About Carolyn Thibideau

My husband, Bob and I have enjoyed owning our vacation home since 1985. We brag about our four grown sons, our three daughters in law and our nine grandchildren. We are both professional musicians. I am a retired music director and organist at a Presbyterian church, now a freelance organist/director, and retired public school music teacher. My husband is retired from his business career, played percussion both classical and jazz. We both enjoy our vacation home and the most fun of all is having the family there with us.

Carolyn Thibideau purchased this house in 1985

Why Carolyn Thibideau chose Northern Michigan

We chose this location because we like Crooked Lake, swimming, boating and all that the area has to offer. We also enjoy the winter skiing, the summer concerts at the Bay View Music Festival just five miles away. There are lots of fine restaurants nearby and fun shopping in Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Charlevoix. Newly completed bike trail one block from the house.

What makes this house unique

Crooked lake is always a real pleasure. Swimming, boating or simply looking at it's beauty with the hills behind it, the sunrise in the morning, the waterfowl on the lake, and the colorful wind surfers. It is always interesting, always beautiful. A favorite is the one mile lighted walk along the lakeshore - just out the door.

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

My Family was looking for a home and a great renter and Carolyn was incredible! As we both searched for dates that worked, she was patient, understanding, and tried as hard as we did to make it work! I recommend her and this home!

We love this place and look forward to coming back . We had a wonderful time and found this vacation home to be perfect for our needs. It is well equiped and very clean. The walk by lake shore at night is lovely. We found the lake to be perfect for swimming with sandy bottom and excellent for boating. The lakefront is beautiful with a well maintained yard with many flowers and bird feeders with choice birds visiting every day. There is plenty of outside lawn furniture and a fire pit for bonfires. The home is spacious and well furnished - even has a piano. Our grandchildren love it so much that they always ask when are we going back. We feel the same, and look forward to returning again soon.

Vacation Rental - short notice

  • 3 of 5

On a short notice we rented this home for a week’s vacation. The back yard is very lovely and decorated nicely with flowers, bird feeders and patio furniture. The inside of the house contained the necessary amenities; however the kitchen could use updating to make it a more user friendly layout. The biggest drawback to this vacation home is the position of the house in relation to route 31. The house is located directly on route 31, which is a very high traffic road. The noise from the traffic made it difficult to hear the television in the family room, plus made it hard to sleep at night with the windows open.

Outstanding home & location, great value

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home on short notice in summer 2010, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. The owners are very friendly, honest, and easy to deal with. They have owned the home for decades, and use it themselves most of the time, so it is very well kept. The bedrooms are large and have incredible views of Crooked Lake. The front room has a huge window overlooking the backyard and the lake. The yard itself is very private (surrounded by hedges) and beautiful, with plenty of room for the kids to play. It also has a large bonfire pit 5 feet from the shoreline. The water is shallow for about 100 feet out from the dock, and it is a mostly sandy bottom. You can fish right off the dock. The home is also very close to two marinas (one of them is only 7/10 of a mile, and is accesible by a lakefront sidewalk). Petoskey is an easy 7-8 minute drive, and Mackinaw City is an 30 minute shot right up Rt 31 from here. If you like to run or walk, this location is outstanding. The sidewalk that runs right in front of this home, extends for about 1 mile right along the shoreline!. In addition, there is an old abandoned rail line about 200 yards away that has been transformed into a hiking path through the woods, running for many miles in both directions. We have been vacationing on Crooked Lake since the 70's, and I would recommend this home to anyone. This home is ideal for sharing between two families. If you get the opportunity to stay here on vacation, jump all over it!
