About Julius

I'm a retired educator and business owner of an outdoor recreational company that exposes our clients to the Natural Wonders of nature through boating, camping, and hiking. In addition, I rent properties in areas so ecologically significant, that government agencies protect the region where they are located. (A nature lovers paradise). I care about the Planet and the living things that inhabit it. I service my clients as they are family, wanting their experiences at our locations to be filled with fond memories, lasting knowledge and an appreciation of the environment and culture that surrounds them.

Julius purchased this house in 2005

Why Julius chose Humacao

To me my property and adjacent surroundings represent the natural tropical beauty of a Caribbean Island, a "Cast-A-Way" beach with 3500 Acres of lagoons and a wildlife habitat as my back yard. NO OTHER PROPERTY IN VILLA PALMIRA HAD THAT.

What makes this house unique

Where else could I kayak through a tropical jungle, from my private backyard or from the beach to great fishing, bird watching, historical sites and an Island filled with monkeys? PBS thought is unique when it was rented for a PBS Nature Series special.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our week in tropical Puerto Rico and would recommend this particular neighborhood for other families interested in a convenient, safe rental. The house is spacious, and our favorite feature is the lovely landscaped backyard replete with hammocks, reclining chairs and a gazebo. Lots of wildlife to enjoy, short walk to the beach and the mysterious lagoon - a very nice vacation spot.

Wonderful Family Escape

  • 5 of 5

We had been to Puerto Rico before, but not to this area. We were enticed by the description of the property that certainly met our needs - three bedrooms, a full kitchen and a close beach. It was exactly as billed and even more! The house had all the amenities we required, was clean and quiet, had a beautiful yard with a nice pool. The beach was just down the road and was to die for!! It was perfect!! Other pluses were very close to shopping and the autopista, a nature park next door, AND your own concierge! We were also fortunate that the owners were at their house next door and became instant friends. They were not intrusive in any way and endeavoured to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We would return in a shot!!

Owner's Response: We describe our property as accurately as possible with comments from reviewers “It was exactly as billed and even more!” and photo’s substantiating a true representation of what the vacationer is getting. Yes, the “Cast A Way”/”Survivor” type beach, with its fine sand and gentle waves “was to die for!! It was perfect!!”, is special to us.. We as owners, by vacationing close by, protect the environment that all our renters expect to experience.

Peaceful Getaway for Nature Lovers

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a week in February with our 2 adult sons and their wives. There was ample space for the 6 of us to enjoy ourselves without feeling crowded. The photos are accurate and all the promised conveniences were there and in working order.

We spent most of the daylight hours outside. The beach was beautiful and virtually deserted, so very private! The water was warm for swimming and when the wind was not too high, good for kayaking. We found sets of wheels in the garage that were easy to attach under the kayaks to make pulling them down the sidewalk to the beach an easy task.

We really wanted to kayak in the nature reserve behind the house, but the water level was too low during our stay. Can't argue with Mother Nature, though.

The nature reserve is so close and so interesting to explore that we packed lunches and spent our first 2 days just poking happily around there. It's SO beautiful!

During the evenings we spent at "home" cooking for ourselves, we ate in the backyard under the little gazebo. The sounds of all the frogs singing at night was quite enchanting. There were virtually no bugs and no neighbours nearby during our stay, so we were free to talk and laugh outside without fear of bothering anyone.

There's a row of little restaurants an easy walk from the house - practically next to the entrance gate and easy to reach through a field. We ate there on our first night, and returned on our last night for beer and karaoke at the little bar. That night there was a huge group of friendly bikers there enjoying their annual get-together. We had great fun and always felt safe.

The only bumps we encountered related to temperature regulation in 2 of the bedrooms, which made sleeping a challenge at times. The other challenge was connecting with Nancy due to our Canadian phone not being reachable from her Puerto Rican phone. I had to route requests through Julian who, in spite of being out of the country throughout our stay, was very prompt in his replies. Nancy came right over to help. Clearly both he and Nancy care very much about guest comfort and satisfaction.

Our car rental agency (Mex) gave away the minivan I had booked (grrr). They substituted a sedan built for 5, so we had to pay an extra $100 each way to hire a taxi (in addition to the rental car) to get us and our luggage to and from the airport. Nancy connected us to Israel, a taxi driver reliable enough to show up at 5:00 in the morning to take us to the airport. Thanks Nancy!

