After the hike to the upper meadow you may want to enjoy the rustic picnic area.

The location of Ridge View Cabin offers exceptional wildlife viewing, and the trail to the upper meadow and on to the state wildlife refuge has views that are breath taking.
Ridge View offers a glimpse of life on the Lazy A Ranch, home to beef cattle, longhorn cattle and Cutting Horses. It is a perfect location to headquarter while visiting the many sites and attractions the Black Hills has to offer.
This was the second time that we have stayed here over Halloween weekend. We love all the room this rental has (inside and out)! Our only issues with this trip was the amount of flies inside (probably time of the year) and there was only one match left to start the fire outside.
This property is easily accessible from the highway, and close enough to town to run in for a meal or groceries. It's got a wonderful porch swing perfect for morning coffee, and a nice view out of every window. It was clean, comfortable, spacious enough for us, and just what we needed. Well stocked with essential equipment. Owner is easy to contact and very responsive. Would definitely stay here again (so we can sit around a campfire in the evening).
My husband and I stayed here in June 2016 with our two adult sons. When we "get away", we really like to get away and have total privacy. This place was soooo wonderful! Quiet, beautiful, serene. And yet, just minutes from the charming town of Hot Springs, and Wind Cave National Park, where we saw wild buffalo and antelope every time we passed through! Close enough to see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devil's Tower, The Badlands, Needles Scenic Highway, Deadwood and so much more! The place was so beautifully decorated as well! We hiked in the hills out back and made it a point to not go anywhere one of our days so we could enjoy the cabin. I can't say enough about our experience in South Dakota, but our home base at the Rigdeview Cabin increased our enjoyment times ten! We plan on coming back and doing all the things we didn't have time to do, and hope to stay in this absolutely wonderful place!
We stayed here for 5 nights in August with our 2 dogs. I wanted to review this place because I have rented from many vrbo owners but this owner/manager stands out above the rest. Not only was this house clean, every little detail was taken care of. There was everything you could possibly need to enjoy this house. There were grilling tools for the grill, skewers to roast marshmallows over the fire pit, 2 bundles of firewood for the fire pit, pots and pans that were in good condition to cook with, a large variety of pots and pans as well, a crock pot, plenty of garbage bags, toilet paper, paper towels, soap for our stay. There was dish soap, brand new sponges, and the list goes on! The owner was also easy and quick to correspond with. The place was thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, and the beds were comfortable. The house had basic cabinetry, and appliances, so it was not a super upscale place, but the decorations sure made the place feel upscale. The selling point to me on this house was the awesome front porch overlooking peaceful quiet country scenery. I would not hesitate to come back to this property again, and would not hesitate to rent other properties from this owner as he manages several. I only wish the owner had told me the wifi in the house should only be used just to check emails. Our family used too much data while we were at the house as our phones shared photos from our trip. The owner politely sent us an email asking us to just use the wifi for emails only as we had used up and exceeded all of the data on his plan. He did not charge us extra for that though, and we could have easily have disabled the photo sharing on our phones if we had known. Anyways, I thought the owner handled that well, but he will probably better inform future renters about the wifi. AT&T gets good service in the area, but that is not the cellphone plan we use, so you will probably not need to worry if AT&T is your provider.
The description of the cabin was right on target, everything was very clean and neat! The cabin was tastefully decorated, we have rented quite a bit over the years and this was the nicest place. We slept peacefully and comfortably. The views are beautiful and so serene. We hated to leave! Wee would definitely rent this property again! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
My husband and I were looking for a place to relax and get away from all the hustle and bustle. We found the perfect vacation home to do just that at the Ridge View cabin. We were so impressed by the careful attention to details, from the lovely artwork and decorative touches to the cleanliness and overall comfort of the cabin. The owners had thought of everything, from making checking in so easy to even having the air-conditioning and the TV on awaiting our arrival. The full kitchen proved very useful, but we also were able to enjoy the local restaurants only three miles away. We truly enjoyed the privacy that the ranch afforded as we would sit on the porch swing in the evening while watching the stars come out above the Black Hills ridge in front of us. But this cabin provides the best of both worlds in that while it provides the peace of a Western ranch setting, it is close to many attractions. We would take day trips easily to Mount Rushmore, the Needles scenic byway, Deadwood with its wild west shows and casinos, and wildlife viewings of buffalo and prairie dogs in the nearby Wind Cave and Custer Parks. We especially enjoyed the Mammoth Site Museum right there in Hot Springs. I would definitely recommend this lovely cabin for anyone wanting to experience a Black Hills vacation.
