You can have your cake and eat it too at this truly oceanfront secluded condo on West Bay Beach. Within 25 feet of water's edge you can watch for the emerald flash in air conditioned comfort while you are mixing a Monkey Lala. Or watch your family come and go on the dive boat next door.
This second home is well equipped for any families’ holiday enjoyment. The master suite with king bed is separated from the second bedroom via wide hallway and second bath. A queen bed and a twin bed make up the second bedroom. There are two well made queen sofa beds in the living area.
Each room has remote controlled air conditioning units that are ceiling mounted along with ceiling fans. The large screened sliders can be opened to let in the breeze off the ocean. This unit is connected to the development’s backup generator that is activated automatically when the power goes out.
Next door to this small condo development of 6 units is a small quiet dive resort and on the other side is a large family estate. This development is just a short walk to the major resorts and restaurants on West Bay Beach yet it is secluded from them via the short point of iron shore. There are only private roads along this part of West Bay Beach providing access to residents and guests only.
There are ample dive resorts, restaurants, bars and shopping within a 10 minute walk of this villa so there is no need to have a car to drive to West End for the night life. Yet, you are protected from the hustle, bustle and noise via the barrier created by the short spit or iron shore with a boardwalk over it.
Lived full time on West Bay Beach for 6 years while home schooling son. Left a career in IT Project Management and satellite systems engineering to live my dream on Roatan. While living on the island I developed a botanical bug repellent which is still marketed on the island.
Linda Kay purchased this condo in 2003
It is secluded but with easy access to amenity without crossing a raised bridge or a mountain ridge to get to amenities and the beach. It is a spacious, quiet and well built home.
It is has tremendous views of the water and is right on West Bay Beach. It has easy access to amenity without the traffic and noise associated with being near it.
Absolutely love the location of this condo. Stayed in one of the other units two years ago but this is my second time at Villa Ocean Reef. The unit is spacious and comfortable. It is getting a little tired inside but who really hangs out inside on such a beautiful island? The drinking water and towels are plentiful and kitchen is pretty well stocked. Couches are comfortable if you needs to take a short siesta. Love Las Rocas right next door and being able to walk to the "busy" end of the beach then being able to return to the privacy of the of your own beach. West End is about a 40 minute walk and that is a neat little town as well. Snorkeling can be done straight out from the unit or across from Infinity Bay. Just watch for boats when crossing to the reef from the condo.
My complaints on this condo are minor but are the same complaints I had four years ago. First, the unit smells VERY musty and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some unseen mold going on in there. Second, the bushes are too high and you can not see the ocean without sitting on top of a very uncomfortable fixed structure wooden table (probably my biggest complaint). Third, the small bathroom can be very dark and a clear shower curtain would be helpful to let the light in. Not to mention, it is a challenge to get your entire body under the shower.
Walt Johnson has his name written on everything in that unit so i am assuming he is the owner. Hopefully, he reads the reviews. Bottom line: I would definitely stay here again but might check out one of the other units because of the smell and the view.
We,2 adult couples, recently traveled to Roatan for a 3 week vacation from winter and stayed in Ocean Reef Villa (2B). First of all, Roatan was a great vacation because we stayed on the beach in West Bay. Most anything we needed was within walking distance. Major grocery shopping must be done in Coxen Hole at Eldons or Plaza Mar There is a small store in the West Bay Mall that is like a deli which you can walk to. Also Woody’s in West End which requires a water or land taxi.
Most of the activities are water based. These are our recommendations: To snorkel off the beach in front of the villa, go down the beach to the right and swim out along the buoy line and cross the boating path. You just need to stop and look for oncoming boats.
To snorkel off a boat go to West Bay Dive shop and inquire about open spaces on a dive boat. If not full of divers they will take you out for $5 a head. It gives you about 45 minutes of time in the water. Divers have priority at all times.
Parasailing, Kayaking, Zip line….been there done that.
Multiple restaurants for 3 meals a day.
Las Roccas (next door) for happy hour 3-6, and the sunset.
The villa has one thing going for it and that is location. Everything in West Bay is within walking distance
Overall the villa was OK but it is a tired place. It serves the need for a place to stay except you get the bonus of the location. Our stay started with water pressure problems. After a couple of days of investigation and work by John the plumbing problem was fixed and pressure was restored for the rest of out stay. The water does have an odor but it is not overbearing. Its well water. DirecTV service is offered. The problem is the reception because they are on the fringe of the reception area. Internet service is not provided. You can get a code from Las Rocas. $20 gets you 2 weeks or 2 gigs, whichever comes first. Reception and connection is spotty at best. This will not be a working vacation or gaming period for the kids. Email, text and news at best. There are plenty of towels. The kitchen is tired but fairly well stocked. The house is stocked well with TP, laundry soap, water and paper towels. The furniture is adequate but tired also. The plunge pool is clean except for the sand you bring in. Great place to lounge. House deck is nice also but there are no patio chairs. Just an uncomfortable nailed down picnic bench. The BBQ is atrocious. The house gets 3 stars and the location gets 5.
