We invite you to experience all the wonders of Pele’s home as you explore the Big Island, or simply relax on the lanai and enjoy the simple pleasure of quiet days in old Hawaii. Hiking, ATV tours, and horseback riding are within walking distance, and the historic town of Honoka’a is just a 10 minute drive away. A two minute walk will bring you to the overlook of the revered Waipio Valley, with its spectacular views, thundering waterfalls and black sand beach. Whales visit our islands each winter, and are visible from the deck.

We chose the Hamakua Coast because it gets just enough rain to be lush and green and enjoys lots of sun and amazing views. We chose to be near the Waipio Valley because we love the local people and their affinity for the 'aina, or land. For us, it is important to have our Hawaiian experience be one that honors both people and nature, and we fell in love with the true aloha spirit not always found in more populated areas.
Being on the northern tip of the Big Island, we enjoy the glorious colors at both sunrise and sunset. We love the spectacular views from nearly every room in our home, and learned to appreciate watching the changing colors of the ocean as the weather changes. The stars at night are spectacular!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming home with a wonderful view out to the ocean. It was clean and had all the housekeeping items that were needed to make the 4 of us very comfortable. The neighborhood was very quiet and the proximity to the Waipi-o Valley overlook was nice. The closest little town was a fun place for coffee and shopping.
From the moment we set foot on this property, we felt a sense of peace. This wasn't just a rental house, it felt like our home! All was accurately depicted, it was extremely clean, and the pillows and bed linens smelled fresh. We chose the softer mattress in bedroom next to the kitchen. The chorus of frogs sang us to sleep at night. We lounged on the porch and watched the ocean for whale's spouting. We hiked to Waipio Valley, waded on the Black Sand beach, and loved feeling at one with God's creation. Victoria, the housekeeper, was available for any questions.
We ate breakfast, lunch, and supper several times at Waipio Cookhouse, an A++rating on quality, quantity, and service! Daily specials along with their regular menu of fresh fish, burgers, grilled eggplant, and local farm raised food.
We could easily live in this house forever, and hope to return soon.
Mahalo nui loa Marcie, and Victoria also!

The view and the location are as presented. It is 486 walking steps to the Waipio Lookout. You will be nestled in pure aloha and very comfortable. Marcie is very organized. Communication is easy and informative. Arrival and departure information is thorough and helpful. All aspects of the house are well cared for and clean with beautiful hot water for a super bath or shower. Breakfast on the lanai was a dream. And! We did see whales! Highly recommended!
My wife and I stayed here the 2nd week of November. We had some issues connecting our iPads with the wi-fi but texting with the owner I was able to resolve it fairly quickly (I just rebooted the DSL router and wireless router).
The home is comfortable and has great sunrise views of the ocean. It was also within walking distance of the Waipio valley. The coqui frogs are pretty intense but you easily get used to them. The house had everything we needed and we had a great stay.
Everything was great. Really couldn't have asked for a better place to stay on the Hamakua Coast. All correspondence with owner was fast and accurate. Should we find ourselves on the big island again, we will return.
Marcie has thought of everything! The house was so well stocked that there was nothing we could think of that was not supplied. From beach towels to bakeware and everything in between. Thank you so much for making our stay so comfortable and so easy. We hope to return some day.
