THIS IS THE BEST LOCATION AND BEST PRICE FOR LOCATION, COMFORT, AND CONVENIENCE. Enjoy our remodeled and comfortable island original, located at the prestigious north point of Anna Maria Island across the street from the landmark Rod and Reel Pier. This pier has one of the best restaurants on the island serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner while offering deck seating overlooking experienced anglers catching a wide variety of fish. Wildlife such as dolphins, manatees, pelicans, etc. can be seen while enjoying dinner. Meet new and old friends at the friendly and eclectic bar downstairs where reasonably priced libations and snacks are served. Crab cakes, clam chowder, and grouper sandwiches are the best on the island and don't forget to try their Pier

The pier also provides fishing equipment rentals, daily fishing licenses for sale, and bait. There is no excuse for not trying your hand at angling. If you catch a keeper, walk across the street and cook it on the house grill or ask the chef at the pier if they would prepare if for your dinner that evening.

Sugar sand beaches filled with shells, sand dollars and star fish are across the street on the Bay side or 3 blocks away on the Gulf side. About Sharon McManus Comkowycz

Paul and Sharon Comkowycz have been married for 43 years and currently reside full time in Winter Haven, Florida. We spend every available weekend at Anna Maria Is with our grand daughter, family, and friends. We've been enjoying this island paradise for 34 years as we found this beach location we love after moving from New Haven, Ct. Our plans are to retire to this beach community and in the meantime, we rent our house to guests during the winter season and occasional weeks at a time during the off season and summer.

Sharon McManus Comkowycz purchased this cottage in 1985

Why Sharon McManus Comkowycz chose Anna Maria

Anna Maria is only 1 hour 45 minutes from our home in Winter Haven. The beaches are the finest in the world. Close proximity to Tampa, Sarasota, and Bradenton added to the quality of life we experience when vacationing on the island. We are not far from the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, St. Armand's Key in Sarasota, and the Mote Aquarium and research center in Bradenton. We chose our current beach house after owning another on the gulf side of the beach but preferred the location near the Rod and Reel Pier and the size of our 3 bedroom 2 bath house.

What makes this cottage unique

Bike Riding, Kayaking, Fishing, Reading, Walking, Naping, Watching Movies, Meeting new People, Eating out at some of the best restaurants in Sign of the Mermaid, Sand Bar, Beach Bistro, Rod and Reel.

Map

The Red Fish Cottage is a FIND at this price at the highly coveted north point of AMI. The located is in the premier location of Anna Maria Island where both the gulf and bay beaches can be accessed. North end is north of Pine Ave. The house is located directly across from the Rod and Reel Pier where visitors can fishing from the pier where fishing licenses and bait may be purchased. The Rod and Reel provides great fishing and the opportunity to sit on the water and enjoy a drink while watching birds/fish/ocean habitat and to meet people from many different locations.

They serve wonderful breakfasts such as eggs cooked to order and specialty omelets such as their famous seafood omelet. Lunch and dinner feature fresh fish entrees and their notable Pier Burger served with fries or yummy onion rings. Downstairs locals and out of town guests share $1.50 draft beer and wine while enjoying good tunes, sports TV, friendly bar tenders, and the opportunity to meet and make new friends from around the world.

The Rod and Reel Pier is GREAT for entertaining the kids and adults but to me, the most amazing benefit from renting or beach house is that you are only 3 blocks from the most beautiful sunsets and bird watching on Bean Point, the northern most point of the island. Here you can watch competing tides provide food for all varieties of birds while you walk leisurely along our world famous sugar sand beaches. These relaxation and special energy you feel is unparalleled by any other beach you have visited. The experience is memorable and uniquely special.

Finally, the shopping and food you will encounter while exploring Bud Chiles project to revitalize the Pine St. scene is enough to round out the magic of the north section of Anna Maria Island.

If you wish to leave the island to expand your vacation experiences, you couldn't be located in a better place with Sarasota and St. Petersburg are only 45 min. to 1 hour away. Bradenton Beach and the city of Bradenton are only 20-30 minutes away with cinemas, other restaurants, shopping, etc.

