We enjoyed so much our stay in Castine. Castine is a very lovely and quiet town and the house is marvelous ! We felt as we were living in the past in this beautiful historic home but well equipped for the modern life. Everything was as described and was perfect !

Fantastic Location, Unique Home - Would definitely visit again.

  • 5 of 5

If you like to stay off the beaten path, Castine is a great place to relax and enjoy History, water activities, and the views. The home is very unique and has an amazing history. It is not the place if you are looking for a super luxury home. But, it has enough conveniences and a lot of space. The antiques in the house and many original features make it interesting and enjoyable. The location is fantastic. Basically across the street from the Castine Visitor Center where we met the town historians who were extremely helpful. One block form the bay, and next door to the town store. One block away are a couple of restaurants (must try the bakery) and a kayaking tour place. We took the night tour. It was magical. Driving to Acadia was about 75 minutes, and it made a great day trip. It made coming back to the quite town even more enjoyable. Stonington is about 40 minute drive and it is an active lobster fishermen community. We took the boat tour from there. Very authentic and enjoyable experience. In all, this is a great home and a beautiful location to enjoy the east Maine coast experience.

Historic Home in a Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed in this lovely Maine home several times over the past few years and count it among our favorite vacation destinations. The home is located in the middle of a thriving Down East town with shops, restaurants, galleries and waterfront all visible from the front windows! The owners were very knowledgeable about the local scene and provided many useful recommendations. The home is multilevel with much old New England charm. There is even a small "theater" on the second floor which actually hosted performances by many previous occupants. Highly recommended for anyone who has a love for colonial history and, of course, the waterfront.

Beautiful, elegant home in center of Castine

  • 5 of 5

Eight of us rented this property for four nights during Memorial Day weekend 2013. The property did not disappoint. It is as advertised: It overlooks the main part of a small, charming, waterfront village on the coast of Maine.

The property: The home has all the necessary modern amenities while also maintaining its traditional charisma. The layout of the home is just wonderful. The space between the downstairs living room and the upstairs bedrooms allow peace and quiet for those wanting to go to bed early. The rooms downstairs are very roomy and comfortably seat large groups. The bedrooms are very large, which was perfect for our group as we needed extra space to all dress and prepare for a wedding. The bathrooms were spacious, clean and with plenty of hot water (and great shower water pressure!) for our group of 8. I would say that if your group includes young children, there may be some fragile items you would want to move out of reach before they are broken.

The village: The village was just what we hoped it would be. It is a quaint Maine town, right on the water. It was very quiet the weekend we were there as it was so early in the summer season. Within 2 blocks of the house are a breakfast/lunch café, a cute little lobster shack on the water, numerous restaurants and bars. Also, the waterfront is about 1 block from the front door of the house. It was cold and rainy the weekend we were there, but I would imagine later in the summer the waterfront would be alive and beautiful. The town is also perfect for running, cycling and hiking if you want to do a shorter outdoors activity without driving to Acadia.

The renters: The owners of the house and the rental manager were very helpful throughout our entire renting process. They were easy to contact and quick to reply via phone and email.

I would happily recommend this rental property to anyone looking to stay in a beautiful home in a small, quiet, quintessential Maine town, right on the coast.
