Wash it down with fresh squeezed lemonade. Take a carriage ride through the town of Kennebunkport. All within an easy walk from our house.
We really like the dock that is now in place. It really helps in getting the canoe and kayaks in and out of the Kennebunk River. As with prior visits to Maine, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the house's location with its proximity to Kennebunkport. If offers a short walk to the Clam Shack for a lobster roll and the shops to the village. The beach is close by as well.
Having Capt. Hooks for seafood and Big Daddy's for ice cream a short drive away in Wells is another big advantage of staying at your property. Being a golfer, having ready access to great golf courses like Cape Arundel and Webhannet is another great feature.
Needless to say, our Maine vacations have been a wonderful life experience for us, our children and their spouses and especially the grand kids.
Rented two similarly aged, size and priced home in Kennebunkport for a family reunion. Both were large 5-6 bedroom and 250 years old. One was spotlessly cleaned, well equipped and beautifully updated. The owner before, during and after our rental went out of her way to make sure we had all the information needed and that everything was as expected. It was. Unfortunately, that was not this house. This is a beautiful and interesting home which needed a bit more cleaning throughout and has a small and very poorly equipped kitchen.
Just prior to arriving I noticed that in the listing it said linens were not provided. My fault for not catching this earlier. But when I checked, the owner said that in fact I had been charged for linens and they would be provided. Upon arrival we found them in a bag on the front porch and only enough for half of the beds. The person who manages the house was nice and helpful and got the remaining linens delivered, but who wants to arrive and make beds at 7pm. I may be wrong, but I think for the price charged the beds should have been made and the house fully ready.
We did love that there were kayaks and bikes for use. This was a big plus and the house is located in a beautiful and convenient location.
The house is spacious, the yard large and accommodating, and the garage is stocked with bicycles and kayaks ready to tour land and water. The house is perfectly located, within walking distance to many options for dining and shopping, and close enough to walk to the beach (includes parking passes for beach side parking). The house is reminiscent of earlier times but has many modern features including a new kitchen aid refrigerator and a Jacuzzi tub.
The one drawback is that the beds are indeed of earlier times. Many are antiques and designed for shorter statures. If you are a taller person the beds may be a challenge.
This was our 3rd year staying at the property. The facilities were neat and clean. We enjoyed the use of kyacks and bikes. We have recommended the property to friends. If possible we plan to return next summer.
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful, historic home for a week in August. We had plenty of room for everyone, including our 3 little ones. The fenced in yard was wonderful and the kids played outside every day. The guys took out the kayaks and spent a few mornings fishing down by the beach. The house is in such a perfect location. We walked into town every day and you can walk, bike, or drive to the beach. The owner was very prompt with replying to any questions we had during our stay. Everyone in our party loved the trip so much. Thank you!
Amazing home, an American treasure! The house is 250 years old this year, and it's huge, a real rambling mansion meets farmhouse with rooms brimming with great antiques and color. The yard is lovely, we had so many people pausing to photograph the yard and home (as we are hauling in groceries or grilling out lol) because they were so impressed we lived in such a fashion.
Inside its homey, tons of classic books and board games, old prints and tons of soft rugs woven in oriental and American styles of varying ages and all are lovely. One dining room has a large rectangular table that nine or ten can use, and the other dining room has a folding round table that sat six comfortably. Both dining rooms have fireplaces.
No air conditioning is present but none is needed. On the river it was 65-68 and breezy all day inside and cooler at night. This was in August. Lots of kayaks and a canoe available as well as beach chairs galore. Huge back porch with a ton of rocking chairs, great spot to read, sip wine, watch the river, talk to friends and family.
Worth every penny. This house is amazing, and Pete the caretaker is awesome!! Even the cleaning crew was kind.
PS check out Rococo Ice Cream in town, a 10 minute walk. Delish! It became a nightly tradition after dinner. For lunch grab something at the lobster and crab shack on the bridge (7 minutes to walk there). They won best lobster roll in a food network contest.
Had the best vacation. Great location wonderful yard for children great house. Able to walk to town for lunch dinner or just to get coffee in the morning. Beach close by everything here was just perfect. Can't wait to come back to this exceptional place