Great PR Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay.

We were in Puerto Rico for a week and really enjoyed coming back to the house everyday. The pool and backyard was amazing. We cooked on the grill almost every day. Booking with Julius was easy and he was very quick to reply to questions.

Nancy (the concierge) was awesome! She answered our questions and had many suggestions. One of the suggestions was the snorkeling/monkey island trip with Paco. We went to monkey island with Paco and had a blast.

The house was great! It had everything. The neighborhood was gated and was very quiet. I felt like we were the only ones there several times. I will and have already recommended this property to friends and family.

Nice overall property

  • 5 of 5

Property Review:

(+) The neighborhood is quiet and safe (its gated), the back yard is kept really nice and it feels like you are in the middle of a jungle, the pool looked like it had algae however its just discoloration of the lining but it was a clean pool, the house was clean and VERY spacious I think it could sleep 10+. Also it looks like you could kayak into the natural preserve but I did not get a chance to do that during my stay so I cannot comment on that. The house is not too far from the major highway and there are some kioskos nearby if you want some good ole boricua food. Overall, its a nice property to bring your family and a good homebase to go do other stuff in the eastern part of the island.

(-) Although the Nancy the concierge was very nice and gracious, the check in process was a little cumbersome for me because we wanted to get that out the way as soon as we go from Vieques and continue our adventure for the day however, the check in time was 4pm + because Nancy also work full time as a teacher and when we arrive there on time, we waited an additional 40+ minutes and soon it began to get dark and thus we dint do the things we were going to do that afternoon. Additionally, there is a beach very close, but unfortunately it was not the nicest beach with some trash washed ashore (not the owners fault of course), its still a beach though and I still enjoyed it and there are other beaches you can go to only a drive away. Review

(-) Beware that homeaway does NOT let you leave a review unless you physically stayed at a property. I got burned by a owner (NOT THIS PROPERTY OWNER) after paying the entire amount, and then told me he is selling the place and did not refund me the entire amount I paid and would not answer my emails. I tried leaving a review and homeaway denied my review because I did not stay in the place. Shame on them.

We have visited Puerto Rico in the past, but stayed in San Juan and the hotels and meals were very similar to the mainland states prices and beaches. We wanted to experience the real Puerto Rico. We took our adult children for a week. No matter where you go you can find English, but….farther out you may have to point to something on the menu.

We found the Tropical Paradise home and decided Humacao (Um a cow). Humacao is a municipality in Puerto Rico located in the eastern coast of the island. We enjoyed the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Oceans all at once.

We really wanted an educational, as well as natural sporting visit. When we landed some of our party were a little green eyed as we navigated signs in Spanish. However, as soon we found our home for the week everyone relaxed in the huge pool, and others went for groceries a few minutes away. Go right and have real PR groceria, go to left and get to Walmart and Franks grocery store. There is enough room and privacy for 10-12 people. There are kayaks for 5.

Directions and a concierge (Nancy) walk you into the safe gated community. Nancy and the owner (Jules) are available every minute you are there. The grill did not work and Jules was there the immediately to switch out. He gave a million tips for the kayakers and lent one of ours his pedal machine he uses to go to the beach. Nancy gave every tip to where to eat and best places and most expensive places to go. Jules was there and was a fantastic resource about the culture and best way to explore the island.

The house is very clean and well stocked. A bit older, but very roomy. Do not bring life jackets, floats, body boards, etc. There are many spices, coffee and filters, TP, PT and you could start a day without shopping.

Walking distance are three bars/restaurants. Food/music/culture is awesome. The beach is your own. The side yard has a canal dock to the major nature reserve. The yard is huge with a gazebo that the party folks spent all night in. Music, pool, etc. Great. Bug spray was helpful but not awful. For kids chasing the native lizards is a blast.

Ocean beach is 3 blocks away, but can drive the 2 blocks with all needs in car. Then 1 block to private beach at water. Backyard has kayak access to reserve. We visited Old San Juan, Aricebo telescope again, El Yunque national forest, snorkeled at Fijardo. Barely could leave.
