My husband designed and built this home. He is a jack of all trades. He is a builder, a Real Estate broker and also a Commercial Salmon Fisherman. I have an Alaskan Real Estate license as well. I have been a Property Manager for several nightly rental & Long-Term Condos for 7 years. Making the choice to open our home to share with other people goes right along with my current business. We have a son who is 9 years old. We both love Alaska and Girdwood. Girdwood is a great place for basing your stay. You can make day trips to Seward or Whittier as well as enjoy the great scenery and local activities. Having our home as a base, you might be so comfortable in the home that you forget to step outside. The logs have such a warm appeal to them, it is definitely like being in a home away from home.
Kimberly Duncan purchased this lodge in 1997
We built the home intending to do bed & breakfast. We did operate a very successful B&B there for over 10 years.
The home is very Large and the main living area is all open. This is nice for larger groups going on a trip together; they will not feel like they are stepping on each others toes. Large enough to find their own little area for quiet time if they want.
Our son and daughter-in-law rented the lodge for their wedding. It is in a lovely setting. It accommodated 30 wedding guests very nicely for a wedding on the deck. It has a huge kitchen capable of feeding the entire crowd. The party went from Wed evening until Mon with most meals eaten there. It was clean when we arrived and had a well supplied kitchen. Victor explained how everything worked when they arrived. The hot tub was enjoyed by several.
A wonderful ski weekend for our entire family.
Beautiful home, abundantly appointed with all expected amenities and more. Well organized and incredibly clean. Convenient location to access all the sights and things to do in this area. Great communication during the entire process down to the smallest of details. All this at the price of a couple of hotel rooms. Could not recommend this property any more highly. You won't be disappointed!
We spent time here on our recent trip to Alaska with our adult children. What a house!! the common living area was fantastic with much space, good views, great kitchen and a hot tub! Kimberly was a most gracious host that took care of all of our needs with incredible service! I would highly recommend this house to others.
Now for the real review! The house is amazing, the owner however is not. My family and I stayed there for 6 days, and we were constantly harassed/checked up on by the owner. She showed up at the house unexpectedly 3 times throughout our stay. She said she needed to come by and "water her outdoor plants" (even though it was going to rain the next day) and shortly after she left we received an email stating everything we were doing "wrong." She told us not to turn on specific lights in the kitchen because "the bulbs are difficult to change." There is a jacuzzi there, but the owner clearly states that you MUST shower before entering the spa, AND after.. don't forget to adjust the chlorine levels as well! No shoes in the house! Make sure you put your children's diapers in a plastic bag and then into the trash can! For someone who receives a large amount of money per night for her home, she was awfully frugal, strict, and unpleasant. Overall, the attitude of the owner tainted the beauty, comfort, and enjoyment of the house.
This is a spectacular home in Girdwood perfectly positioned for hiking and biking or just hanging out. The living areas are spacious and the house very well equipped. We were there for a wedding at the Alyeska Resort and staying in this house was a much better option than the hotel. Kimberly is a gracious host and took very good care of us. We had a small plumbing problem on the weekend (it happens) and she was all over it. If you stay here don't forget to check out the Double Muskie in Girdwood. But if you plan to cook, buy groceries in Anchorage. You can get pretty much whatever you need in Girdwood but it is oh so pricey.
We had an amazing week in Alaska. This house was perfect for a family with older children. Our kids are 20, 22, 25 and 26 and it was perfect. Everyone had their own space. Also this was the most equipped house we have ever rented before and very nice items. Cookware and dishes were exceptional. I would stay here again if we ever go back to Alaska. The owner was great at recommending outfits to call for adventures like fishing, hiking, ice climbing etc and everyone she recommended was just the same - EXCEPTIONAL!!! Excellent house to rent and excellent owner to rent from.
Located in the beautiful valley of Girdwood. Home to Mt. Alyeska and the Alyeska Ski Resort. Fantastic Scenery, Glaciers, Wildlife. Great Skiing. The Drive from Anchorage to Girdwood is approximately 40 minutes, and is one of the most Scenic Drives in All of Alaska. Whittier is 30 minutes and Seward is approximately an hour and a half from Girdwood, making this location the perfect place to base out of.
