Eagle Mountain Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

The cabin on Mississippi Ridge sits atop Eagle Mountain overlooking the Mississippi River. Experience the tranquility of ridge-top lodging, where the river below slows the world to a leisurely pace.

The cabin lies in a secluded section of ridge-top woods teeming with wildlife, and features approximately 1500 square feet with accommodations for six people, including two bedrooms and family room with queen hide-a-bed. Finished with hardwood floor and pinewood ceiling, accented with Driftless area artwork, and illuminated with natural light; the living room captures the character of the landscape.

On Mississippi Ridge is operated by Eric and Betty Frydenlund and their children, part of a family that has been in the lodging business for three generations. The cabin represents the culmination of a two-year search for property overlooking the water. The Frydenlunds have traveled extensively and know from experience the qualities that make a good vacation home. From the curtains on the windows to the board games in the cabinet, everyone has contributed to the cabin’s homelike character. But eventually it’s the view that will have you glancing out the window. The Frydenlunds hope you enjoy the scenery and share the inspiration of the Driftless area.

Comfort on the ridge

  • 5 of 5

We did not find the ridge vacation home to be lacking in any respects. The setting, the design, and the furnishings are so beautiful. The home is spacious enough to accommodate 6 guests and was perfect for just the two of us. This is one of the most vacation friendly homes we have ever rented. The loft master bedroom was so comfortable and enabled us to awaken to this amazing view of the Mississippi river. We have been in love with the Driftless area for many years and this home reinforced our feelings in that regard. P.S. All visitors should read Eric's framed writing "The promise of spring" on display in the family room. We found it very touching.

Owner's Response: David, thanks so much for staying with us! Glad you enjoyed the cabin and especially the view from the loft. As for my essay, I am inspired by the topography of the Driftless area surrounding the cabin, so I find it easy to write about. The unglaciated region of Southwest Wisconsin is a very special place. Hope to see you again in the near future!

Perfect for our quiet weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our weekend stay at On Mississippi Ridge! We were celebrating our anniversary with a rare weekend away without our kids. We were looking for someplace quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of life, and this place really fulfilled that goal!

Despite the somewhat rainy weather, the view was still awesome, and we were able to open the windows and only hear...quiet! It was great!

The driveway to the cabin is somewhat steep...not a problem, just an FYI.

We opted not to do any cooking while we were there; there are limited choices in Ferryville (mostly bar fare...The Wooden Nickel has great burgers!), but lots of great dining options in nearby Prairie du Chien. We also ventured north to De Soto one night and to Stoddard one night for eating out.

We also visited Cabela's in PdC and spent some time touring Villa Louis (very cool if you are a history buff) in PdC. Had the weather been nicer, we probably would have visited Effigy Mounds in nearby Marquette or taken a trip to one of the nearby apple orchards. But, it was somewhat rainy the entire time we were there so we skipped the outdoor activities this time around.

We found the cabin to be very clean, comfortable, and perfect for hanging out for a weekend. It does have satellite and wi-fi as well, if you are worried about being disconnected!

The owner was super receptive to all of my questions, returning all emails very quickly with very friendly manners.

Highly recommend this place and really hope to make a return visit!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking time to write a review! I'm glad you enjoyed the cabin and all the things to do and see in the area. The Driftless topography of Southwest Wisconsin is quite unique and makes for a scenic setting for the cabin. Sounds like the rain curtailed your outdoor activities, but glad you got to enjoy the Villa Louis historic attraction in Prairie du Chien. One of my favorites! Thanks again and hope to hear from you in the future!

Clean, comfortable, cozy cabin on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River.

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I visited this property for our annual getaway trip. Wonderfully quiet setting with river view. All the amenities for a pleasant stay. Easy access to Great River Road exploration including historic river towns, nearby Amish communities, state parks and nature reserves. Experienced and thoughtful host. Recommend this rental without hesitation.

THIRD YEAR FOR VISITING MISSISSIPPI RIDGE

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our visit again this year with beautiful weather and color changes. There were great sunsets and quiet surroundings to make for a wonderful vacation. We enjoy the 5 day stay and will plan on another get away next year. We enjoy going to Gays Mill for the apples and jams! Thanks Eric for the use of your cabin.

Great views and a wonderful place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was a girls get-away weekend for friends who grew up together and it was just delightful thanks in part to everything this rental has to offer. The accommodations were perfect for the three of us, but certainly could easily have held more if needed. The scenery in all regards was spectacular with a great view of the river not only from the property and porches, but from the inside through window and patio doors as well. It is also surrounded by peaceful woods and despite there being some homes nearby, it really gives you the feel of wilderness. The cabin is nicely appointed, very clean, comfortable and welcoming. I would highly recommend this rental as it has so much to offer. Thank you Eric, to you and your family for providing such wonderful accommodations!
