With Tennessee to the North and West and Georgia to the South, Cherokee County, NC is the westernmost county in the State of North Carolina. Surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest and the Nantahala National Forest, Murphy remains a popular Summer and Autumn vacation destination. Located at the intersection of four US Highways and three rivers, the county seat of Murphy continues to have all the charm of a small Southern town. Because a large amount of land within the area is part of the National Forest or held in trust by the US Government for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indian Nation, the unspoiled wildnerness surrounds you wherever you go. Murphy and the surrounding communities offer a wide variety of relaxing nature-oriented activities along with popular attractions for the whole family to enjoy and all within driving distances.

Get away from the heat in the summer and enjoy the outdoors. In the Summer, the temperature ranges from highs in the 80's to low's in the 60's. Go whitewater rafting or zip-lining on the Nantahala River or the Ocoee River. Take a day-trip and drive along the Cherholah Skyway at altitudes in excess of 5000 feet with numerous trail heads, picnic areas, and the beautiful Tellico Falls at the western end.

Tour a winery, go shopping for antiques, or enjoy Downtown Murphy with its quaint shops and terrific restaurants. Take a walk on the Riverwalk along the Hiwassee River. On the first Friday of every month from May to October, local artists and artisans display their works for sale along Valley River Avenue in Downtown Murphy. Weekends offer various flea markets and farmer's market. And, yes, we do have a golf course located in the Upper Peachtree area. You can also enjoy boating, fishing*, and swimming in local lakes.

Leaf changing season usually begins in mid-October with the peak occurring around the first week of November. Early autumn temperatures range from highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's with late Autumn temperatures ranging from highs in the 50's and lows in the 30's. Our average yearly snowfall is only between four and six inches, with the first snowfall usually occurring in late December.

Moose Hollow is also located about one-hour away from Helen, GA and Blue Ridge, GA. We are one and one-half hours away from the south entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

This lovely cabin provides all the comforts and conveniences of home with the beauty of being up in the mountains. Whether you are planning an active-fun filled vacation or just quiet relaxation time, everything you need is here in the wonderful mountains of North Carolina.

This cabin is located just east of Murphy off US Highway 19/74 East. It's about a 3 mile drive up easy winding roads to a private secluded area on one acre of wooded land on Shady Creek Ridge in the Upper Peachtree area. This is a luxury cabin tastefully decorated and fully furnished with all the comforts of home. The cabin is one story, 2 bedrooms (linens provided), 2 full baths (towels provided), full kitchen (all you need to bring are your groceries and paper products), gas log fireplace, washer and dryer, 2 TVs with satellite, VCR/DVD, stereo/CD player, phone (local calls only), ceiling fans, central heat and air conditioning, and large fully covered porch with rocking chairs to enjoy the view and relax while planning your activities.

Thanksgiving family reunion

  • 4 of 5

We have a fantastic weekend with your family ... we celebrate Thanksgiving together .... The location of the cabin is not bad at all it's close to the casinos ..is close to downtown ..... The only part we did not like it is the driveway needs some work ...but besides that it's a nice cabin .

We enjoyed our stay!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. The driveway was fine but not sure how it would be in heavy rains. The neighbors dogs were very friendly and when we came in late at night when it was dark they met us in the road and came up to the house with us which was a good thing because it was very dark at the house. Outside motion lights would be nice. Also more lights in the kitchen would be nice it was hard to read at the table at night. Overall however we had a good time and the cabin was the right price and had everything we needed. The owner Mike was very nice and returned calls promptly. The neighbor was also very nice and helped us with a small issue. We would rent this cabin again. It was really smokey the day we left due to the many brush fires, it's too bad someone did this to this beautiful area. Thanks Mike for everything! Janet Everett, Springfield MA

Very nice cabin with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin on short notice and Rick was very quick to respond to our inquiry. We found the cabin to be very nice, clean and well stocked. It was a very quiet area with daily visits from a neighbors sweet dog. It is away from all the traffic and noise which is great yet very close to so many different areas to visit. We went to Helen GA, Blairsville GA, Hiawassee GA, Blue Ridge - we rode the train there, Murphy, NC is literally 5 minutes away or less and has a lot of restaurants, we visited Cherokee Cellars (they have a wine tasting there and the owners are so nice) and Fields of the Wood. We enjoyed our stay! As others said the drive way is a little steep, we drive a newer model Toyota 4 Runner which is fairly large and had no problem with it. Upon our departure, we followed the directions given and our deposit was returned very quickly. Great property and very attentive owners.

Very nice, clean cabinet with all necessary amenities.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was very clean and had everything needed for a long weekend. We did several day trips to various towns/hikes and the cabin was in the perfect location for easy drives. The driveway is steep and rough in places for a van or car, so that might need to be mentioned in the listing. Overall, our family had a great trip and would certainly stay at Moose Hollow again. Thanks for the opportunity!

Relaxing and away from the hectic lifestyle

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at this cabin just last week, returned 10/7/16. It was off the beaten path and very quiet and very dark. If you want to totally chill out, this is the place for you. The cabin was well kept and the highlight was the neighbor's dog, Gunner, coming to visit each day and then walking us out the lane each day of our adventure. He's a sweetie.

I do have to agree with the other reviews about the master bed, it is not very comfortable at all. But the spare bed is much better. You'll just have to switch beds but one is smaller than the other.

The driveway to the cabin is steep but you will be able to make it as long as it's not ice and snow. Then that would be a bit more difficult for sure.

Everything went well for us and we had no issues getting our deposit back in a timely manner. The owner is quick to respond if you have questions about the cabin.

Enjoy your stay!

Owner's Response: Hello TH, well what can I say, can't please everyone. Pretty much most people love that bed because it's soft, maybe you like a firmer bed which I agree the one in the second room is firmer. I looked through the other reviews and could not find complains about it, actually quite the opposite. It seemed like you enjoyed your stay at Moose Hollow even with the softer bed so I hope you visit again now that you know which bed is more suitable for you. Regards, Rick

Peaceful and perfect

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely perfect and beautiful cabin. I had such a peaceful week. The drive up to the cabin is steep but wasn't a problem for my Mitsubishi. The neighbor does have 2 large dogs that I was worried about hitting when I drove up but the neighbor came out and assured me they would move out of the way. They followed me to the cabin but we're very friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Thanks for sharing your corner of North Carolina!

Kristi
