Step back in time to 1914, to a lovely solid brick Victorian. Enjoy the spacious rooms; the wrap-around porch; the summer porch overlooking the Victorian garden; and much more. The setting is Ranson, West Virginia - the neighboring hamlet of Charles Town,WV. Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, The Robinson House guest home offers an alternative to a motel and to the bed and breakfast inns. Our guests have the opportunity to rent the entire home. If you are a business traveler; vacationing in the historical Shenandoah Valley; or just in the area for a get-away weekend, you can enjoy the amenities and privacy of your home away from home.
The Robinson House is the perfect setting for the couple wanting to experience the historical flavor of the area; for a family attending a wedding, or reunion; the business traveler; or a writer needing quiet inspiration. We can also accommodate your business retreat; meeting; party; or small reception.

A native of Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Joyce was educated at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. She has made West Virginia her home for 44 years. She and her husband purchased The Robinson House in 2005 from the former owners who were moving to a retirement community. The plan was to make the home into an extended stay. After working on the home for over a year, Joyce decided she wanted to share the history of the area and house with others. Thus was born the idea of the 'guest house' - a home away from home. The home is Joyce's version of a bed and breakfast without actually serving breakfast. Gourmet food is stocked in the refrigerator and guests enjoy the home and food at their leisure.
Joyce Garrison purchased this house in 2005
Too many old homes are destroyed to make room for parking or offices buildings. I wanted to preserve an example of quality craftsmanship and character that is lost on newer homes today. The Robinson House has the original woodwork and varnish; plaster walls; light fixtures and bathrooms. It does have updated electric, plumbing and heating (heat pumps).
One could say The Robinson House is my doll house! I love the wrap-around front porch with the rocking chairs; the rose garden; the old flower beds filled with perennials from a by gone era and the fish pond. The home represents to me a special time in history where life moved at a slower pace and people cared about their friends and neighbors.
Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality! The Robinson House is absolutely beautiful and everything was perfect for our stay. We really appreciated how you went out of your way to prepare for our stay and to make us comfortable while we were here. Your definitely went above and beyond! God Bless,
The house is beautifully maintained. Everything you need is there for you. No need to travel with extras because the owner has already thought of it. It is a great place to relax. Drinks by the poolside are a must. It is also a wonderful "home" base for day trips. Much to do. Harpers Ferry and all things historical. Frederick, Maryland was a beautiful walking town only about 1/2 hour away. Shops, antiques, restaurants and of course history. And don't forget D.C. It is a little farther but not too far for a day trip.
The owner was very helpful and keep the house in good order with a personal touch. For us, the lack of proper TV's was a negative along with the number of cats allowed to stay on the premises.
We used this house to stay while visiting family in the area. The house is spacious, comfortable, clean and not lacking anything. Front porch was enjoyed by all in the evening and we will likely stay here again .
I travel here once a year for an electric car event. You can walk to APUS and plug your car in (they have 14 charging stations). The owner is very hospitable and the place has everything you need. It's a very historic property and very well maintained. Highly recommended!
The property was gorgeous and the owner was very generous. It is a beautiful property and has been taken care of beautifully. I would highly recommend and plan to return.
Myself, my husband and another couple stayed at this beautiful historic home for a weekend of adventure. We arrived Friday evening to a very clean and comfortable home. The amount of detail that the owner has poured into this home is amazing. Once you enter you can tell how much she loves this house and you cannot help but to love it too. The yard and pool are also very well maintained and we were sad that we did not get a chance to take advantage of the pool. This location was perfect if you plan on tubing or checking out the horse races.....or just relaxing. The extra touches, like the yummy chocolate chip cookies and filled fridge, makes the stay even more enjoyable. Thank you Joyce for everything- we do look forward to coming back again!