We spent a week in the condo and I highly recommend it to you. First of all, the price was extremely reasonable for the Christmas/New Year season. Linda was great to work with and responsive to all of our questions. Jensen picked us up at the airport and stopped while we bought groceries. We spent one full day with Jensen for an island tour and an unforgettable meal at La Sirena. My son finished his certification at Las Rocas and my husband and I did five dives each with this dive shop right next door. The location cannot be beat. The condo is spacious, but I wouldn't recommend that you try to fit 9 people in it. We were a party of six, and the two youngest children slept on the sofa bed in the living room. Some aspects of the condo and the building are weather worn, but everything was clean, cool, and comfortable. Every night we walked to a different restaurant on the main beach. The diving was world class. Alas, we did not win the war against the bugs. The mosquitos and sand flies extracted their pound of flesh. We appreciated the endless supply of water, and loads of towels.
If you are looking for North American luxury with room service and the works, you'll have to go elsewhere and spend three times as much. If you want to sleep right in the middle of the dance floor with DJ throbbing, head to Infinity Bay. However, if you want peace and quiet, unfettered views of the blue green sea from your private patio and your private beach, these villas will be home.
The condo is separated from West Bay proper by the rocking outcrop of Las Rocas dive resort. It has its own a stretch of private beach, with the reef a few hundred yards offshore providing decent snorkeling and calm waters. There's a bit more eel grass here than in the heavily trafficked West Bay, but the solitude was well worth it. Being apart from West Bay was a blessing. Just a few minutes walking brought us right to the action, but we could easily escape the parties and throngs of holiday revelers.
The unit we rented (Bayview 3b) was not super luxurious, but was perfectly comfortable and well appointed. We never once turned on the satellite TV, but it was an option. The kitchen had literally everything one might need (bakeware, fry pans, pots, blender, to-go mugs, coffee maker, lots of filtered potable water, etc). We self-catered nearly every meal, though many restaurants sit within easy walking distance.
Our unit was on the ground floor with 3 steps going down to the beach. We spent nearly all of our waking hours either in the sand and sea, or on the porch. The porch is semi-gated, has a handful of lounge chairs, along with a large glass table and 6 chairs for the table. The porch was very well shaded in the afternoons, and midday, when sun was strong, we simply moved the lounge chairs under the trees (just in front of the condo, in the sand) to get shade.
We highly recommend this condo to any and all travelers. It seemed especially nice for families (we brought our a 9-month old baby and his 75 year old grandma).
This condo was perfect for my family of four, spacious and comfortable. Everyone we worked with was fabulous. Linda took care of all of our arrangements, Jensen got us to and from the airport, Kevin checked in on us regularly and when we had a problem with one of the air conditioners had someone there to fix it within an hour.
The snorkeling just off shore was amazing. It is a little bit of a swim off shore, but the water is very shallow. My 10 year old managed it like a champ. We rented kayaks from Las Rocas for $10 for 4 hours. We also used Las Rocas to arrange zip lining at South Shore, they picked us up and then took us to West End when we were done. We walked to Gumbalimba Park (the tour is nice, don't waste your money on the zip line - go to South Shore). We enjoyed our quiet beach, but when we wanted to check out the excitement, the West Bay Beach was just around the corner. The small pool was perfect for cooling off, the kids loved it.
Thank you Linda for sharing this piece of Paradise with us. This place is located right on the beach with a private deck and a wonderful splash pool. (aka an unheated hot tub) The place is clean and spacious with 2 bathrooms. The outlets are all like we have in America. Bottled water was provided and everything was in working condition. There is a good restaurant called Las Rocas within 100 yds, food was good and Happy Hour starts at 3. Linda arranged for us to be picked up at the airport by Jensen. He drove us around, was always on time and made us feel comfortable. I would not recommend renting a car. His prices were always reasonable. The grounds crew was attentive and friendly.
This vacation home is located ocean front (20 ft from water's edge) in a secluded area of West Bay Beach due to its private road access. Voted one of Earth's 10 most beautiful by National Geographic, West Bay Beach is most affluent destinations on Roatan. The bay is sheltered yet it gets fresh currents from being at the very western end of the island. It is west of West End with a mountain ridge between the two. West End was a busy dive destination while West Bay was only accessible via boat. West Bay's beach is blocked by resorts to vehicle traffic.
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, shelling, wildlife viewing, spa, mini golf