For the kids and ocean lovers, Mote research and museum are available for exploring and learning about ocean life and how to preserve our fragile coastal areas.

if you decide to stay at our Red Fish Cottage and find other things your greatly enjoyed and were made available to you during your stay on the island, please communicate your discoveries so that I may post them into my site.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

We always enjoy our visit to Anna Maria Island, this being our third. We stayed at Red Fish Cottage for a month and found that everything we needed was there. The cottage is very well situated for a short walk to the beach, the Rod and Reel Pier and Restaurant and for spectacular sunsets at Bean Point. The screened front porch was very pleasant. If there was any disappointment, it was the back yard furniture (unable to sit on it, rusty) and the back yard but in all fairness the landlord (Sharon)warned us about the back yard. In conclusion, Sharon was very pleasant and accommodating to deal with.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

This is the 2nd year we have rented the Red Fish Cottage on the north end of Anna Maria Island, Florida. We must have missed the notification that VBRO changed it's procedure for renting... we wanted it for next year but found out from the owner it had already been spoken for. How disappointing. Sharon was great to work with and we really enjoyed being there. The location can't be beat!! The cottage is very comfortable and handy to the Rod and Reel Pier, beach walking, shell collecting, and shops/activities on Pine Ae.

We love Anna Maria Island and Red Fish Cottage offers a prime location to visit Bean Point Beach, Rod & Reel Pier,

Anna Maria Pier, Trolley, & shopping within walking distance. We enjoy the front screened porch, and sunning and

cooking on the back deck. The new kitchen and bathroom are great. The cottage is comfortable & homey. The owners are friendly and pleasant to deal with. The cottage is quaint and totally fits the Anna Maria vibe!

Great Time at Red Fish

  • 5 of 5

Coming from upstate NY, my wife and I rented the cottage sight unseen, except for the website photos, for the month of March.

In short, it was great!

We had a constant stream of visitors, including twin 3-year old grandsons, and everything worked out wonderfully. The location is superb... just an easy 20-30 minute walk to the village and some great (and funky) shops and restaurants. More importantly, it's right across the street from the Rod and Reel Pier restaurant, which is, itself, a treat and, literally, just minutes from the beaches (and sunsets!).

The cottage itself was in great shape. Everything worked well and the owners allowed us to borrow some of the beach things stored in the garage.

One of the things that our family enjoyed the most was the fact that it is a beach cottage and is extremely comfortable and unpretentious. We could relax and enjoy it without feeling that we were in a museum.

Probably the best endorsement we can offer is that we've already booked next March as well and, along with our family, are already looking forward to our stay.

Meaford

This cottage was wonderful! The interior was beautifully decorated, and the owner was wonderful to deal with. The backyard was better than anticipated; it was not manicured by any means, but lovely to sit on the back deck or to barbeque. And the location was perfect! It was just a few minutes to a gorgeous beach. The lanai was our favourite spot to read a book or just relax with out coffee in the morning. The beds in the third bedroom were very uncomfortable, but I'm told they're being replaced. This bedroom also has the only access to the backyard, so it must be walked through to get there, which was mildly inconvenient. The traffic on the island is also horrendous. Between 10 and 5 it was a headache to get anywhere. We were there for two months and had very little concerns, all of which the owner handled wonderfully. All in all a great vacation!

Terri - Winter Haven Fl

Our family of four stayed here August of 2011. The house is perfect for a family, plenty of room for everyone. It was very clean and the new bathroom and kitchen are great. My teen son loved the WiFi, so he could play his video games. I loved that is is so close to the beaches. You just grab your towel, snorkel and mask and walk just a block in either direction and you are at the most beautiful beaches in the world. My husband loved that the fishing pier was right across the street and loved the gas grill on the back deck. We all loved to eat over at the pier and loved to see the dolphins playing right in front of us. We also saw manatees, starfish, sand dollars, sea snails and stingrays. No need to go to the aquarium, it was right across the street. Look forward to our next trip.
