Pocasset House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + 2Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Located at the end of a quiet cul de sac, this 4 BR house is right on the lake's edge. The house has a nice size front porch with great views of the lake. It has a private dock that you can swim from. There is even a rope swing into the lake! The clear fresh water lake is great for swimming, fishing or quietly canoeing.

Close to the Bourne Bridge, ocean beaches, bike paths, restaurants and antique shopping.

large comfortable house on a freshwater lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our second stay at this lovely spot on the Cape. This house is large enough (with the deck and multiple bedrooms) to entertain friends and invite family to stay. We loved the lake and rented a paddle board from a local vendor to use on the lake....the house comes with a canoe and a paddle boat that we also used (also bicycles). We discovered a great place to walk the dogs every morning (Monk's woods) with shoreline and wooded trails. We tried out many beaches (there is a laminated guide in the house for nearby beaches) and also traveled to Martha's Vineyard for a day and other beaches in Falmouth. We cooked most of our meals (great seafood vendor south on Rte 28A) in the large kitchen that is well set up and lacks nothing.

Great family memories!

  • 5 of 5

We came from the midwest to meet with our son and family who live in NH. This home on the lake was bright, spacious, peaceful and comfortable. Special memories were made as we enjoyed the lake, paddleboat, canoe and deck. The owner was very easy to work with and we would choose this location again.

beautiful lakefront home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I all had such a great time!! All of the boys spent a lot of time fishing and playing on the cute beach! Sitting on the balcony in the morning enjoying the view and quiet relaxing time!! There are so many other activities to do in the area, I wish we had more time! Would definitely go back again!

A Little Paint Goes a Long Way...

  • 2 of 5

We had a great time on the lake, and enjoyed fishing, swimming, and boating. This was a great spot for the whole family, especially the teens. The inside of the house was spacious and clean. It was very accommodating for a large group, and the teenagers were able to have their own space in the lower level.

However, we were very disappointed with the condition of the outside. We did a drive-by of the property prior to our stay, and noticed that it was unkempt. We conveyed this to the owners, who informed us that they would be doing a clean-up. When we arrived for our stay, nothing had changed. The grass was at least 18 inches tall, there were lots of very tall vines growing through the dock, as well as the stairs to the dock (not just unsightly, unsafe). The driveway, stairs, and deck were covered in sand. The grill, gutters, deck, and underneath the deck where the walkout slider is, were covered in cobwebs, and there was trash all over the yard. The walking path to the beach had not been trimmed in quite some time either, and was not usable. The canoe and pedal boat were filled with water, and the trash and recycle bins were completely full. The stove did not work very well either; the larger burner did not work at all.

Upon arrival, we notified the owners are caretaker of our concerns, and were told that they would try to get someone over to mow the lawn, but no one came. We mowed the grass, trimmed the vines, picked up all of the trash, swept up the sand, and removed all of the cobwebs ourselves.

The owners informed us that they “can’t control cobwebs”, but these cobwebs did not appear in a week or two. It was apparent that a cleanup was not done, as promised. The gutters seemed to have not been cleaned in years, were full of muck, and did not work properly during the heavy rain we had.

We have rented many properties over the years, and have never arrived to full trash cans. The owners always arranged for the trash to be removed before the arrival of the next guest, regardless of the scheduled trash pickup; as it should be.

I regret not having more closely read the online reviews of this property, prior to renting. Scanning through them after our return, I saw that most of these same issues existed at least two years ago. With minimal effort, this place could be a real gem."

Owner's Response: We appreciate feedback from any of our guests and are very sorry our property does not live up to the expectations of some. We also thank the above guest for acknowledging that our home was clean and spacious, with wonderful views of the lake, which is great for fishing and boating. We certainly would like to respond to the outside concerns, however. The vegetation around our property is not a well groomed lawn. What many people love about property, (as you can see from other reviews), is how peaceful, tranquil, and natural the area is. We do address the vegetation throughout the year, and this the first guest for whom it has been such a concern. Regarding the deck and dock, each has been replaced over the past few years and no one has ever described it to us as unsafe. The gutters were cleaned this spring as was the entire exterior of the property. In fact a new roof and gutters were installed two years ago. The house is very popular and we will try to have the outside space addressed more frequently during the busy season. Our best guess is that rain had gotten into the canoe and paddleboat, and it seems reasonable to ask our guests to flip the watercraft over on the deck to correct that problem. We have a very reliable cleaner, who sweeps the deck and cleans the grill between guests, and she acknowledged that it was done before this guests arrival. We did not mean to sound flippant with our response about outdoor cobwebs, but they are difficult to control in an outdoor setting. In fairness, trash has been a recent concern, and we have found out that our neighbors have been adding to our trash burden. We believe we have that corrected. Trash and recyclables are removed every week, on Tuesday. Upon hearing of this guests concerns, we immediately called back and left a voicemail, stating that if they wanted us to have someone come and mow, clean, etc.. to let us know. (We are respectful that some guests don't want to be bothered or interrupted). They never returned our call. We are grateful that they did address some the issues that had concerned them, and have thanked them for those efforts. In closing we would like to share an email we received from the guests staying in that same property the week before the above guests: " My family and I enjoyed your vacation home! It perfectly suited our needs and it was a very relaxing stay....We would recommend your home for any family looking for a few quiet days in a picturesque location".

The mornings & evenings on the lake are more beautiful than photos. It's a great place if you just want to relax and do nothing, or for those who want to venture out to explore new places within a short drive, there are places to go. We recently spent a week there, had family coming in from Hawaii to attend a wedding in NYC. It was convenient, flying into Boston airport (just hour & few min away), others driving from NH, DE & MD. It was a last minute plan, however worked out really well for all. We were fortunate the dates we needed were available. The canoe and pedal boat on the lake was great for all ages. Bikes, life jackets, beach chairs, sand buckets and toys, etc. were there as well. A hidden treasure, was the beautiful little beach on the lake, only steps away through little path to left of property. The Jacuzzi on the deck was a welcome relaxation at the end of a busy day and gas grill for cooking outdoors. There are 2 fireplaces in the home, which imagine would be cozy during the late fall and winter months. If you are planning to do a lot of biking, recommend you have vehicle with bike rack. The immediate roads near house do not have shoulders on road for biking or walking, not the safest. However, there is a wonderful walking, and bike trail at the Cape Canal (6.5 miles on one side and 7 miles on other), which is only 10 minute drive from the house as need to transport the bikes. You will see locals transporting their bikes as well. Local fish market has great lobster & seafood, if prefer cooking at home.

Martha's Vineyard is only short drive to a ferry and worth the trip if have not been. If your plan is to attend events and sightseeing, would recommend check online "events calendars" in the area. Boston is a great city to visit as well, lots of history and good seafood - Quincy market has plenty lobster and chowder.

I have not stayed in a hotel for a vacation since 2008. Discovered the only way to vacation is staying in a vacation rental, especially if more than 2 people traveling. It's much more like being at home, yet enjoying all the amenities without the outrageous hotel prices, fees & taxes. This home on "Picture Lake" is a great getaway for families with children or just adults.

The owner, Ellen was very helpful and accommodating. Our family is grateful we had the opportunity to create some wonderful memories we will cherish forever ! Thank you Ellen for sharing your "Home Away From Home" with us.
