Chic, contemporary, light, with a beautiful ocean view, Maunaloa Shores 405 is one of two 1-bedroom Hilo condos we offer. Stylish and affordable, it's just 4 miles from the center of charming Hilo town and right next door to a park with sandy bottom lagoons. This condo was completely remodeled in a modern fashion, but that won't keep you from being transported back to the feel of old Hawaii. Enjoy the ocean views from the bedroom when you wake up or from the lanai as you end your day enjoying our famous warm tropical tradewinds.
The owner has a design background and his creativity shows in the interior of this condo! A light color scheme with an open feel and interesting artwork. Glass tables maintain the open feeling, including a wonderful glass desk. The living area and bedroom both have wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, and you can watch the bedroom TV from a luxurious king bed. The condo has FREE high-speed Internet and a telephone with answering machine and FREE long-distance calling to the U.S. and Canada!
Lots of designer touches include some wonderful lighting and free-floating shelves. A A new kitchen with recent appliances is always a plus when you're staying in a condo. And you will love the bathroom! Aqua-colored floor tiles also surround the tub, and all are lit by wonderful lights. Very cool bathroom.
Walk next door to swim, snorkel, or hang out at the park, or swim in the fresh water pool on the property. On most days you can see steaming Kilauea, our active volcano, from your front door! Or take the 5-10 minute drive to downtown Hilo to the popular Farmer's Market or the shops and restaurants, and don't forget the historic Palace Theater for movies and live theater! Maunaloa Shores is in a very picturesque setting and we never get tired of the beauty this location has to offer.
The Maunaloa Shores condominium complex has a secured elevator and you have an assigned parking space. You'll find a coin-operated washer/dryer on every floor of the complex for your convenience.

The lanai needs some comfortable furniture. The glass desk is too big for the unit. The lighting was hard to figure out.

Older building but well maintained in a beautiful setting.
Loved being on the ocean and swimming with the turtles everyday. Very secure building with easy access to the ocean.
A lovely condo & Turtles!
A 4th floor oasis, looking out over the ocean. I swam with green sea turtles in the adjacent park and met many nice people.
Mary's group were very good guests and we'd rent to them again anytime!
Better than expected
Everything was perfect! The pool is very nice and often deserted. Views are beautiful. We loved this condo!
Good Basic Unit in Great Location
The location of this unit is wonderful, and the views from the lanai are great. The furnishings are quite nice, (although the sofa is a bit short for anyone to lie on it to watch TV,) bed is comfortable. There are a number of issues that were of concern, however. We arrived after dark and initially were only able to turn on a kitchen light missing a few bulbs. It was very difficult to figure out how to turn on the lights in the living room and bedroom. After crawling around on the floor in the bedroom with a flashlight, I discovered one lamp was unplugged, as was one in the living room. Even when plugged in, however, it took a while to figure out how to turn them on. Wall switches turned on the fans, (which did fine to cool the unit) but not the lights on the fans. The rental company was very responsive, and sent someone out to bring some light bulbs and fix a broken lamp. We didn't find out until he came out, however, that the fan lights went on with a remote. We had no idea what those extra remotes were for as there was no note/instruction about it. We found that the kitchen was not particularly well equipped. We were only there for 4 days so it was not a huge deal, but longer it would have been more of an issue. Lastly, the sliding door to the lanai really needs to be fixed. It does not close properly and is very difficult to lock. All that said, if some of these issues were addressed, my rating would definitely be higher.
Thanks for letting us know some issues that we should address -- we will get right on them. Unfortunately, the sliding doors in that building are an issue for everyone, and we have not yet found a good solution, but we'll keep trying! Thanks again for the feedback.
Additional information about rental rates
Rates are based on a party of 2; additional guests are are $10 each per night plus tax. There is a cleaning fee of $120. Extended stays require a monthly cleaning fee. All reservations require a non-refundable $35 damage protection plan and Hawaii taxes of 14.416% We accept major credit cards for payment. We require a 25% deposit to confirm, with the balance due 90 days before arrival. Reservations arriving within 90 days are due in full at the time of booking.
