated. It is so peaceful. The beds are comfy. We highly recommend it!. It's a great location to explore waterfalls the Keweenaw Penninsula and Lake Superior. We found a restaurant north of the State Park called Carla's. It has the best fresh fish around the area!!! This home was a great find!!
This rental was amazing. It has everything you could need. Love the staging/decorations. I would highly recommend this place. The information they give are very helpful and complete. I would love to come back.
This was our second year here. The setting is so peaceful and a perfect place for a little r & r. The house has all the amenities to make guests feel at home and is beautifully decorated with antiques. L'anse is a friendly and beautiful town-centrally located to explore the beauty of the western side of the UP.
This property was everything it claimed and more. I have never seen a rental property that was so well equipped for guests. All the fishing equipment, life jackets, boating supplies were all located in the front closet for easy access. Every time we thought we needed to add to our grocery list, items were already there, bug spray, paper plates, all cooking items needed and so much more. It was soooo relaxing to sit by the lake with the fire and even the mosquitoes weren't too bad. The house is beautifully decorated and supplied, all you needed to bring were your clothes and yourself.
We visited Pointe Abbey, Silver River Falls, Huron River Falls and the Mouth of the Huron, all of which are located close to the house. Beautiful scenery and the maps were very helpful. There was even a resident deer we saw daily as we came and went from the house and Canadian geese and seagulls entertained almost daily.
We will definitely be booking again with the Thoresen's when coming back up to the U.P. They were very easy to deal with and were very prompt responding to all our questions. I have already referred several people to this house for their Michigan vacation.
We've stayed here twice now; once in 2012 and again in 2015. The U.P. is simply beautiful and so is the home. The owners were very responsive to my inquiries and provided lots of helpful information by email, describing the area attractions as well as important facts about the home and its amenities.
And amenities there are in abundance! The information in the listing is accurate. The house is filled with lots of thoughtful extras. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed for our family. Internet and cable TV are available for the technophiles, while for the outdoor lovers -- well let's just say it's a paradise. My favorite activity was sitting out by the fire pit in the cool evening air. Firewood is generously supplied. My wife loves kayaking and it was here in 2012 that my youngest son learned to kayak with his mom for the first time.
The property has private lake frontage and it starts out nice and shallow which was perfect for our boys to swim -- and easy for launching kayaks too. Even though it's Lake Superior, the bay where the home is located is fairly shallow and in late summer it's warmer than the main part of Lake Superior. Still, the water temperature can vary, so if the weather is unlucky and there's rain and several cloudy days in a row, the water can be chilly.
I got some of the best sleep of my life in the master bed with the attic fan running at night to pull in the cool nighttime air. Even in August it was 40s/50s at night. There's something peaceful and invigorating about that fresh nighttime U.P. air that no hotel AC could ever duplicate. Can't sleep? Step outside and be awed... a clear night sky here is absolutely breathtaking. Wake up to a hot cup of coffee in the morning and ... bliss.
Of all the vacation spots our family has ever stayed, this home ranks near the top of our list. Thinking of staying here? You will not be disappointed. Five stars.
The lake house was wonderful. Great view and location. I don't know how old it is but it looks like it was just built. Hugh great room with fireplace. My wife's parents lived and are buried in the area.
We visit the area every couple years. We will stay here again. If it is booked we will change our vacation dates so we can stay here. Joe and Joyce were very pleasant people to deal with.

Beautiful Huron Bay, a sheltered body of water, is noted for good fishing, boating and family activities. Hiking trails and country roads provide access to the unspoiled beauty of the area and wildlife is a natural part of the landscape. Thoresen's on Huron Bay is a marvelous place to wind down, disengage, relax and enjoy a disappearing part of our country.
Golf: A 9 hole public golf course is available about 15 miles away in L'Anse.
