STOWAWAY is a breezy two story town house; excellent for two couples or a family. It is part of a small, 8 unit group known as VILLAS ON THE UPPER DECK. It is located just above town, making car rental optional. Three grocery stores are a short walk away.

The first floor consists of entry foyer, living, dining, kitchen, laundry, half bath, dining deck, and deck overlooking the pool and with views of St.Croix, The upper floor has two very separate bedrooms each with its own bath and deck. One bedroom has an added sleeping loft.

Gardens, tropical trees and a new pool create a West Indies feeling. Views are fantastic.

You will be met at the ferry, taken to the grocery and settled into your villa by your personal greeter, who will be able to answer all your questions and be available by phone during your stay.

About Marcia Darnell

As a yacht designer, I have sailed most of the Caribbean. St John is by far the best place to live and vacation. You will also be talking to my daughter, Marcia, who manages the bookings and finances. My home, Callaloo, is mid island on St John, and my boat is in Coral Bay.

Before buying in St. John, We considered settling on St. Barths. I weighed the pros and cons of each place. St. Barths offers a bit of Paris (a place I adore), but St. John offered a lot more of everything else. Dependable, affordable phone and internet service, 22 beaches, good dining (although pricey), affordable air fares, hiking trails, and the heavy hand of the US Government which keeps St. John safe, beautiful, and accessible to all.

We respect nature, wildlife, beaches, reefs, and the sea. We adore our wild donkeys!

Notes:
The Villa is located on The UPPER DECK, which was the sight of the first restaurant on St. John. It was located there because of the view and was the sunset gathering spot of the island. A hurricane destroyed all but one building in 1989. The restaurant never re-opened, but the houses were re-designed and re-built. Another hurricane in 1995 struck, but damaged only the exterior decks and a few windows.

Wonderful views, outstanding service and great amenities – what’s not to love?

Stowaway was a great choice for our family – the views are great, the pool is right below the balcony so we could let the kids go by themselves and still see/hear, it is well stocked/furnished to prepare meals (barbecued a couple of times and the blender is great for making island beverages) and in a private lush setting while still being very close to Cruz Bay. The booking process, helpful information before we got there and arrival/greeting was very smooth, and when we did have a small problem (fan went out in the loft), it was taken care of that day. Overall it was a fantastic vacation and definitely recommend Stowaway!

Wonderful time at Stowaway

Stowaway is very well situated on St. John. From the rental you have a great view of the south eastern shores from the balcony. In addition, it is very close to Star Market and town restaurants (5 min drives). The property has a beach vibe and is very spacious for us (2 couples). This place also have most of the amenities that you would expect from the states including washer/dryer + dish washer.

While there we recommend all the public northern beaches (Hawknest, Maho, Trunk, Cinnamon, Francis, 20 minutes hike on flat terrain to Waterlemon). The hike to petroglyphs was fun and shaded but neither the petroglyphs nor the beach at the end were highlights. Do it for the hike not the destination. However, the hike at Ram's Head is good. The beach at the beginning/end (Salt Pond Bay) is good.

Finally, the rental process with Marcia was easy making the rental process a breeze

2nd time at Stowaway. Best time at Stowaway!

This was the second time we stayed at Stowaway. Great place for the money. We got married in St John this year and this was our go-to place. Bruce was proactive and very willing to assist us. He picked up a beach umbrella right away after I noticed the one that was there the year before was gone. Highly recommended for the adventurous type!

BEYOND WONDERFUL!

We loved staying here at Stowaway! This was our first time in St Johns and the comfort and the charm of the property made it a wonderful place to hang your hat after busy days and nights exploring the island. The property was very well stocked! We did a few dinners at home and it was a nice break to the pricey meals in some of the restaurants! Having all the beach chairs, towels , and the cooler was a blessing! We checked out a new beach every day. We were able to pack sandwiches, snacks and drinks which helped keep the budget down! Stowaway was very convenient! We would absolutely come back and hope that it will be sooner then later! Thanks to Georgia, David and Marcia! You were wonderful hosts!

Location, Location, Location.. View from both decks was amazing. Stayed at Stowaway for 7 nights. Bruce (employee) met us at the Starfish Market ,took us to our villa and got us settled in for our stay. Beach chairs, floats and coolers all on site made our trips out to the beach's very enjoyable. Close to gas station , market's and downtown Cruz Bay. Bedrooms are upstairs and very private from the living area down stairs. great for a family or two couples. Marcia was continuously in touch by phone or email. I also must mention the PRICE was right. I would stay at Stowaway on a return trip.

Relaxation, Quiet, Views!

Our family of 4 (2 teens) had a wonderful 8 day vacation at Stowaway! The location was perfect, and it was spotlessly clean. Communication with the owners was impressively prompt. Marcia was always available throughout the booking process and provided many helpful suggestions. David was a great host who picked us up at the ferry, waited while we checked out our rental, and gave us a tour on the way to the villa. The condo was spacious, and comfortable, with great views from 2 decks. We loved having coffee and baked goods from Baked in the Sun Bakery on the deck while watching a great variety of birds. We felt it necessary to rent a car, and 4WD came in quite handy-highly recommend it for the steep hills and sometimes poorly paved roads that lead to some great beaches. There are so many beaches on the island to explore- our favorites were Hawksnest, Cinnamon Bay, and Francis Bay. The markets and restaurants are expensive, so be prepared. We enjoyed many including Virgin Fire, Sun Dog Cafe, Joe's Rum Hut, Lime Inn (great $4 drinks at happy hour!), The Longboard, Cruz Bay Landing, and Vista Mare. Also, don't pass up Skinny Legs- so much fun! Snorkeling is terrific here, and we saw rays at Hawksnest, and a sea turtle, ray and barracuda at Salt Pond as well as many colorful fish. After adventuring around the island, it was so nice to return to Stowaway for a dip in the clean pool ( we were always the only ones there!). The beds were very comfortable, and the AC's in the bedrooms were key, as well as the new screen doors. Would love to return to Stowaway! Thanks to Marcia, David and Georgia!
