The unique aspect of this chalet style mountain home is its beautiful serene and scenic location. The choice is yours whether you prefer to simply relax without a care in the natural quietude under the Continental Divide of the Rocky Mountains, or engage in the numerous mountain activities at your doorstep. The right combination of both is waiting for you.

A Colorado native, I've lived in all parts of the state. I know what I love about Colorado and I spent years searching for the location that has it all. Well, when I found this home, I spent one hour without saying a word looking it over, then when the owner said 'What do you think?', I said 'Sold.' And I've been sold on it ever since. I actually get excited with the thought of vacation renters enjoying my place. (No, I do not stay here when it is rented to you.) I love sharing the specialness of my home. Everything special about Colorado is within immediate reach from this location. The dramatic and rugged wilderness of the Continental Divide, to the cultured sophisticated amenities of the City of Boulder. Anything you're in the mood for is only minutes away.
Claude 'Larry' Fox purchased this chalet in 2003
As I said in my profile, I bought this home because in itself and in its surroundings, it constitutes the best of Colorado. This is my home and not merely a 'rental', but of course I do not stay here when I rent it out to you..
In the summer I love the balmy gentle warm breezes so much that I never want to go to bed.
In the winter the snow is beautiful and the occasional moose and elk herd that surrounds the house is a real treat to see.
This was a WONDERFUL house for us. Way out in the country with beautiful views and plenty of room for 5 teenagers and 4 adults. Very peaceful, quiet and off the beaten track. We all loved it. Breakfast on the deck every morning. It was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed including a hot tub for after horseback riding. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. The owner and caretaker where very friendly and helpful. Thanks Larry I hope we can get back again.
My fiancé and I rented Larry's cabin for my 30th Birthday Weekend. I booked late and arrived early, but Larry was more than accommodating! We really appreciated the extra effort he put into making our stay ultra comfortable. We found the home very cozy and enjoyed warming up next to the fire place after a dip in the hot tub. We also had a great time grilling on the back deck and trying out our piano and drum skills in the music area - a really fun addition! It was just the 2 of us, but the cabin can house quite a few guests with ample bedding and common space. I would highly recommend to others!
Overall we liked this place. It was very secluded and quiet. The views and wildlife were great. There is a 30 min drive down the mountain but I thought it was nice drive.
The inside of the house was clean, kind of made you feel like you were visiting your grandparents house. The living furniture was a bit worn but still comfortable. The master bdrm (where my sister slept) was warm and the bed was nice. I slept in the room right next to her and I wasn't as comfortable. My room was freezing, like no matter how high the heat was the room was cold! Also the bed and pillows could use a bit of updating... Oh and we had to time our showers, if not then the last person in definitely got a cold shower.
The owner was cool too. Larry came and shoveled the deck for us. We left the car lights on and he was kind enough to let us know. Real chill guy.
We had a group of 5 stayed at Larry's cabin two nights and were expecting to be able to sit on the deck and hike the woods all day. Unfortunately, it rained the whole time we were there and the fog visibility was about 30 feet. Despite being bummed about the weather, we had an AWESOME time. The feel of his cabin is very cool 70s so we channeled our inner Fleetwood Mac and made up songs with his instruments and walked around draped in blankets drinking coffee and champagne. We set our alarms for 5am to try to spot some morning wildlife but due to the fog, we just watched the mountains drift in and out of view and listened to coyotes howling. The hot tub and grill were lifesavers, as was his collection of board games and jazz music. We wish we could have stayed much longer!
Larry's directions to the cabin are a must-print as they were easy to follow when we lost reception. A beautiful 20 minutes drive into Boulder and so you can raid all the cool coffee shops and used book stores. Loved this place!
We did our homework before booking this house. Read the fairly numerous good reviews and studied the profile carefully. To our satisfaction, the reviews were spot on, and the description was as well!
The house is very roomy and clean. Nothing fancy...but who needs fancy when you are staying in the rustic mountains? The large deck that surrounds almost the entire house is great. Not to mention the very large hot tub, which our kids especially (surprise!) enjoyed! The drive up to the house is nice because towards the end, the paved road turns into a dirt one...to us making it all the more "mountain-y" feeling, lol!
When driving up to this house, make sure you do not take the first dirt driveway up to the house, (like we did), but the second one, which goes around to the front of the house. The first driveway is for the caretaker that lives on the bottom level of the house. We were just a teeny weeny uncomfortable with having a stranger living in the same house (although his quarters are blocked from the rest of the house on the inside), but the man living there seemed pretty nice, and was only there in the evenings. He does seem to take care of the property, and is there to fix anything that might need attention...although everything was working pretty well during our stay. We did mention to the owner that the dryer did not dry the clothes all the way, so he is looking into that.
This house had everything we needed (and wanted) to have a nice, relaxing, family time just outside of Boulder....with beautiful views of the mountains from the front of the house! We would definitely go back!!
We had a group of eight, and we enjoyed every minute! Larry (The owner) left goodies, and cute notes around the house! The fireplace, hot tub, piano and drum set made for many memorable moments! Then, you are only 25 minutes or so from downtown Boulder! There was plenty of space for everyone, and the loft and treehouse made us all feel like kids again! The view from the HUGE deck is amazing! Don't miss out on this opportunity if you like adventure! (You may hear wolves/coyotes at night and possibly see bears or more!) We can't wait to go back again!!!! Thank you so much Larry!
Cross Country skiing and Snow-shoe hiking can be done out of the house on National Forest Land where there are old mining and logging roads which provide a good path for these activities. A trip down Boulder Canyon is a worthwhile and scenic ride. There are brooks, rivers and lakes in the area. Rocky Mountain National Park is nearby as are old mining and gambling towns like Central City and Blackhawk. Hiking will provide beautiful views of the Continental Divide and Rock Mountians.
